A thick cloud had covered the sky like there was a storm coming, up the road from her; Lisa could hear the party music, it was a full moon and her skin was itching like a thousand ants were running around her body; hugging and rubbing her arms seemed to calm it down and as she got closer to the party she ignores the pull on her skin from within, it felt like every other of her reaction to her being nervous.
There was such an occasion where she had snuck out to Kate's party, the only girl she could call her friend who was tall for most girls at sixteen, dark skin with an obsessive love for chocolate, the thought of Kate with a mouthful of chocolate trying to make a point as they argue in her spacious Kitchen made her chuckle. You'll think she was fat but Kate was an athlete who took fitness serious; everything with Kate was done with close obsession and done well, even now Lisa could feel her heartbeat fasten bringing with it the thoughts of that event two years ago when she was sixteen. Jerry had shown up that night with a car he calls Asphalt, a red sport car always shining every time she saw it shining even in the garage; Asphalt was never covered but not a speck of dust will be seen on that car, it was like he came every two hours to clean the car. Jerry had come and dragged her home, not by causing a scene but she had noticed for a long time that people tend to do what Jerry says and when he was not talking avoid him and move out of his path mostly subconsciously; he showed up and asked to take her home and she was delivered to him and when they got home, she was grounded.
Today is not that day and Lisa was not going to let him ruin it, taking in deep breaths to calm herself, she proceeds to ascend the hill to the location of the Clawson family mansion where the party is hosted by Peter Clawson, the only son in the family and with both parents out of town again he had the house to himself. Peter who was as fit as Jack due to the fact that he lived with Jack when his parents were away, both became best of friends who did things together. Peter was of average height and weight with an excellent humor and great intelligence that left his victims beyond shock as a result of his extreme playfulness.
The mansion came into view and she drops the thought of Peter to absorb her environment, on either side of the hill were forest, the swaying of the trees added a good effect in the background as the mansion stood out with loud music and bright lighting; outside on the well maintain lawn were some ladies and guys talking among themselves, she let her gaze settle on them for a moment before resuming her walk drawing nearer to the party and giving time for her hearing to adjust to the music.
Lisa walks by ignoring all the gaze that were thrown in her direction, it was the first time in a while that she was attending a party but she did not let it faze her and gave nothing away of her shaking hands which were well hidden in crossed arm, holding her head up high she enters into the building; the spacious clearing that greeted her was beautified with four totem carved at the four corners, in the center is a pool, she let her gaze drift across the space looking for Jack.
Lisa eyes moved to settle on Peter who was already looking and held her gaze and around him were six ladies she did not know all dress their best, he held her gaze and brightens into a smile like they have been apart for years, when he did that all features seemed to come alive and he was very charming, she figured that was one reason that many other made girls flock him; the ladies he was with turn when he excused himself moving in her direction, if they felt bad it was not something that could be told from the way they whispered to each other while Peter made his way to her like he owned to space, eyes forward and not dropping the eye contact. She waits till he came to her.
"Let's all welcome Lisa." Peter whispers as he steps closer, dark, plaited hair, blue eyes, the shape of his abs showed on his white long sleeve shirt which he matched with black jean on white snickers. "What rock did you crawl out from ?" Lisa smiles.
"Look who has a big mouth." Lisa responds to his hearing as he reaches her.
"it's a small price to see you smile" Peter says as they hug each other, when they separate she knew she had everyone gaze on her, peter could do that, become the center of attention. Peter eyes travels the long black gown she wore, simple and elegant was his thought and her hair was straightened to the back and tied.
Lisa rolled her eyes at Peter's act of taking in the view like he called it, Peter laughs "You can't stop a man from admiring, black is gorgeous on you. You came to kill" at the last he made the motion to hang himself in the air. Lisa could not help laughing, he made all her concern of the people watching evaporate.
Peter offers his arm and she takes it "Do you believe I went out the window and had to dress outside."
Peter stops and looks at her in disbelieve "Dressed without a mirror ?" Lisa nods and Peter had to hold him laughter, he expressed amazement at her action.
"The bogeyman will hunt us once he sees you're missing." Peter laughs not able to hold it in. Lisa frowns at him.
