Chapter 4 Get Pregnant While On Her Period

Marian found herself baffled by Rogelio's sudden presence.

He donned a silver-gray suit, exuding an air of chilly nobility, his gaze locked onto Lorna with an icy resolve.

"Rogelio..." Lorna stumbled over her words as she faced Rogelio's piercing gaze. Fear gripped her, causing her to stammer, "I didn't... I didn't mean to..."

Lorna struggled to comprehend Rogelio's intervention on Marian's behalf.

After all, Marian had been regarded as a pariah due to Neal's demise. The Bailey and Chapman families were fully aware of Marian's role in the tragedy. Lorna's parents had eagerly consented to the marriage proposal, fearing repercussions for the Chapman family.

As a result, Lorna capitalized on this knowledge, tormenting and belittling Marian without restraint just now.

Yet, the unfolding scene defied her expectations entirely.

Matteo chimed in, offering a pointed reminder to Lorna, "Miss Chapman, Mr. Bailey despises deceit above all else."

Having witnessed Lorna's push, Matteo was taken aback by her refusal to admit her actions.

A strained smile crossed Lorna's face as she attempted to salvage the situation. "Honestly, I was just teasing Marian! We often play around and argue like this. I'd never hurt my sister."

Rogelio deemed Lorna's excuse too feeble to merit a response.

His attention shifted to the woman cradled in his arms. With genuine concern, he inquired, "Are you hurt?"

The complexity of Rogelio's emotions intrigued Marian. Could he truly care for her well-being?

Really? Such a consideration was foreign to her, given their history.

Struggling to conceal her astonishment, Marian gently shook her head and responded, "I'm fine. Thank you."

Rogelio's lips curled into a chilling smile as he remarked, "That's good. Otherwise, your sister might have lost her precious hands." His words carried an implicit threat.

Marian remained silent as she knew she couldn't stop Rogelio from doing what he wanted.

At Rogelio's words, Lorna's face turned pale, and she swiftly tucked her hands behind her back.

After all, she feared that her hands might... end up being severed by Rogelio!

"I am leaving now," said Lorna. "I don't want to be late for my classes..."

Flustered, she stumbled within just two steps, falling to the ground. Swiftly recovering, she stood up and moved to leave, resembling a clown in her haste.

"Wait!" Rogelio's voice suddenly halted her. "Were you at the bar on my wedding night?"

"Yes, yes..."

Having spoken, Lorna promptly departed.

Rogelio contemplated whether the woman who had an affair with him was Lorna, his brows furrowed.

"Matteo."

"Yes, Mr. Bailey."

"Look into it," Rogelio commanded. "Quickly."

Matteo nodded in acknowledgement, replying, "Certainly."

Listening to their exchange, Marian felt perplexed.

What did Rogelio mean? What did Matteo agree to do?

What were they planning to investigate?

However, she lacked the authority to inquire further. Stepping out of Rogelio's embrace, she distanced herself from him without a word.

Observing her actions, Rogelio remarked, "Impressive."

"Why would you help me?" she cast her gaze downward and softly inquired.

"You are my plaything. I won't allow anyone else to mistreat you," Rogelio declared. Lifting her chin, he asserted, "Marian, even though I hate you, only I can make you suffer. No one else has the privilege to harm you!"

He compelled her to meet his gaze.

The depth of his eyes was impenetrable.

"How have you been during your time at the hospital over the past few weeks?" Rogelio inquired.

Taken aback, she asked, "You aware of that?"

"There's nothing I'm unaware of."

No, Rogelio didn't know that she was innocent of Neal's death.

The circumstances surrounding the car accident were perplexing, and the driver's statements were nonsensical.

However, Marian lacked evidence.

Yet, that didn't deter her. She was determined to vindicate herself one day.

"I was coerced," Marian said. "The ward is under constant surveillance. I'm unable to leave."

