Chapter 7 Mafia King

"Take her to her room," King declared as Louis followed after she left.

"Pour me another glass." King bade Drake.

Drake sighed, "here you go. Your lawyer should be here any moment from now."

"So what?" King questioned angrily.

"You should know what to say to Maya," Drake replied as he disregarded his sentiments.

"Drake, what do you mean?" He asked, and turned his attention to him.

"You know what I mean, let's begin.

Here is the thing, you are going to act as the King's messenger, you will send the papers to her and pretend to know nothing about it."

"Then?" He asked with curiosity.

"Of course, you will give it to her to read? From there, she will start behaving feminine." Drake steepled his fingers as he replied thoughtfully.

"And what will be my part?"

"Then you set in, trying to console her if possible hug her. Talk to her in a heartwarming way, and make her feel she has someone to turn to."

King snorted out of boredom, he sipped her wine and asked. "Very boring, how can I do all that nonsense?"

Drake paced up and down in frustration, "King, I am serious with everything I am saying. Don't be bossy this time, if you do that, forget everything."

"Light me a cigar. This is way too boring."

Drake frowned, "you know, sometimes I just wonder why I am still your friend, fuck! Go to hell, I will be back." He slammed the door and went out."

"Shit! Drake." He cursed and then followed behind.

King spotted Drake with Hayat who was in her usual black skirt and white blouse.

"Hayat, where is Maya?" Drake asked.

"She is in her room, anything you would want me to do?"

Drake reached out for Hayat's hand and they looked into each other's eyes.

"Yes, I want you to do something for me, it's very important."

She smiled and nodded, "I am all ears, Mr. Drake."

"I want you to send this message to all the workers in this house. Tell them not to call King by King, for some reasons which I am not going to tell you. Again, tell them any mistake won't be encouraged. Anyone who was heard calling him would be fired with immediate effect." Drake said seriously.

"And wait! No one should tell Maya about King. That's all for now, you can leave. Remember, no mistakes." Drake warned as he let go of her.

She narrowed her brows in confusion, "what should we call him then."

"Tell them to call me boss or sir," Drake turned and King stood there with hands jammed into his pockets.

"Hayat, you heard him, you can leave."

"Excuse me," Hayat bowed as Drake got closer to the King.

Good you are here, your lawyer is waiting for you in the living room."

He scratched his beard, "I don't have anything to discuss with him, it's your business, not mine. Take care of it yourself, I will be in the library." King proclaimed and bypassed Drake.

"Fuck you, King. Wait, don't leave, where is the ring?"

"In the drawer in my study, get it yourself."

After a few minutes, Drake entered the library. He was spotted him seated in the middle of the room over filled with books. King shifted his gaze from the documents before him.

"Can't you just leave me alone for a minute? Drake, what do you want this time?"

Drake slid a brown envelope on the table, King elevated a brow.

"Take this."

King did not take it, he stared at it and then back to Drake. "What is that?"

"This is what you have to give Maya, it also has the ring. I am leaving now." He said and darted to the French door.

"Leaving?" King asked.

"Yes, I have to see my buddy, she is not doing very well." He said and truly left.

"Seriously, Drake!" He sighed, hauled the envelope, and frustratingly walked straight to Maya's room.

As he opened the door, the scent of roses filled his nose. He entered Maya's room and for some time, he became speechless, his jaw dropped at his panorama. She was in just a towel which covered up to her mid-thighs with her hair drenched.

King scanned from her beautiful legs up to meet her gaze. She screamed and firmly held onto the towel as she saw him through the mirror.

She turned and locked eyes with King, "what the hell are you doing? Stop looking at me and talk."

She sighed and kept quiet to normalize her breath. "What are you doing here?" She repeated.

"Why didn't you even knock? So arrogant." She said, waggled her eyebrows, and twitched her lips in annoyance.

King raised his head a little bit, "you never learn, do you? You keep speaking to me anyhow."

"Really? Never mind, wait here, I will change into something decent." She replied, and slumped her shoulder as she disappeared to her closet.

King walked to the window to inhale the lovely rose scent.

She came back wrapped in a morning coat. And she looked graciously beautiful, especially with wet hair.

She swayed to the bed, and displayed her beautiful long legs as her pretty delicate naked feet touched the ground.

"Now tell me, Raphael, why are you here?" She asked as her face burned scarlet from embarrassment.

At the mention of Raphael, King was brought back to life.

He walked closer and placed the envelope beside her. "Well, King's lawyer asked me to bring you this from him."

"What is that?" She asked, turned it upside down then glimpsed at King who also had his head tilted.

"You are not blind, are you? You are also not illiterate, are you? Take it, have a look at it yourself, I don't know what is in there."

"Whatever!" She commented, King strolled and leaned against the door and crossed his arms over his chest, and patiently waited for her reaction.

She opened it, smiled slightly and shook her head, but she did not say anything. She scanned through it again and paused, she was calm.

"What is this?" She said, and waved the papers in the air with a skeptical glance.

"What is what?" King asked as he pretended not to know anything.

She raised the papers higher, "this?"

"What is that? Is something wrong? What does it say?" He asked and went closer to have a look. All the same, it wasn't entirely a lie, he did not know what was in there.

"I guess you are not visually impaired? See it for yourself," Maya challenged.

He collected it and scanned through it, "what's wrong with this? Don't you just have to sign them?"

"What? Are you hearing yourself?"

She sighed! "Or can't you read? If I sign them it means I have married him. I will be his wife for God's sake!" She yelled as she placed her head in her hands.

She raised her head, and visibly, she was affected. She spoke firmly but calmly.

She massaged her temples and hesitated.

"Should I marry someone I don't know, what kind of marriage is this, where I don't get to see my husband? How he looks, no oath, are you crazy? And you want me to marry him? Sometimes I don't even know the difference between the two of you.

She sighed, I won't sign anything, send them back to him. She said as fresh tears sprouted from her eyes.

King frowned, he hated how she cried so easily.

"Maya, do you know you can't decide? You just have to sign it. You will just have to put on your wedding ring. You won't even see him for a whole year. Just sign them." For the first time, he spoke calmly.

She veered her gaze towards the window.

"You are still crazy, how can I get married to someone I won't see for a whole year? To put that aside, he killed my husband."

She stared blankly with her wet eyes, "tell me since you do everything for him, did he kill my husband, or did he order you to?"

"You were not married to him? How was he your husband?"

"That's not the answer to the question I asked."

"I didn't kill your husband," he said honestly because Rafael didn't have anything to do with the killing. But he didn't trust the King in him.

She wrapped her arms around her, "And what about King? He did, didn't he?"

"I don't know," he replied plainly.

"Why are you with him? What did you do for him? Or did you suffer my fate? Did you owe him? Please tell me why you are with him."

"Come here," King said with his arms opened to welcome her. She managed to stand up and reluctantly walked to him and they embraced.

"Please send me away from here, I don't want anything to do with him, I want to leave." She pleaded while in his embrace.

King slipped his hand into her hair, "shush... don't say anything, just be in my embrace for a while."

"Sorry but I am King himself." He thought and smiled inwardly, a devil in white.

"I freed her and well done, my shirt was soaked with tears. Do I have to go through all these? Drake!" He cursed under his breath.

He watched her stare at the papers confusingly. "Should I leave you alone for now?"

"No, I have made up my mind." She replied firmly.
