Chapter 6

THREE MONTHS AGO

"What are we doing here?" Emma asked Godson with a frown.

She had woken up tired that morning feeling tired but she knew she had to show up at work but then, Godson showed up in front of her apartment with the excuse that their grandfather wanted to talk with both of them. It wasn't really surprising to Emma. Sometimes when their grandfather summoned both of them, Godson stopped by to take her to the meeting place which was usually his home or office so Emma went with him.

She thought that their grandfather wanted to talk to her regarding the engagement which she refused to go ahead with but it seems Godson had other plans. The vehicle they were in, stopped in front of a hospital.

"Take a look, Emma. Do you recognise this place?" He asked her.

"It's a hospital and it's obviously on the way to grandfather's office so yeah, I do." She replied to him.

Godson tsked.

"Look closely. I'm sure you stopped by this place some days ago." He said to her with a raised eyebrow.

Emma frowned. What was he getting at?

"I don't know what this is about, Godson but as you said, Grandfather summoned us and we both know he doesn't like to be kept waiting." She said to him,

"Just stop with the crap, Emma. Why were you at this hospital?" Godson asked her.

"I don't know what you are talking about." She told him.

Godson released a chuckle and opened up the pad he was holding. Emma kept quiet, observing him. She was feeling nervous. How did Godson know she had gone to the hospital? That was the only thought in her mind. She could hardly think of any way he would have found out and he was never interested in her movements so why? At least, he doesn't seem to know what went on in the hospital. If he did, then he wasn't showing it and besides, why would he ask her those questions if he knew what she had gone to do in the hospital? He gave her the pad when it seemed he was done with whatever he was doing with it.

"Why are you giving me this?" She asked him.

"It might be important. Take it." He said to her,

She reluctantly took the pad from him and frowned when she saw the picture on the screen. It was a vehicle and she had no idea what brand it was.

"Um, what do you expect me to do with this?" Emma asked him.

"Oh, scroll to the left. That's not for you." He said to her with a chuckle.

Emma released a frustrated sigh and did as she was told. She froze when she saw the next picture but Godson laughed. He enjoyed seeing that look on her face.

"How did you get this?" She asked him.

"Oh come on. Don't act so surprised. I told you I have eyes everywhere. Now, are you willing to tell me what it is you went to do at the hospital or do I have to tell you what it is?" He asked her.

Emma looked at him with eyes filled with hatred. Godson smiles and holds her chin between his fingers.

"Do I have to repeat myself?" He asked her.

"Fuck off. I have nothing to say to you." She told him.

He released her and relaxed back on the car seat.

"Now that's just wrong. I asked politely." He said to her with a relaxed smile.

"What do you want?" She asked him.

The picture Godson had shown her was one of her and Lydia at the entrance of the hospital. If it happened to be someone else, then maybe Emma wouldn't be this worked up. But she knew her cousin and she knew Godson already knew the reason why she was at the hospital.

"Now, I want you to tell me why you were at the hospital yourself but it seems there will be no cooperation from you. I heard you met with Grandfather regarding the engagement?" He asked her.

Emma only gave him a nod as she stared at him with hatred.

"Don't look at me that way. I'm trying to help you also. Besides, how do you think grandfather would react when he finds out that you are carrying his enemy's child? You know how much he detests the silver clan." Godson said to her with a smile.

"I don't see how this concerns you." She said to him,

"Oh, but it does. Grandfather can not find out about you having that child."

"I'm not getting rid of it," Emma said as she placed a protective arm around her stomach.

Godson observed the look with disgust but he said nothing about it.

"I'm not saying you should get rid of it. Let's make a deal, I will protect you, your child, your mother and also your secret but you must get married to Hugo." Godson said to her.

"What is it to you? Why would you go so far as to do this?" Emma asked him.

"I made a deal with my grandfather. You have to get married to Hugo. You know how grandfather hates disappointments, right?" He asked her.

"What makes you think I'll cope with you? I can decide to tell the father of the baby." She told him with a smirk.

Godson smiled. He knew very well that she was just putting up a facade. He had her where he wanted her to be. Just a little push and she would give up. He understood her so well and she had no idea.

"You want me to spell it out for you?" He asked her with a raised eyebrow.

Emma kept quiet, her hand still placed protectively on her abdomen.

"Alright then. First, you can't run to Godson because he doesn't even like you. Do you think anyone from the Silver family would accept a baby from Templeton? Not possible and there is no way you would meet up with him because if you do, your mother dies. Do not forget that grandfather is paying for all her treatments as long as you remain part of the family. If you decide to leave, I don't know what he is going to do to you." He told her with a shrug of his shoulders as he dusted the non-existent dust from his suit.

Tears pooled in Emma's eyes but she refused to let them fall and make her cousin see how just those little words he said had affected her. It hurt her more that everything he said was true. If she decided to go to Brandon, she wasn't so sure he would accept. Brandon may look kind on the outside but he was extremely ruthless and hardly forgave anyone. And even if she left, what about her mother? The money she had was not enough to continue the life support for her mother. Even working for one of the biggest companies in the country could not give her a salary that would continue her mother's expensive life support for years until she got a better job and that was if her grandfather would let her walk away just like that. He would disown her and perhaps even kill her mother by stopping the life support. No matter how hard she thought of it, there was only one answer.

"I'll do the marriage." She said to Godson through gritted teeth.

"Aww, it's so nice to work with you, cousin. I knew there was no way you could leave your mother just like that. But, first, we have to tell Hugo about the baby." He said to her,

"What? Why?" She asked in surprise.

"You plan to keep the child. He needs to at least know that you are pregnant for some other man before going into the marriage." He said to her,
