Chapter 5 Divorce Agreement

Vagow was shrouded in mist the next morning.

It was the first time in three years that Loraine had such a sound sleep. She didn't wake up to meet a series of chores that needed to be done.

She looked at her phone and reasoned that Marco must be at work by now. Other than Keely, work was the other thing that kept Marco away from home. During the past three years, Loraine had only seen him a handful of times.

Loraine quickly warded off thoughts about her sad marriage. She washed her face and took a taxi to Bryant Group without disturbing her family.

Her whole life as a married woman revolved around household duties. She was a servant to them. Marco never took her out for social functions or to his company. Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine that she would be coming here to discuss divorce with him.

Standing in front of the tall building of Bryant Group, Loraine took a deep breath before walking in.

The receptionist frowned at her the moment she stepped foot inside.

"Hey, this place is not an amusement park where just anyone can walk in. Who are you looking for?" she asked with a scowl.

"I'm here to see Marco Bryant. He's expecting me," replied Loraine indifferently.

The receptionist's frown deepened. She looked at Loraine from head to toe with disgust in her eyes.

Loraine was still wearing the clothes she wore yesterday. Worse still, they weren't good clothes. She didn't have time to shop for new clothes or dress up because she had lived the life of a servant until yesterday.

The receptionist flipped her hair back and said disdainfully, "Mr. Bryant doesn't have an appointment with anyone today. Besides, only important people can see him. Please leave before I call security to throw you out."

Loraine sighed deeply.

It appeared that everything she had done for Marco and his family was all in vain.

Even his employees didn't know her! It went without saying that he didn't value her at all.

Just as the receptionist picked up the phone receiver to call security, Carl Dixon, Marco's assistant, happened to pass by. He walked over the moment he saw Loraine.

"Mrs. Bryant! Why are you here? Did you come to see Mr. Bryant? Please come with me. I'll take you to him."

The phone receiver fell from the receptionist's hand when she heard this. Her face turned red. She bowed to Loraine and apologized profusely.

Turning a deaf ear to her words, Loraine followed Carl silently.

Carl figured that Loraine was hurt, so he said apologetically, "Sorry about that, Mrs. Bryant. Not that it's an acceptable excuse, but the receptionist treated you that way because she didn't know who you are. You know what? I'll make sure she's punished. Such an incident will never happen again."

"There will be no need for that, Carl. I won't be stepping foot in this building after today." Loraine smiled faintly.

Carl was curious to know what she meant by that, but he knew better than to pry.

After taking the elevator to the top floor, Carl led Loraine to an office down the corridor. He knocked on the door. Then he waited until he heard Marco say, "Come in!"

This was the first time Loraine was coming here, and it would be her last. She walked in slowly, putting on an unfriendly mask.

Marco was stunned when he raised his head.

"Weren't you supposed to go home? Why are you here?" His cold and sharp eyes flashed with imperceptible relaxation.

Proud thoughts crossed his mind. She must have come to her senses now.

She couldn't live without him. No surprise there!

Loraine walked up to his desk and took out a document from her bag.

Marco reasoned that Loraine brought a gift for him to make peace.

In his mind, she wanted him to forgive her for running away from home and asking for a divorce out of the blue.

The thought of this gave Marco a swollen head. He decided not to make things difficult for her.

"I'm not a man to hold grudges, so I forgive you for that stunt you pulled yesterday. Just don't ask for a divorce ever again. You are an adult. Don't behave like a child. Otherwise, you and I-"

Loraine cut him off by throwing the document on his desk.

The header of the document made his face fall. It read, "Divorce Agreement."

"I prepared the divorce agreement. It has my signature already. You should have a look at it. If there are no complaints, sign it now," Loraine said, her eyes extremely cold.

Marco's face darkened.

"What the hell is this, Loraine?"
