Chapter 5

Ashley sat in the garden with a book helled in her hand while she stared into space. She just finish reading a popular novel by one of her favorite writers. ( his substituted bride).

Her mind drifted to the incident that happened a while ago and an unknown feeling of guilt flushed through her. She needs someone to talk to, who is Rex to Kai? Are they friends? Those questions kept playing in her head.

A familiar Cologne griped her nostril but she did well by ignoring and acting like she didn't know Rex was standing next to her.

Standing at the back of his room he sighted Ashley in the garden. As much as he wanted to stay here and avoid trouble his troubling mind won't let him stay at peace, he stormed out of the room and took the lead to the garden after which he descended the stairs.

Walking closer to her, the curiosity in him increased the most, he thought she loved him, he thought there promised each other forever, why the sudden change of plan?

Standing by her right, he watched as she stared into space and acted like she didn't know he was standing there. His heart tightened in pain as tears burnt the back of his eyes, now he knows why she was ignoring his calls that night.

"I thought you promised me forever?" he inquired with pain echoing in his voice and Ashley turned to stare at him.

She stared at him and anger gripped her, was he asking her those questions? when he left for Canada just so he could go and be with his woman. Thinking about that picture her heart tightened in pain.

"There were fake promises" she whispered coldly, but behind the cold voice lies a broken heart. Those words shattered him into pieces the moment she voiced them to him and he scoffed trying so hard to hide the pain in his voice.

"How did you get to meet my brother?" he inquired and Ashley scoffed, trying so hard not to break down nor show him the affectionate side of her. So Rex is Kai's younger brother. What a mees.

"The last time I checked we no longer have possession over each other. You have no right whatsoever, "she replied trying so much to sound disgusted but Rex scoffed, knowing well that she was faking everything

"Tell me what prompt you into marrying my brother?" he gripped her hands and half yelled with a mixture of pain and anger resounding in his voice. Ashley tried to let lose of her hands but his grip around her hand was too tight

"Answer me" he yelled "why did you leave me for my brother.

"Because I never loved you" she screamed and her heart sheltered. She never planned for all this to happen. She was willing to fly out with him, not until she saw those videos. Rex stared at Ashley looking confused. His heart stiffened in pain as those words played simultaneously in his head. Those words eat him up as tears rolled out of the right corner of his eyes. He doesn't have the ability to stay strong again. Ashley's heart stiffened. She never prayer for a day like this.She has always wished to spend the rest of her life with this man, but she guess fate was against what they had.

Kai watched the Scene from afar, he has also been curious to know what was happening between them. He began to gesture towards the garden after getting a hint of what the problem was.

"I've told you to stay away from my woman!why are you here with her?" he exaggerated and Rex scoffed .

"She is not your woman, she is the love of my life!" he yelled, and Kia smacked

"How pathetic. Now listen to me clearly, I don't care what you had with her before now. But the lady standing here is now my wife so you have no right whatsoever" he pulled her closer to himself and Ashley sighs despondently as her heart ache. She can handle punishing Rex for what he did to her but she can't handle seeing two brothers against each other because of her.

"I'm sorry Rex, but you don't have any right over me I'm married to Kai now and I want you to stay away from me, for the peace of everyone" with that Kai held her hands and they both walked out of the garden leaving Rex completely speechless.

Ashley's heart tightened in pain as she tried so hard to control the tears that burnt the back of her eyes. But one thing was not making sense to her. Why was Kai acting nice, he was against this marriage before now why the sudden change of attitude.

After entering the room, Ashley changed into something light and decided to take a nap but her plans was distrupted by Kai's words.

"How did you know my brother?"he inquired with his gaze fixed on her and Ashley gulped down nothing.

"He was my boyfriend"she managed to say and Kia scoffed.

"You had a boyfriend but you were sleeping around with men in the club"he replied disgustingly and Ashley yelled.

"I'm, I'm not a call girl" she yelled bitterly and tears came rolling down her cheeks. She was expecting him to say this but she wasn't expecting it to get to her this way.

Kia's heart melted as he watched the tears roll out of her eyes. He could see the sincerity written all over her eyes. He heaved a huge sighs and stood up gesturing towards her.