"He is not a bogeyman but the hunting is sure" Lisa says and elbows him.
They were laughing and talking when Jack appears behind them, "You're hard to not see in the crowd especially when you're moving with him." it started her, his silent approach, they both turn to see Jack's foreign smile, peter hits her and laughs making her join in.
"Don't scare the lady with your movement. Training is still till tomorrow. " Peter says and wink at her, Lisa nods " I was just telling your girl I'm in the market" Peter was not surprise or did not show it , he looked unfazed at Jack's action, it made her wonder what the training was about.
" No, he said if you're acting like an idiot I should smack you." Lisa winks back at Peter who has his mouth open and Jack laughs and hugs Lisa.
"I won't mind that." Jack whispers to their hearing.
"Sadly, it's past overdue." Lisa says in a mock tone that made the boys laugh.
Jack looks at Peter and release her " Babe I need to talk with Peter alone for a short while at the edge of the pool. I'll be back shortly." Lisa nods and Jack pulls a reluctant Peter away from her, he had told her whatever Jack will says to mostly endangers his life. Lisa follows them with her eyes admiring the swift movement in their steps.
Lisa could feel her skin to crawl stronger above her.the cloud gave way and the full shone it's full force, he legs went weak and it was a struggle to keep standing, she focuses on Jack, crossing her arms and rubbing her body to reduce the pain.
"What's this about ?" Peter asks when they were at the edge of the pool. Lisa stood surprised as the content of their speech was clear to her earing when she focused on them even as they whispered to each other at the edge of the pool.
"The rest of the family have gone into the forest there's been a trespass. I think it's a beast " Jack says.
"Do you mean..." Peter trails off in his question.
"Yes" Peter says "You need to clear out the party, this is the last checkpoint if any pass the others."
"They can handle a few trespasser from outside the city trying to invade through the forest."
Jack shakes his head "You don't understand; it's a pack..." Jack was saying when a voice beside her disrupted her concentration.
"Hello" Lisa turns to see Harmonica, a tall and athletic lady with a blonde hair and light skin, she was the magazine definition of beauty; she was Jack's ex and the sport of their school. Harmonica had a smile on her face, Lisa blinks, she could scent jealousy and anger over the heavy perfume she had on.
"Hello." Lisa replies her voice cold, she did not see a reason to talk with her and it will better if she took the hint and left. Lisa turns to try to concentrate on the conversation Jack was having.
"You must be his new girl and also a pretty one." Lisa turns to face Harmonica, there was an edge to Harmonica voice, the jealousy scent on her was stronger; ignoring her had pushed her nice approach away. Lisa recognized she was trying to make herself feel better. Lisa steps back to take a good look at harmonica dressed in her blue dress and braided hair, this bimbo was trying to draw attention, it annoyed her but she was not going to give in to petty provocation, her uncle Jerry had a degree at that and she learnt a little from him; Lisa smiles at Harmonica and pats her on the arm.
"I see he got tired of you." Lisa replied coolly and the pretense gave way as Harmonica stares at Lisa, her face twisted in rage as she fumbles for words to say; Lisa smiles and walks away. Lisa knew Harmonica was watching her, she could hear Jack disagree to leaving the party and she knew she was the reason for his adamant behavior when she heard him say "I just got her to come out and that's when they decide to go hunting" she could smell his frustration on having to decide to leave her.
Lisa holds him from behind "Do you know it's a bad habit to leave a lady on her own ?" she whispers to their hearing, Jack draws her to his front in an embrace. Lisa looks over his shoulder at harmonica and smiles. Perter follows her gaze and forces a smile to his face.
"She'll be your death." Peter says. Jack laughs as Lisa beams her back off look at Peter who shrugs it off. Lisa releases Jack and steps back but he took hold of her hand and was about to speak when Peter mutters under his breath to them "Here she comes" Harmonica was making her way over doing all she could to perfect her walk. It was forced and comical that she could not do anything but pity.
"Hi" Harmonica says to Jack who turns and smiles at her; the same way a guy would with no idea of the girl's intention thinking they were friends but Lisa knew Harmonica still had deep feeling for him. She felt annoyed about his disposition, Jack introduces Harmonica to Lisa.
