Chapter 6 Unexpected Defense

Everyone froze and looked in the direction that the voice came.

Theodore appeared at the door in a wheelchair. He had on clean and comfortable casual clothes, and a soft blanket was draped over his thighs. His fingers were intertwined and his shoulders held up high, making him look like a king who was sitting on a mobile throne.

Behind Theodore stood two men, one of whom was the affable and bespectacled man that Ariana bumped into yesterday. The other one was clad in a three-piece suit and had a briefcase in his hand. He had a serious look on his face and an air of justice around him.

Theodore's eyes narrowed to slits as he looked at the people in front of him. Despite being in a wheelchair, he was still condescending to those that were standing in the living room.

Finally, he shot lasers at Brielle. "I wonder what my wife did to you that warrants you to pull her hair!"

Brielle, who was like a raging bull a moment ago, became as gentle as a sheep. She loosened her grip on Ariana's hair, got up, and hid behind Jasper to avoid the horrible gaze that was set on her.

Jasper looked very grave.

He and his brother never got along well, so they seldom met. It took him by surprise that Theodore suddenly appeared here and was taking Ariana's side now.

Meanwhile, Ariana painstakingly got up. She looked at Theodore in shock. "Why are you here?"

Theodore held her gaze for a long second. A bright smile curved his thin lips before he said dotingly, "Honey, are you still mad at me?"

Huh? What was going on? Why did he just call her honey? And why was he smiling like that? Was she seeing things? Ariana was confused.

Theodore wheeled himself toward Ariana. He held her hand and said with a smile, "Darling, we just had a little quarrel this morning. You know I can't walk, but you still left me behind. Don't you think that's too much?"

The warmth of his touch made Ariana's heart flutter. But she soon came to her senses. Wasn't he the one who told her to get lost this morning? What was he playing at now?

Ariana tried to break free from his grip, but he held her hand tighter.

She glared at him.

Nonetheless, Theodore's gentle smile got wider and wider. He looked like an understanding husband.

Jasper, who had been busy concocting a lie, walked up to Theodore and tried to explain. "Theodore, it's not what you think. Brielle was just playing with Ariana. They weren't fighting. That said, I'd like to introduce her to you."

Jasper took Brielle's hand and continued seriously, "This is my fiancee, Brielle Edwards. She is also Ariana's sister."

The living room suddenly became as silent as a graveyard.

Theodore rolled his eyes at the couple. He turned to Ariana and asked, "Is she really your sister?"

"Yeah, half-sister actually." Ariana nodded unhappily. Regardless of how she felt, she couldn't deny the truth.

"Eww! So ugly!" Theodore commented with a look of disgust.

Brielle pouted sadly and tugged at Jasper's sleeve, egging him to speak up for her.

Now that it was obvious that his half-brother was going to continue defending Ariana, Jasper couldn't hold back anymore. "Brielle is not only my fiancee, but also Aria's sister. You need to show her some respect!"

"What did you just say? Aria?" Theodore's face darkened in an instant. Glaring at Jasper, he ordered, "Mind your manners, boy! Ariana is your sister-in-law now. You should address her properly!"

"Ermm..." Jasper's face turned scarlet with fury and embarrassment. He knew that Theodore meant business now, so he couldn't oppose him publicly. He had no choice but to look at Ariana and say politely, "I meant to say, Ariana... my sister-in-law."

"Good boy," Ariana responded happily.

This response fueled Jasper's anger.

He bit his tongue to prevent himself from chewing Ariana out now. Afterward, he turned to look at Brielle and signaled to her to greet the couple.

Brielle stood out, lowered her head, and muttered reluctantly, "Good day, Mr. Anderson and Ariana."

Theodore ignored her completely. He gently raised his hand, and Horace pushed the wheelchair past her.

Brielle's face was distorted in anger.

When Glenda, who had been silent all the while, saw that Theodore was approaching her, she put on a smile and greeted him with feigned enthusiasm, "Welcome to my home, my son-in-law. I'm so glad that you finally regained consciousness. Now, my precious Ariana has someone to rely on."

"Uh! Thanks." Theodore avoided Glenda's hand and uttered, "Ariana told me that her mother died a long time ago. You are just her stepmother, so don't call me your son-in-law. It's spooky."

Ariana suddenly burst into laughter. It was amusing to see her enemies get roasted by someone else for a change.

Glenda was pissed, but she kept herself in check. With her fake smile widening, she asked, "To what do I owe this unexpected visit, Theodore?"

Theodore cut to the chase. "Ariana is now a member of the Anderson family. As my wife, her property is also mine. It's better to split it from yours."

Theodore's domineering aura was at its peak now. One glance from him was enough to still the troublesome Glenda.

His statement threw Ariana off guard. She was rendered speechless. After all, until a few minutes ago, he wanted nothing to do with her.

"Well, we don't have much property left..." Glenda squeezed out a sentence, looking at Theodore's frightening eyes. She knew better than to go against such a man, so she added fearfully, "But it's fine. I'll cooperate with you. Since the calculation is complicated, we need to get a lawyer."

Ariana sneered inwardly. Her instincts told her that Glenda was trying to buy herself some time to covet more assets.

"Oh, that won't be a problem. I came with a good lawyer." Theodore smirked complacently.

The next second, the man with a briefcase handed out his business card and said, "Good day, I'm Abdul Scott. I'm a lawyer who specializes in property division. Here are some files I prepared in advance. Please have a look."

Abdul took out two piles of documents from his briefcase and handed them to Glenda and Ariana respectively.

"We have listed all of Mrs. Anderson's late mother's personal belongings. Our team also contacted her late father's lawyer and got information on the properties that she's supposed to inherit. Please read through the documents. If everything sits right with you, append your signature on the agreement."

The faces of Glenda and Brielle darkened in an instant as they read through the documents.
