Chapter 5 Tang Mingze

"My mother was asking about you," Tang Mingze pointed out.

Wu Jiayi didn't want to see him. In fact, he was the last person on this planet who she wanted to see.

"I don't know, you are quite the expert at making up scenarios. Just tell her I fell in a ditch and died like your ex did." Wu Jiayi gritted her teeth. She hated him; he didn't do anything bad to her except emotionally abuse her, and she held a grudge against him.

Tang Mingze was astonished to hear something like this from Wu Jiayi. Did she know? Even if she did, it didn't matter, it was all in the past. He only wanted to ask her why she chose to appear in his life again.

"Why are you here?" he forced her to make eye contact with her.

"..."

Wu Jiayi didn't understand why he was so angry at her. He was the one who did her wrong, yet he is acting like the victim. Overwhelmed by his dominating presence, she tried to push him away, but to no avail.

She was trapped between him and the wall.

"I don't want to associate with you, and I didn't know you would be here. If I knew..." Wu Jiayi paused. Tears welled up in her eyes, it was all coming back.

Memories that she did not want to remember. Small gestures that she mistook for love. It was all a game.

She was the game. But not anymore, she was determined to get rid of him. The more she thought, the more her vision blurred.

Wu Jiayi's teary eyes felt like a stab in Tang Mingze's heart. He couldn't question her. In a fit of rage, he punched the wall right beside her face. Her eyes, which followed his movements, froze up at the moment. Only Wu Jiayi knew how much he wished she was that poor wall.

She wasn't going to bear his tyranny anymore. Holding back her tears, she placed both her hands lightly on his chest.

"You know what?" she gazed lovingly at him. This time, it was Tang Mingze who couldn't say a single thing. Wu Jiayi felt his body tense up.

"I'm not going to let you do whatever you want," she slowly said. Her fingers crept up to the collar of his shirt. The feeling of Wu Jiayi's fingers caused him to relax. The moment he let down his guard, Wu Jiayi pushed him away and ran for her dear life.

On her way back to the hall, Wu Jiayi met Liu Wen, who came out to look for her.

"The emcee is here; the party is about to start. Come fast, you have to meet my wife too," he expressed, and brought her inside. Wu Jiayi really wanted to cry after being taken care of by him.

Old Liu had kept a close eye on Wu Jiayi ever since she had arrived at the party. He wasn't aware of the estranged relationship between Wu Jiaiyi and her father. If he had known, he would never have invited the Wu family in the first place. During Wu Jiayi's absence, he talked to Wu Bolin privately and told him to stop talking about business on happy occasions.

Liu Wen's wife had heard all about his adventures with Wu Jiayi and was impatient about their meeting.

"You must be Wu Jaiyi," Madam Liu said as she affectionately held her hands.

"I've heard so much about you. I also love extreme sports and adventures. Racing, hiking, bungee jumping, you name it", she excitedly chatted with Wu Jiayi.

"Maybe that's the reason for your youthful appearance," Wu Jiayi honestly answered.

It was the first time Wu Jiayi had seen a lady in her forties looking like someone in their early thirties. They say that people who exercise regularly stop ageing after a certain age. Contrary to Wu Jiayi's expectations, Madam Liu was a very fun-loving and kind person. They even planned a hiking trip together.

Liu Wen had watched Wu Jiayi grow up. His lips curled in a fatherly smile as he watched his wife and Wu Jiayi get along. As a man with only sons, he was very glad to have Wu Jiayi as his future goddaughter.

Before Liu Wen could pop the question, the emcee appeared on stage and asked them to pay attention.

"Due to some technical difficulties, we had to delay the event. So without further ado, let's throw a big round of applause for the main attraction, the groom-," The emcee stopped abruptly.

He reread the entire script again to make sure he read the name correctly. The crowd watched the emcee intently, expecting the announcement to continue.

"You have the correct script, continue," Liu Jingfei, who was standing amongst the people, shouted at him. Everyone was surprised to see the groom in the crowd, including Tang Mingze, who was watching from upstairs. For some reason, he had a bad feeling about this entire fiasco.

The Liu family was also surprised by their son's actions.

"Sorry about the abrupt pause," the emcee continued.

"Let's welcome the groom, Tang Mingze, with applause."

An awkward silence fell. The hands that were previously ready to throw an applause were paused in midair.

Tang Mingze was exasperated. He desperately wished that this was a horrible prank. The emcee, who had expected this reaction, decided to continue the festivities.

Right at that moment, Tang Mingze and Wu Jiayi's phones vibrated.

"Aren't you mad at your wife for signing the divorce papers?" the message sent to Tang Mingze's phone read. This idiot! He should've kept his nosey arse busy somewhere else. Liu Jingfei had single handedly changed the entire course of the event, shifting the limelight to Tang Mingze.

Liu Jingfei used such a bold tactic because he knew Tang Mingze would give face to the Liu family. As long as he cooperated with him, Liu Jingfei was willing to face all kinds of punishment.

Begrudgingly, Tang Mingze stepped downstairs like a heavenly being. Dressed in a navy-blue bespoke suit that highlighted his perfectly shaped body, he captured the hearts of all the young ladies present.

All the single ladies present knew that this event was not following the rules. Everyone hoped that the next name the emcee announced would be theirs.

After all, it was Tang Mingze, the dream man of every woman in J city.

Liu Wen excused himself and went to search for his son. On the other hand, the Fu family had fallen into utter chaos. They were sure that something bad had happened, and they were going to get to the bottom of it.
