Chapter 6 Contract Signing

He waited for her answer, but it took her a decade to decide.

"No d–" she paused.

"Pardon? Make it clear enough for the two of us, Dianna." He replied and his eyes stared at her chest.

She felt electrified by his sticky, meaningful stare. Dianna smiled and grabbed his collar closer to her. "I... I wanted to taste your lips again, Doc. I've missed the taste of it,"

Wild and crazy, she came up with a naughty plan.

"I missed you, Klaud," Dianna whispered and tried to provoke him. She threw her bag away, touched his chest, and kissed him passionately.

She wasn't certain of her actions until he pushed her away and said, "What are you doing?!" said Klaud and narrowed his eyes on her.

He wanted more, but he respected Dianna despite the things that happened between them.

"Don't act you loathe to be kissed by a sassy woman, Doc." It was the real Dianna who spoke. She was literally a sassy, crazy woman years ago but suddenly things became different.

Without a word, Klaud Anderson held her hand and kissed the back of it.

Dianna hissed. She thought he would continue, but he turned around and walked back to his table.

"I don't want to take you for granted, Miss Sy. You are here for an offer but still, the final decision is in your hands."

"Please take a seat. I can't speak to a woman who stood from distance." He pleaded shortly.

Fortunately, she agreed and seated down before him. Dianna peeked around and was mesmerized by his office.

It was quite huge and decorated perfectly. There were flowing plants inside, robots, and expensive figurines.

"If I'll take your offer, what would be my job?" She asked, crossed her arms, leaned back, and put her legs on the table.

"Your legs, woman!" He told her but Dianna smiled and closed her eyes. "I can still see you, don't you dare lay your hands on me!"

Klaud Anderson breathed heavily. He has been waiting to see her again, and now that she was in his office, he couldn't bear to lose a track of her.

"Be my assistant,"

"How much per month?"

He opened the drawer on the left side of the table and took an envelope inside.

He gulped, "Here,"

Dianna opened her eyes and grabbed the contract from his grip. But she needed an eyeglass to read it correctly.

Klaud silently watched over her. He never thought of such a thing, but it was the truth.

She opened her bag and searched for her eyeglasses but she forgot to bring them with her.

Dianna slapped her forehead. She peeked around the table and took a pen without a word.

"Where do I need to put my signature?"

"Aren't you going to read the contract first?" He paused. "It perhaps stated few things which you object."

There was a touch of sarcasm and truth in the sentence he stated. But, he wanted her to sign the contract without an objection to the rules and effectiveness.

Dianna put the pen inside of her bag and stood up. She then mumbled, "Thank you for saving my sister's life. You are right, I have still to pay my debts by any means."

Finally, she thanked him. It wasn't enough but Dianna looked at his eyes and smiled over her shoulders.

Klaud Anderson gulped and watched her back. Until he remembered something important, "Wait,"

"What?" Dianna raised her eyebrows.

He rubbed the back of his head, "You forgot my pen." He murmured and forced himself not to burst into laughter.

-

The night has come. Thousands of stars sparkled and shone in darkness which covered the sky.

"Aren't you excited about going back home?" Dianna asked her little sister who looked at the hospital bed. "Hey, why don't you look at me and answer my question?"

Dianna stood up from her seat and worried about her sister's behavior. If an emergency didn't happen earlier, she should have been discharged from the hospital.

"I... I am sorry for what happened, Dianna. I... I wanted to go home today but I felt too dizzy and weak!"

"Shh, you don't have to say sorry just because you vomited blood! I am your big sister, and it hurts to see you in that situation!"

Tears shone on Dianne's eyes, but she quickly wiped them away. Without a word, she hugged her sassy sister tightly enough to choke her to death.

Dianna coughed which urged the little girl to loosen up the grip. She gave her a short smile and said, "I thought I can visit mom in the cemetery today! Huh, how I wish she's still alive."

Dianna felt the longing for a mother's love and presence. She wished she could turn back the time and bring her mom to life again.

But she knew, it was impossible to happen. No one has ever the possession to do such an unthinkable thing.

