CHAPTER 5: MEET THE DOOMS.

"What is it officer? Anything the matter?" Ray asked, wondering what made the officer had the expression on his face when he looked at the identity card of the yet to be known lady.

"You don't know who you just saved, do you?" The officer scoffed, shaking his head. "Obviously." Ray wondered what all the mysticism was for. "She is Agnes Doom. The daughter of the fifth richest man in America, Salazar Doom." The officer revealed.

"You don't say!" Ray's eyes widened in amazement. He only knew of Salazar Doom, but never had anything to do with the man personally. The Dooms lived in a class of their own, way up in the higher echelons of society, so how the hell would a guy like Ray ever have anything to do with them?

Ray turned and looked at Agnes. He wasn't even concerned about who she was. He was just glad he saved her. "Well, this is all so heartwarming and all, but we can go now, can't we? Since the cops are here. Right?" Nickie suggested.

Nickie felt threatened that she would lose Ray to Agnes. "Umm, I guess." Ray said shrugging, as he pursed his lips. He didn't want to leave just yet, but he wanted to honor Nickie's request. He felt obligated to see that Agnes gets to her home and family safe and sound.

Ray was a bit hesitant, but decided to just go anyway. As he took steps leaving that vicinity, he was grabbed by the elbows by Agnes. "Don't go. Please, don't go." She pleaded. Seeing this, Ray had some kind of De ja Vu flashback of his time in Afghanistan.

He recalled of how he had once obeyed his superior and chose to leave certain civilians when they begged his unit not to leave just yet, but they did anyway, and not long after, they were all massacred, by rebel forces.

That was the experience that made him choose to defy his superior the next time he was ordered to do so. He saw that they were using him and his unit as puppets for some political scheme, and he wasn't going to be used for such anymore.

"Alright. I'll stay." Ray replied Agnes. His decision pissed Nickie off, causing her to turn and walk away. "Your girlfriend must he offended." The officer said. "Well, she's not my girlfriend. We just met this night. Nothing more." Ray replied.

Agnes subtly took note of what Ray said, as she still grabbed hold of Ray's hand. At that moment, a convoy of three black cars speedily arrived at the scene. There was no need to guess who had arrived. It was Agnes'father, Salazar Doom. Agnes had called her father, unknown to Ray and the officer.

Salazar Doom literally hopped out of his car, a Mercedes Benz S-Class, not waiting to follow the usual formality of waiting for a bodyguard to open his door for him. A beautiful looking woman hopped out of the other side of the Mercedes Benz as well. She was Melissa Doom, Agnes'mother.

Agnes parents approached her with worried looks. "Daddy!" Agnes ran and fell in the arms of her father. Melissa hugged her as well, as they both sobbed. "My baby! Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Melissa asked, scanning her daughter's body.

"Where are the bastards who laid their filthy hands on my daughter? Where are they?" Salazar growled. He was filled with rage. "Sir, they've all been apprehended and are in our custody." The officer replied.

"Take me to them." Salazar requested. "Sir, I don't think that will be possible now." The officer replied. "Do you live your job, officer?" Salazar said, threateningly. The officer gulped in fear, because he knew the loss of his job was just a phone call away, if Salazar so chose to make the call.

"Dad, he's just trying to do his job." Agnes intervened. "I'll make sure they rot in jail." Salazar snarled. "Call Doctor Phil, ask him to come over to the house, so he can check Agnes." Salazar instructed one of the men in suit with him. "Right away sir." The man in suit replied, nodding.

"Dad?" Agnes called out gently. "Yes sweetheart." Salazar answered. "He's the one who saved me. Single handedly taking on the four of them." Agnes revealed.

"Really?" Salazar was amazed. "Thank you very much young man. I am indebted to you." Salazar appreciated Ray, offering him a firm handshake. "Anyone in my position would do the same." Ray was trying to be humble.

"No. Anyone one in your position would have rather called the cops, but you ran head on into danger. Not everyone is like you." Salazar countered. "Yeah. That was a big sacrifice. You could have got hurt, trying to save a stranger." Melissa chipped in as well.

"Here's my business card. And I would like to see you on Monday." Salazar requested. Ray received the gold quoted business card. The card granted anyone given VIP access to Doom Industries.

"Thank you sir." Ray appreciated. "No. Thank you." Salazar objected. "We'll be on our way now." Salazar declared, as he and his wife, Melissa, held on to Agnes, leading her to the car they drove in to that location together.

Agnes turned and looked at Ray one last time. Ray cracked up a smile, waving at her. She smiled back, and got into the car. Ray watched the cars drive off. "I guess that about does it for tonight huh?" The officer said.

"You saved one person and lost another." The officer was referring to Nickie. He could tell Nickie wanted to get down with such an attractive man as Ray. "Well, priorities changed." Ray replied.

"And that's why you're one hell of a soldier." The officer said. Ray smiled, looking at the card Salazar had given him. "Nickie sure looked pissed." Lin said out of nowhere. "Holy mother of..." Ray was startled.

"You always do this." Ray felt like smacking Lin. "So, you've had quite the night huh? Saving the daughter of Salazar Doom, the billionaire." Lin said. "Just a normal day." Ray didn't make a big deal about it.

"It seems you left the military, but the military hasn't left you huh?" Lin said, making Ray smile. "I hope you know what this means right?" Lin asked, poking Ray. "What does it mean?" Ray asked.

"You're settled dumb ass. You're going to be compensated, well." Lin said. "I guess so." Ray shrugged.
