Most of the doctors focused their attention on him, so they also knew what his weakness and fear was, but because of what they had seen earlier, their faces showed surprise and amazement because of what they saw.
Even the executive director came to find out that Doctor Villarreal took him to the operating room to be an assistant. It is important for the executive director to know that his son has been included in an operation to be made an assistant.
The executive director is Russel's father, while the vice president is his mother. His parents were both doctors. All of them family members are doctors by profession and all of them are good especially his older brother.
"You did a great job, Intern Hernandez." the executive director softly whispered to him and lightly patted him on the shoulder, he immediately smiled because of what the executive director said.
"Thanks, dad." he said causing his father's eyes to widen slightly, he laughed softly. "It's my job, sir."
He looked in the direction of Doctor Villarreal, he was seriously talking to a doctor. He stared at the female doctor for a moment, earlier while they were inside the operating room and while they were operating on the patient, she was calm as if it was no problem whatever was happening.
He looked away when he looked in her direction, he didn't know but his heart beat differently every time they looked at each other.
...
He was about to leave but because one of the doctors he knew talked to him he stopped, while talking he felt that someone was looking at him so when he looked to his side he caught the male intern looking at him but when he saw that he was smiling he immediately looked away, frowning.
He just looked back at the other person before saying goodbye. He didn't have time to talk or chat, he had a lot to attend to.
He looked at his watch, it was already three in the afternoon. The operation took more than three hours.
He sighed before adjusting the scrub suits he was wearing, he had to get dressed before going to the ward to check on the patients named after him.
...
When he finished all the work at the hospital, he was ready to leave but when he opened the door, he almost jumped in shock and his eyes widened looking at the person outside the door.
"What are you doing there?!" he asked while holding his own chest, why is it that when he opened the door Russel appeared to him as if he was about to knock but because he opened the door his hand was left in the air and add to that the fact that he was standing straight causing him to be surprised to see it.
"Waiting for you?" he answered her questioningly.
"Tsk, what do you need?" he asked in a lifeless voice and closed the door, he started to walk away and she walked with him.
"Let's hang out? It's my treat." he said while trying to look at her, he stopped walking and looked at her.
"And why?" he asked.
"Hmm, because you help me?" he asked again.
Both of his eyebrows met. "Will you please answer me an answer not a question."
"Okay, let's hang out? I'm free because you helped me earlier," he answered her quickly while smiling, but he wasn't sure if it was a smile or a grimace.
He looked at it for a moment. "No thanks, I have something else to take care of."
Russel's face crumpled. "Please? I want to free you because you helped me. Because of you I didn't fail."
"I didn't help you." she said briefly before continuing to walk but the man was being naughty because he continued to follow her.
"You help me, you gave me a courage to face my fear. Please? Where do you want to eat? Let's go there," he grumbled as he walked.
He sighed. He doesn't like being loud and naughty and for this man to stop, he will give it to him. "Okay, as long as I choose where we eat."
Russel immediately smiled because of what he said. "Sure, okay. Where are we going to eat?" he asked her with a smile, the smile never disappearing from her lips.
He didn't know but every time he saw her smile he felt better.
...
"I thought you would bring me to an expensive and luxurious restaurant?" he asked with a grimace and his face couldn't be painted either.
He grinned and shrugged his shoulders, this was the blessing of the person forcing him. "Did I also think I would be the one to choose?"
The man's face crumpled even more because of what he said and looked back in front of them. There is no problem with what he brought here.
They are in front of a decent grill and food market, no problem there right?
"But I'll pay, why don't we just-," he didn't let the man finish speaking.
"If you want to go to another restaurant, go there. Be alone." he looked at her and widened his eyes, she smiled again and ended up grimacing he just ignored her and walked to where the empanada stall was, that's what he wanted to buy and eat. Appetizing and delicious.
The man followed him. "What's that called?" it is specific to food.
His brow furrowed. "You don't know? Are you a mountain person? It's called an empanada."
"Empanada? It is my first time to hear that name. Is it delicious? Why is it orange?" he asked one after the other while looking at the empanada displayed in front of the stall.
The people close to them were looking at them, except that they were dressed as if they were going to a business meeting, they looked like they were from the mountains when they talked and that was the fault of the man next to him.
"Yes, that's delicious, isn't it? Can you shut your mouth, it's embarrassing. People are looking at us!" he weakly dropped it. "Are you going to buy it or not?" he asked softly but the emphasis was there. Russel seemed startled, swallowed and nodded in response.
He turned his back and faced the empanada seller. "Two empanadas and two waters, thank you." he said while looking at the near crispy empanada.
He looked back at Russel who was now also looking at the empanada being cooked. "Let's find a location there," he said and sniffed the banks not far in their direction. "I'll take it, I'll follow you."
He nodded in response to her, he turned his back and was about to walk away to find a location when he immediately called her and stopped her. "Hep-hep!"
"What?" he asked her.
"That payment? I thought you were the one to pay? Hey, why are you leaving me without giving me money to pay?" He raised an eyebrow and held out his palm to the man.