She then gasped, turned around on her, and watched over the window. "The owner of the mall pulled out their franchise. They called me earlier that they had chosen already my greatest competitor."

It was a devastating truth, but she remained calm and happy. Dianna knew there has a lot of opportunities waiting for her.

Dianne slowly wore the slippers on the floor. She took few steps and stopped right beside her big sister. She felt dismayed by the sudden bad news, but she had to accept the truth as Dianna did.

"Don't worry, I have still something left in me that will help us live."

"The store? Does it still make a lot of money?" Dianne asked her if the store had been selling well these past few months.

But Dianna never wanted to worry her sister. Despite the ugly truth, she looked at her weary eyes and nodded. "Y–yes, of course! The story is doing pretty well despite the accident. So, don't worry about money, do you understand?"

She faced her, caressed Dianne's hair, and smiled. She knew the business she built has started to plunge. The sales declined, few of the workers had resigned and few of the ingredients she stored has expired.

Almost half of the fund had gone to waste. And now, she has only two workers who stayed loyal to Dianna while the others shifted, resigned, and applied to big bakeries in the country.

"Everything will gonna be fine. We will rise again, and I am going to bring the competitors down like what they did to me." She whispered.

Dianna remembered the article that had been circulated in social media sites and magazines. Her store was featured, not to help with the sales but to bring her name in vain.

Negative and almost personal information was stated. Even her mother's death was included, and it was the reason why she sold herself to the richest CEO.

She was humiliated but she remained silent and ignore all the lies on the internet.

"What is that?" Out of nowhere, Dianne noticed the papers on the side table, beside Dianna's bag. She was about to walk closer to it when Dianna ran and took the papers with her.

She put it on her back and tilted her head in disbelief. "It's no–nothing! I... I was about to throw these scratch papers earlier! But you didn't answer and so I forgot to throw it!"

"And why are you sweating that way? Are you hiding something from me, aren't you?"

Dianne raised her eyebrows and crossed her arms like she was older than Dianna. "Did you accept his offer?"

Out of blue, Dianne remembered the doctor who had saved her life. Too late to realize, her sister widened her eyes and stuck with her position.

"He's handsome, rich, and popular. Don't you like him? Even his eyes?"

"And why are you asking me about that man?! He's not my type but I want to play with him, Dianne. What do you think, huh?"

Dianna winked at her sister who laid down in bed. "I will play a game with him, just a game." She explained but Dianne leaned against the wall and glared at Dianna angrily.

Dianne knew the reasons behind her sister's single years. More than five men courted her but she rejected all of them in a week.

"Huh, I don't know how to make you fall in love with a man anymore. I know you are a human being, but I don't understand why you hated men so much!"

"Because our father left us! You never felt what I had felt since we were younger! He left us for his selfish ambitions that is why I don't trust any man, even the richest CEO in this country!"

Dianna had finally confessed why she became one of those girls who haven't any boyfriends since the day they were born.

She was traumatized by the reality, but she knew not all men are the same. "Don't play with someone's heart if you don't want to be hurt in the end, Dianna."

"I never asked your opinion, little girl. Huh, why I am even threatened by being brokenhearted? It's a normal thing when you're in love but I will never be glad if someone broke my heart... again."

Dianna looked in Dianne's way, but she was startled upon seeing her sleeping and snoring.

She shook her in disbelief and put the blanket on her chest. "Sleep well, Dianne. And don't you worry, I will make you proud and you will be enrolled at your dream school."

Gently, she caressed her hair and looked at the transparent window until her phone vibrated.

It was on the side table. Dianna narrowed her eyes as no one ever knew her number. She then took it out and there were twenty messages on the screen.

Her hands trembled when she opened the messages. She gasped, "I will send someone to look after your sister. I'm at the hospital's parking lot, waiting for you."

Dianna touched her heart. Her pulse had stopped pounding and her entire system reacted strangely.

"What is this? My heart... my heart skipped a bit because of his messages." Dianna mumbled and stared at her cellphone screen for a couple of minutes.

What will happen next? Will Dianna go to the said place to meet the man who wants to see her, or she will choose to stay beside her sister?
