Chapter 4 The reunion

As Jake got out of the truck his legs became wobbly and he felt as though he might be sick. He took a deep breath and started walking towards the man. When he got up to him the man politely asked can I help you with anything? And jakes voice cracked a little as he said no thank you I was just looking for someone but I believe I have the wrong house thank you for your time. As he turn to walk away he heard the man say something but couldn't quite make it out. He turned and said pardon me I did t catch that. The man looked at him sadly and said your my son aren't you.

Jake was in shock how did this man know him? They had never met. How did he know the reason he came? He looked at the man and said shakily I think so. The man grinned and said would you happen to be Jake? Yes I am Jake said. Are you Jason brooks? I am said the man. Would you please come in for a moment nobody is home but me. The man asked. Jake didn't know what to say he wanted to but he was in complete disbelief not only had this man l 2 miles away but he even recognized Jake. He decided that he wanted answers so jake replied yes and they walked inside. They walked into the massive house and they were in a living room approximately 600 square feet it was the biggest living room Jake had ever seen. From the living room you could see the kitchen and a stair way going up to the next 2 floors. The man walked over to one of the three couches and said have a seat anywhere you like. Jake sat down on a couch across from the man and said how did you recognize me? probably the same way you found me. Through the ancestry website. I got an email last week that said a new match had been sent in and it gave me your name and age and of course your mother told me your name years ago and I new it would only be a matter of time before you found me but I have to say I was expecting it would take more than 4 days. Jason replied. Do you know where I live? Jake asked. The man replied that he did not. Jake said I live about 2 miles from here. I remember when this house was being built about 10 years ago. The man replied yeah 10 years is about right. Why did you never try to contact me? Jake asked. Well I wasn't sure how you would react to me. The man said I was never around and you never knew me so I wasn't quite sure you wanted too. Jake responded I spent 22 years wondering who and where you were. Why you never tried to be in my life. I wondered all kinds of things about you and now I find out for the last 10 you've been right here. I've probably seen you around and never even recognized you. The man replied son I know I. Jake quickly cut him off I don't want an excuse I want a straight answer so if you plan on giving me anything less than the honest reason you never had anything to do with me then I'll leave. You ain't no kid I'll tell it to you straight man to man. Jason replied. The reason I didn't have anything to do with you was because I was married when your mother and I met and I didn't want to ruin my marriage I never should have had the affair but I was drunk and in a bad place that night. And then about 10 years ago my wife passed away and you had already spent 12 years without me and I didn't want to come in and blow your whole world up. The man explained. I wish you would have given me the option at least. Jake said. Jason replied I was actually wondering if maybe there was still a possibility we could get to know each other now. Jake responded I think I could try. Jason gave Jake a big smile and said I'm so glad you feel that way I felt so guilty over the last few years about never reaching out and now your willing to give me a shot. Well I'm still Trying to wrap my head around all this but this is a good start. Jake said. Jason said I'm so excited you feel that way. I have to get to a business meeting but I would like it if you would come by for supper around 6. It will still just be the two of us I want to ease into this slowly with your siblings. I have siblings? Jake replied. Jason responded oh yes. You have two sisters and a brother. Your actually the oldest out of them all. Your oldest sister is Jessica and she just turned 21. Your brother Matthew is 18 he won't be around much he's running a couple businesses in California for me. Your youngest sister is Sarah and she is 14. She is a whirl wind I don't know what to do with her at this point but that's a story for another time. You will meet them all in time but for right now I just want to focus on us connecting. Ok that's great I will see you a 6 for supper. Jake said. As he walked out the door jakes mind raced with thoughts of having siblings and connecting with his father. And he couldn't help but wonder about his sister sarah and was she really as bad as his father made it sound.