"Excuse me" Peter says and walks away " I'll be outside Jack and I will check the bag you brought along while I wait" he says as he makes his way out having small conversations and exchanging greetings with those that came up to him.
"We've met" Lisa says coldly and I don't like her she wanted to add but kept that part to herself, there was no need to make things difficult for Jack.
" I need to join him outside for a short time, can you ladies wait till I come ?"
"Yes, we ladies will stick together " Jack nods at Harmonica reassurance. He hugs Lisa and whispers " I won't be long so don't chop her head off" his scent made her relax. The cloud above cleared and the moon stood shining with no obstruction and she felt her blood boil, it was like the moon was all there is was the world.
"Are you okay ?" Jack whispers.
"Yes I am." Lisa forced herself to say "I am just considering if I should take you up on your offer" Jack laughs, pecks her and heads out.
Lisa was ready to let things slide she had other things on her mind, her skin felt like it wanted to melt, she wanted to scream at the top of her lungs she did not understand her body at the moment, she felt a little dizzy and staggers. Harmonica holds her from falling into the pool, she was drawing attention to herself and she did not like it. Lisa felt her bones shift underneath her making her ground her teeth.
"It won't be long before he leaves you. Lady to lady you should be the one doing the leaving" Harmonica said and while her voice sounded cool, calm and collected Lisa could scent the foulness, jealousy and mischief emitting from her.
" Jack is mine!" Lisa looked at her sharply, her eyes glowing deep blue freaks Harmonica and in her panic to put distance between her and Lisa. Harmonica falls into the pool. Lisa did not hang around to the gathering it drew but made her way out of the mansion.
The cool breeze graced her skin as she came out; the moon light seemed to be pounding in her head, her kneels felt weak; she heard Harmonica scream of demon at the top of her voice and made her way to the bush clearing where she had to rest on a tree that began the forest; she looked into a puddle of water by the tree, her reflection and what stared back at her were her frosty blue eye, she caught her breath as pain tore through her nerves, she feel the bones in her arm break even as she registers her jaw shift and canine tooth elongate; something was happening to her and she did not like it.
The heat and pain rising within were unbearable, she wanted to make it stop but as she saw Jack make his way to her with a black bag and she did not want him to see her state; Lisa runs into the forest.
Jack stops in his tracks watching as Lisa parted the leaves running into the forest barefooted, at some point she had removed her shoe and kept it by the tree. Jack moves close to the tree observing the deep scratch Lisa fingers made on the tree, he could recognize the mark, looking in the direction she ran he stepped award taking her shoe with her.
Jack knew more about his family than he had told her, they were hunters the kind that went after werewolves and vampire two supernatural creature many thought were myths but his family had kept their tradition alive and secret; not exactly the kind of thing you tell your girlfriend. he had read secret books on werewolves, their weakness and how to recognize one, from a young age perfecting the act of the hunt was what his training had been all about and since he was born there had never been sight of any supernatural creature in the city but tonight all his family member had gone hunting. Jack hated coincidences and disbelieved it, if Lisa was a werewolf as the marking on the tree indicated then she was in more danger entering the forest his family were patrolling tonight.
Jack took our a paper from his jeans pocket, the one he had found when he went home that in formed his that all members were out hunting Beasts, most likely Werewolves who thought it foolish to trespass into their city border through the forest; the hunter from his family were engaging the beasts, when Jack had went into the infantry to take stock and weapon supply for himself and Peter to occupy the last checkpoint as any direction from outside the city through the forest lead first to Peter's family mansion, with most of the weapons in the infantry taking, the guns, sliver bullets, knives coated in sliver poisoning and sliver arrows. Jack had been surprised, he took what was left and for the first time the infantry was cleaned out. This was a large scale attack they were trying to put undercurrent and he knew the wolves will not just attack the city, he was certain they were after something but he had not know what then, coming back here he was in charge to make sure no one headed into the forest and Peter was already disbanding the party with he music turned off and the light killed. The silence was returning as cars drove away toward the city a mile from the mansion.