"Oh, sorry I forgot," he scratched his cheek before taking his wallet out of his pocket. Krist crossed both arms across his chest while waiting for him to pay but his eyes literally widened when he handed him the black card.
"Black card? Can I get that?" he asked with a smile.
"Use this, I don't have cash to pay." this answer made him wince.
"I can't use that to pay, we're outside the mall and they don't accept credit cards." he made him understand and forced him to return the issued black card to his wallet.
He snorted and put the black card back in his wallet. "I can't give you a cash, I don't have anything to spare. I told you we should just go to the restaurant and we can use it."
He closed his eyes tightly because of what he was saying. "Alright, let's find a place to take care of me," he said apologetically.
He scratched his head before nodding at her and walking away. He waited for the empanada they bought to be cooked.
When it was cooked, they put it in the bag before handing it to him, he gave the payment after receiving it along with the bottled water that was bought.
He started walking and it was not difficult for him to find where the man's chosen place was because he saw it immediately. He was so stupid that he didn't immediately notice her coming when he put the food on the wooden table, that's when he got her attention.
She didn't know but she went with this man even though it was just over a week since she met him.
"Is that really good?" he asked her.
"It's delicious, why don't you try it?" he challenged her, he took it and blew it, Russel imitated him, he also took an empanada and blew it. He took the ketchup and put a little on the empanada which Russel immediately imitated.
He brought the empanada closer to his mouth but before he took a bite he closed his eyes for a moment to thank and pray. When he opened his eyes, he bit into the empanada, while chewing it, he looked at Russel with his mouth slightly agape as he stared at him.
"What?" he asked. He shook his head and looked away before biting into his own empanada, noticing that he was stunned before biting again. "That's what I'm telling you, isn't it delicious?"
He nodded to him as an answer, he didn't know but he smiled on his own.
They were both silent while Russel spoke. "Doctor-," he cut her off.
"Oh please, don't call me doctor when we're out," he interrupted and took a drink of water.
"Okay. Kristine-," he cut her off again.
"Krist will do, Kristine is too long," he interrupted again causing her to laugh weakly.
"I want Kristine," he insists. "Anyway, how old are you? Are we the same age?"
"I'm 27 years of age, are you?" he asked back here. He noticed that she was slightly stunned.
"Ah, I'm just 24 years old." His soft voice answered just enough for her to hear, she was slightly stunned. 24 years old?!
There was a moment of silence between them both when he spoke. "Where did you come from? What are you like about the Hernandez?" a puzzle for him as to who it really is.
It sighed. "Really? You don't know me?" He seemed surprised to ask her, causing both of his eyebrows to meet.
"I just know you by your name," he replied curtly. "So what do you think of the Hernandez?"
It sighed. "They are my family. My father was the executive director while my mother was vice chairman and my grand father was a Chairman and last but not the least is my older brother who is also known as a great doctor." there was a small smile on his lips but he didn't know if that smile was happiness or sadness.
"You are the youngest grandson of Chairman Hernandez?" His mouth opened slightly and he laughed softly, he couldn't believe it.
"Hmm, yes." he answered and got down on the table while looking at her.
"They are all good doctors, how come you are afraid of such a thing? What's with your hand?" he asked, knowing that all the Hernandez's are good in the field of medical profession but how can this one be afraid?
"I don't know what's with my hand. It's always shaking and I'm always overcome by fear and let me tell you something, I don't know how to stitch." he frowned at the last words, he could feel the sadness in his voice but he couldn't help but laugh.
He winced at her because of her laughter. "Sorry, okay? It's just that I can't help my self not to laugh. Why don't you practice your self? Why don't you try training?"
"I already did and you won't want to see my stitching, if I do it to the patient I operated on, the stitching will just get tangled," he said in a low voice.
He sighed at what he said. "First you are afraid of a lot of blood, secondly you can't hold a scalpel because you are shaking, thirdly you don't know how to sew and lastly you don't really know how to do the work of a doctor and because you are afraid ." he said bluntly and his four fingers were barely raised, the man's face became more wrinkled because of what he said.
"You're so harsh to me," he complained to her and leaned both elbows on the table and placed both hands on his cheek.
"Just pretending," he answered indifferently. "What you did earlier as my assistant doctor was nothing, so don't be happy with that. Don't be satisfied with just that, if you really want to conquer your fear and to become a great doctor then dream high."
His snout grew longer. "Even if I dream like that it's still not enough to fight my weakness."
He shook his head at this. "Do you have a dedication to becoming a doctor?" he asked, Russel quickly nodded in response to him.
He smiled. "That's good. Do you exercise?" he asked again, the man winced at his question before shaking his head. "Tsk, tomorrow you wake up early to exercise and I want you to go to the hospital before seven in the morning. Is that clear?"
Russel's eyes widened at what he heard and blinked as he looked at her. "Excuse me?"
"I know you heard me, I don't repeat my words." he said and stood up from sitting.
"But-," he cut her off.
"There's no but-but for me Russel, no one disobeys my order and I don't accept excuses. That's an order from your senior doctor and you can't disobey me." he said and winked at it.
