Chapter 7 Could A disabled Man Have Impregnated His Mom

Lyle quickly sent Novalee the details about Tyson, revealing that Tyson was merely Rowley's driver.

A driver?

Novalee's anger surged. Carola had suffered a heart attack and been left alone in the parking lot. Thankfully, someone had taken her to the hospital, but Rowley and Pattie had not come to collect her themselves. If they were truly occupied, sending a servant or an assistant to fetch Carola would be forgivable. But they had sent merely a driver.

Novalee's hands quaked faintly. She understood now. Carola wasn't their own flesh and blood, so why would they truly worry about her?

She was only a pawn for them. Once Novalee was out of the picture, Rowley must have planned to use Carola to sway the Shaw Group's senior shareholders, given Carola was the only Shaw family heir.

However, after Rowley took full control of the Shaw Group, Carola became useless.

He merely ignored her existence.

But Carola was human, alive and breathing!

Rowley Mitchell, Pattie Webb!

Novalee clenched her teeth. She vowed to reclaim everything they had robbed from her, one thing at a time, starting with her daughter!

Then, her phone rang. Lyle was calling.

She answered, and Lyle queried anxiously, "Mommy, did you find her? Is she my elder sister? I'm at the hospital. Alice's parking. I'll come to you soon."

Novalee's eyes fell, her voice filled with despair. "She's been discharged already."

"Discharged?" Lyle's shock was palpable. "But she just had a heart attack! Heart disease is serious, isn't it? It's only been a day. How could they release her so soon?"

Lyle's words broke off as he noticed someone passing him. He stared at her retreating figure. Pattie?

What was she doing here?

"Mommy, I have to go. I'll be right there," Lyle said hastily before ending the call, then tailed Pattie into the hospital.

With an idea forming, Lyle took a small bug from his bag and jogged a few steps before feigning a collision with Pattie.

"Hey! Watch where you're going!"

Pattie's brows furrowed as she scrutinized Lyle. She hadn't removed her sunglasses after entering the hospital, hinting at her desire to remain inconspicuous and avoid being recognized by anyone.

Lyle swiftly put the bug into Pattie's coat pocket, apologizing, "I'm sorry, ma'am."

Pattie scoffed, "Are you blind? Where are your parents?"

Lyle cheekily stuck out his tongue and darted off.

"What a rude child!" Pattie seethed, forcing herself to calm down as she recalled her reason for being there.

Meanwhile, Lyle rushed to the staircase, pulled out his computer, connected it to the bug in Pattie's pocket, and donned a Bluetooth headset.

He heard Pattie's voice inquire, "What do these test results mean?"

Another voice replied, "Based on the results, your HCG is 61. You're pregnant. It's in the early stage, so you won't see the embryo on a B-ultrasound yet. Come back in about sixty days for a color ultrasound."

Lyle's eyes narrowed.

Pregnant?

Who?

Pattie?

He listened as Pattie's voice rang out again from his earphone. "If I want to find out who the child's father is now, is there a way to do that?"

The child's father?

Pattie was pregnant but didn't know who the father was?

Thrilling!

As Lyle's thoughts raced, his phone rang once more.

Glancing at his phone, he saw it was from his mommy.

Lyle's eyes widened, as he exclaimed, "Damn it!"

In his pursuit of Pattie, he'd completely forgotten that his mother was expecting him.

Grabbing the phone, he hastily reassured, "Mommy, I'm on my way. You wouldn't believe who I ran into, and that's what held me up. Can't wait to tell you about it. Hang tight, I'll be there soon!"

He dashed out of the staircase, only to collide with someone.

"I'm sorry." The individual he had bumped into was seated in a wheelchair. Lyle quickly righted the chair, then looked at the man's face.

In the blink of an eye, both of them stood frozen in surprise.

Lyle's gaze expanded in disbelief. Could this man be Millard Patel, one of the people he was suspecting to be his father?

He knew Millard's face from a hacked photo, so he couldn't be mistaken.

What he hadn't expected was that Millard was physically disabled.

His gaze shifted to Millard's lifeless legs.

Could a disabled man have impregnated his mom?

Perhaps not.

His mother had been entirely unaware that night, after all. If the man was disabled, how could he make Mommy pregnant?

Millard seemed an unlikely candidate now.

Oblivious to Lyle's inner thoughts, Millard was staring at Lyle's face, finding it strangely familiar.

Millard pursed his lips. He was convinced he had encountered this face somewhere in the past.

Where had he seen it before?

"Sir, are you all right? I was in such a rush to find my mother, I didn't see you coming."

"I'm fine," Millard answered, his face expressionless.

"Alright, I must go," Lyle said, spotting some men approaching and guessing they were Millard's bodyguards. He felt a slight sense of relief and walked away swiftly.

While walking, Lyle instinctively reached up to touch his ear, only to realize his Bluetooth headset was missing.

Where could it be?

Perhaps it had fallen when he collided with Millard earlier.

In a panic, Lyle retraced his steps, but Millard was already gone.

Upon finally encountering Lyle, Novalee expressed her worry. "Where have you been? I was terrified!"

Swiftly shifting topics, Lyle said, "Mommy, guess who I ran into."

He didn't wait for a reply, eagerly revealing, "I saw Pattie. It was odd seeing her with sunglasses, sneaking into the hospital. I decided to follow her and slip a bug into her pocket. Mommy, do you want to know what I overheard?"

Astonished, Novalee inquired, "What did you find out?"

"Pattie's expecting a baby! Furthermore, she's clueless about the father's identity. She even asked the doctor if they could immediately determine who it is."

Novalee, taken aback, questioned, "Is that true?"

"Certainly! I heard it with my own ears. If you doubt me, I can show you Pattie's inquiry record later. We've got something on her now. With this secret in our hands, we can consider how to leverage it."