Werewolves could smell this large gathering of humans here and will most likely move in this direction and he had to be ready. The house on the hill built by the Clawson was not just for fancy but as the last line of defense, he calmed his mind and collected his thoughts he had come here to get Lisa to safety but she saw him and ran into the forest even when she looked at him her eyes were blue. Werewolf blue and he had read that born wolf went through there first change on their eighteenth birthday which was today for her, he knew she did not want him to come to her that's why she ran into the forest and if his assumptions were right she was in danger from both sides of this hunt.
Jack looked around for Peter, he found him ushering some drunk ladies into another guy car to drop them off; he trusted Peter to be dependable when needed, Charles thought he was tooich of a playboy to have sense buy Jack knew he was wrong Peter was one of those guys you could trust your back and Peter was dangerously intelligent. Jack watches Peter send people with as little struggle as possible and now there were just two cars left, he did not know how Peter pulls over this kind of feats and did not care, Peter had on him a red bag, the one Jack was aftwr , he reached Peter as last two cars were just driving off.
"Where is Lisa ?" Peter asked as he looks around what greets his view was silence and his littered lawn which made him sigh.
"The bag. Ran into the forest." Jack says and he could feel the anger in his voice, he knew if he ran after her he would have been unable to help her and would be in greater danger, he felt bad for not noticing it earlier today; she had been bold, possessive and daring today, it was so good to have her here he got carried away.
"What is it man ?" Peter shook him as Jack stood there thinking.
"The bag" Jack said and collects it, he opens it to see guns of various types, he places the bag he was holding beside the red bag, opening to reveal sliver bullets arranged in order and In different size; Jack informs peter about his assumptions and what he noticed about Lisa before she ran into the forest as they matched bullets to guns, sharpen sliver knives and host the gun in belt on their shoulder level for easy access.
"that's one hell of an assumption my brother. " Peter says and Jack just stares at him the look he had when they went hunting animals during training and once he had it on they always went home with a big kill "Okay, I understand. There is sniper point at the roof of the mansion and I know me coming will only so you down so I'll hold the last line of defense for you." Jack nods. Peter hated when he was like this as Jack did not speak in anger and Peter found himself doing to questions and answer. He watched jack pick a sliver wire from the bag, it was very thin but hard to break.
Jack had wasted enough time suiting up and he wanted to be in there tracking her and keeping her from harm. "I would bring her back safely" he said aloud not to anyone but to calm his mind.
"You know I believe you're one to live long and you know there is nothing about living long in that forest and..." Peter trails off as Jack holds his gaze , he comes to a stop. Peter coluld tell any convincing will go the wind; he suddenly felt tried that he rubs his head to clear the cominf headache.
"Okay I agree to watch your back from my tower" Jack nods and he throws a watch to him. "I'll be able to track you around the 300 meter radius my sniper covers so I'll be able to lend a hand within my cover area and the last motion sensor to light –" peter checks his phone "- just now is to the north" Jack nods, shakes hand with Peter and heads into the forest.
The motion sensor beeps once loud enough in Lisa ears that she flinch as it felt like her bones were burning underneath her skin, the clearness of moon seemed to beckon to something within her to come to the surface, she had made her way to little clearing surrounded by forest on every corner, she flinches at the second beep and gives a low growl at the tree it was hosted; her kneel gave in and having dragged it to this point on mere will power her body felt like it would crumble from underneath her, she could smell her own confusion and fear, she hears movement in the leaves behind her. Lisa forces herself to stand but her body did not want to go on as it was, the wind blew and she caught Jack's scent in the air he was coming for her, she panics, he must be running through the woods in her direction, she did not want him to see her in this state with sharp teeth probing out of her mouth, she tries to calm down but her leg gave in she fell and twisted, her scream echos through the woods , she put her hand to her mouth to muffle her voice, she was scared, confused and in pains which seemed to hasten the breaking of the bones, she screams once more and it was reduced to deep growls, whatever was happening to her made shiver, she perceives danger approaching her and she was vulnerable, that thought increases the breaking of her bones, her fear filling her nose, knowing resisting would cost her, she gives in completely, the change had commenced.