"Don't even entertain the thought. You won't bear my child even though my mother supports you!" Rogelio grasped her chin, adding, "Abandon the idea!"

Marian felt a sense of relief hearing his words.

It appeared that he was discreetly opposed to Kyra's plan.

Pregnancy wouldn't be immediate.

That suited her; she had no desire to carry Rogelio's child.

"Understood." She acquiesced softly. "When will you divorce me?"

Rogelio's expression darkened. He retorted, "What are you talking about?"

Despite her fear, Marian mustered her courage and reiterated, "Divorce. I can't remain your wife forever. I won't bear your children. If you find a woman you truly love, do you want her to be a mere mistress and your children considered illegitimate?"

A heavy silence ensued.

An oppressive stillness hung in the air.

After a brief pause, Rogelio's words trickled out. "Yes, you've given me a reminder."

A spark of hope ignited within her!

There still existed a chance to escape from the clutches of the devilish Rogelio!

But... the hope was shattered the next second.

Rogelio's voice resumed. "When the time comes, I will divorce you. And then, I will arrange for a wedding for you and my brother in hell!"

His statement hung in the air, leaving Marian in a daze as she fixed her gaze on Rogelio's retreating figure.

They shared a blood connection, these two brothers. While Neal bore cognitive impairments, he radiated warmth and kindness, always willing to assist others. On the contrary, Rogelio exuded an air of cold detachment.

Passing students exchanged words as they walked by, their topic loud enough for Marian to overhear.

"Have you heard? Mr. Bailey generously donated a teaching facility and a library to our Elite University."

"The man is loaded!"

"Handsome, wealthy, and newly married. Who's the lucky lady who snagged Mr. Bailey?"

Marian's lips twitched.

Lucky was not a word she would associate with her situation.

A twinge of discomfort pricked at her lower abdomen, as if her period was imminent. She hurried to the bathroom, spotting a vivid red hue upon inspection.

Indeed, her period had begun.

A small semblance of relief washed over her, prompting her to use a tampon.

The onset of her menstrual cycle signified one thing-she wasn't pregnant.

Time flew by swiftly.

During the daytime, Marian attended classes, while in the evenings, she returned to the Bailey family's residence. She made a concerted effort to avoid interacting with Rogelio.

Fortunately, Rogelio remained occupied, spending the majority of his time engrossed in his work. This left him with no opportunity to cause her any trouble.

When the weekend arrived, Marian made a trip to the hospital.

She was experiencing some health concerns.

Seated in the doctor's office, Marian described her symptoms. "Doctor, my menstrual cycle has become irregular. Last month, my period arrived, but it was very light, and it ended after just two or three days. Unexpectedly, I began menstruating again ten days later, exhibiting the same symptoms as before."

"Has this happened previously?"

"No."

"Are you currently taking any medications?"

Upon hearing this question, Marian shook her head once more.

The doctor inquired, "Are you married?"

"Well..." After contemplating for a moment, she continued, "Yes, but we have not been sexually active."

The doctor handed her several forms for examinations and stated, "Let's conduct a comprehensive assessment first to determine the underlying issue."

"Alright."

Following the thorough examination, Marian returned to the doctor's office with the test results in hand.

The doctor regarded her with a peculiar expression, casting several glances in her direction.

Nervously, Marian began, "Doctor, is...is there a possibility of an incurable ailment?"

"Ahem... You mentioned earlier that you and your husband have not been sexually active, correct?"

"Yes."

"But you are, in fact, pregnant." The doctor revealed the result.

Pregnant?

Marian was taken aback, struggling to believe what she had just heard!

It seemed implausible!

With Rogelio's covert efforts, Kyra had failed to get her from becoming pregnant.

As for the night with Rogelio at the hotel...

Perhaps that was when she had become pregnant, but she had already experienced her period afterward!

"Doctor, could there be a mistake?" she inquired. "How is it possible for me to conceive while I still experience menstruating?"
