Chapter 4 The sick Omaris

"What a romantic dinner I just had!" She scoffed, taking another look at the lifeless couples.

She cleaned her body of the blood and walked back home as if nothing bad had happened.

Darlene had formed a habit of watching the news at night since she was a little girl so she looked at the clock hanging above the television, it was 9:55pm.

"Also time for the news!" She said in excitement as she jumped on the couch and grabbed the remote.

She switched on the television and remoted it to the news channel as she adjusted her position with her gaze fixed on the television while the advertisements prior to the news were going on.

"Welcome back on our channel, Goby station. We bring you the best of news at the speed of light" The presenter took a brief pause and continued.

"In the early hours of the night, tonight, a couple were seen dead in a love garden sited at the Allen axis which had been rumored about to be haunted. They had fangs bite on their neck when made the public to question which kind of animal could have attacked them and their corpses are been taken in to the laboratory for experiment." She took a pause again, shorter than the first one.

"The president had accept to adopt some foreign ways of trade to enhance the economy stability of the country. This was agreed upon early this afternoon after a brief meeting with the different officials."

"This would be all for the night. Stay tuned for more" She said with a broad smile but Darlene pressed the button and made the smile short.

"I love it when what I do gets to the public. You all don't believe we exist? Then I'll kill you all. And you! I'll make sure I find you and make you go through every pain you made me felt, twice as what I went through" She glared at the tin air as she gnashed her teeth and clenched her fist on the remote as she spoke.

Darlene switched off the lights and went to her room to sleep.

The next morning, the ray of the sun penetrated through the narrowly opened curtains and burnt Darlene's skin. She woke up from the pain and sprang up to a sitting position.

"Shit!" She cussed as she saw the opened curtains and rushed to close it.

She leaned behind the wall and let out a deed breath, "I wonder for how long this curse is going to linger. I can no longer live my normal life because of this nature" She thought aloud.

She walked back to the bed at a slow pace and sat on the edge of the bed when her eyes fell on her phone, she stretched her body and grabbed the phone. She turned on her data and connected to the internet when a mail notification popped up and she clicked on it - it says she was to resume work the following week and her mind ran through some many thought; how she was going to cope with the terrible sun rays that burnt her skin, how she would try so hard not to look too pale, how she would also try resist the urge of not drinking anyone's blood at work but all her thoughts ended on Omari.

"I should have killed him, his blood smells nice" She said as she licked her lips and smacked them.

She got out of bed and dragged her feet to the kitchen. She prepared herself rice and stew for breakfast and after eating, she went back to her room to sleep.

Omari woke up, feeling hot and feverish. He tried to sit up but his weak body could barely carry him so he had to stay put on the bed. As usual, few minutes later, Carina opened the door.

"Get up, lazy ass. It's another day to be useless" She said, turned and took some few steps away when she heard some muffled sounds.

She rephrased her steps back to the room and seeing how Mari popped his head out of the blankets, she knew something was off so she rushed to his side and placed his head on her laps.

"You're running temperature, what happened, Mari?"

"I also don't know, mom" He said in a faint voice.

"Let's get you to the hospital then" Rina panicked.

"No, mom! It's fine. I'll cool down after a bath"

"You are not fine, Mari. You need to see a doctor" She insisted.

She left Mari and went to her room to get her phone. She punched in some numbers and the receiver picked almost immediately.

"Hello, doctor Richard."

"Good morning, Mrs. Rina. How are you doing this morning?"

"I'm fine but Mari isn't"

"What's wrong with him?"

"I don't know. I went to his room to wake him up but saw that he's running a very high temperature. Can you please come over?"

"I'm sorry but that can't be possible now because I'm currently out of town"

"Okay but you could at least send a nurse over?" She asked with her fear embedded in her voice.

"Sure! I'll do just that" He said and ended the call.

Carina went back to Omari, "A nurse would be here soon. Please, be strong for me" she said and Mari nodded gently.

"I'll be right back" She said and raced out of the room.

She rushed down the stairs and went to the kitchen. She grabbed a bowl of cold water and a towel and went back to Omari. She placed his head on her lap and the bowl of water on the table. She dipper the towel in the water and mopped his body gently.

After what seems to be ages, there was a knock on the door.

"That must be the nurse!" Carina said and went for the door.

Dianne stood at the door with a smile and a lunch box in her hand but before she could utter any word, Rina dragged her in.

"He's in his room. You came at the right time."
