Chapter 5 New position

She took a look, when already at home, at the marriage certificate. Along with it, Cassius gave her a small box with a wedding ring.

"Hernan Ronald Allaband." She read, smiling. She fought the urge to google him. "No, he wanted this to be secrecy and I'll respect that."

The night was filled with dreams and nightmares of babies and contracts, money flying, and Danika woke up exhausted. She showered, made breakfast, and got ready to wait for Cassius.

As they sat in the waiting room, Danika saw a man in a wheelchair coming out of another room. He was the most beautiful person she had ever seen in her life. Dark hair, very piercing blue eyes. The perfect features, lips not too full and not too thin, the jawline very masculine. His arms were very strong, even though his chair was powered. And his legs, incredibly, didn't seem to lack working muscles.

'He is quite perfect, I would say...' Danika thought, butting her lips.

Their eyes met and for a moment, Danika felt connected to the man. He gave her a slight smile and winked. It almost melted her heart.

Cassius sensed her interest in the man and he smiled faintly, amused. When his boss winked, he was flabbergasted. Hernan Allaband didn't flirt with just anybody. Of course, even though Danika was ignorant to the fact that that man was her husband... Mr. Allaband knew and... 'Maybe he liked her'.

After the procedure, she was feeling weird.

"Mr. Banks, I just need to go get some coffee.. is that ok?"

"But of course, Mrs. Allaband." He said and let her go.

Danika went to those espresso machines and was waiting for the little cup to be filled.

'Gosh, it takes forever!', she thought.

She was getting impatient and took a step behind, just to move her body and relax a bit. Then, she just bumped into something and saw herself falling.

"Oh, goodness!" She said and when she looked down, she realized she was on top of someone. A wheelchair person. Raising her eyes to the person, she met icy blue eyes.

The man opened a smirk. He was the same man from before! The man she was almost gawking at!

"I came for some coffee and got more than I expected." He said and although Danika thought it was too sassy of him, she felt her cheeks burning with embarrassment. His stare..."Are you really in for a ride?" He asked maliciously and that was when she woke up and got up pretty fast.

"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to.." His voice was somewhat familiar and she thought about the man who she married, but then.., she turned the possibility down. This guy was in a wheelchair. Andhe was being all nice. Her 'husband' was completely different.

"I am not complaining now, am I?"

She opened her mouth to retort, but she didn't know what she was supposed to say.

"Anyway... I'm sorry for this..."

"It is ok. Just let me get some coffee.. "

"Hmmm sure!" She said, taking a step aside. "Is it cappuccino? If it is, you can have mine. As an apology."

"Hmmm." He said, took the cup and turned his wheelchair. Then, he winked at her. "Nice ring.."

She was mortified!

"Is everything ok, Mrs. Allaband?" Cassius asked. He had seen Hernan and their interaction. He was more than surprised, in a good way.

"Yes.. everything is perfect. May we go home?"

Danika just had to wait a few days to receive the results of the test and she was more than nervous. What if she was not pregnant? It was so uncomfortable to have received that thing inside her with his sperm.

'First time I have this kind of thing inside me, it is by an artificial way', she thought bitterly. 'Well, it could have been worse. He could have wanted to do it naturally and I would have my very first time with a complete stranger. In a dark room. Creepy'.

Meanwhile, Hernan was in a great mood. He was, just as Danika, very nervous. To all intents and purposes, he was a crippled man in a wheelchair, who could not have a child, due to his condition. Not that he ever said he was not... functional down there.

"Everything is going just as planned." He said to himself, alone in his office. Then, he remembered a certain redhead. She was there to receive his sperm, when he had just made his donation. She looked at him in a way he didn't expect. Since he had the accident, people, especially women, would look at him with pity. And then, when they interacted near the coffee machine. She was flirting with him.

Hernan became serious. She was flirting with him! She didn't know it was him, her husband! and yet, she was all blushing around him. He didn't even realize he was being jealous of himself.

A knock on the door brought him back to reality.

"Come in!" He said he was surprised to see someone who looked like him, but not the same.

"Brother!" Xandros said, with open arms and a big smile. "I have great news for you!"

His half younger brother entered the office as if he owned the place. In his head, it was almost the same, since he would be the CEO in no time.

"To what do I owe the honor of having you here, dear Xandros?" Hernan asked, sarcastically, putting his pen on the table.

Xandros opened the buttons of his tailored suit and sat on Hernan's desk, something he despised. He hated this kind of behavior.

"I came here to tell you that in two months, I'll receive a promotion!" Xandros said. "Aren't you happy for me, brother?"

"But of course I am. And what have you achieved? From a jerk project to evil's prototype?"

Xandros swallowed hard, his smile faltered a bit, but he would not let Hernan and his scid remarks get to him.

"You are just right!" He said. "I'll be sitting in that chair, with my name on the plate. 'CEO Xandros Allaband'. What do you think?"

Both siblings looked at one another's face, without uttering a word for a few moments, until Hernan smirked.

"Congrats, brother! But, may I ask you how did you achieve such a great position?"

"I am to be married soon, as you well know." Xandros said with malice. "And since I will be the one giving out bloodline continuation, it is only fit for me to start working as the head of this company. I must grow here and be respected for my work before I start making babies."

Xandros didn't like the grin on Hernan's face. He knew the man his whole life and so, he knew very well that Hernan always had a plan B and was not one to give up easily. But, in this scenario, Xandros had no idea how his brother could interfere with the family's decision.

"And why aren't you working at this very moment, brother? Don't you want to be respected by your own merits and not because you are an Allaband?"

Xandros got Hernan's pen and flickered it between his fingers.

"Well said, brother. I'll take my leave now. Have a wonderful day!"

As soon as Xandros left, Hernan called Cassius, who arrived in the office like a flash.

"Yes, sir?"

"Did you get the results of the test? Is my wife pregnant?"

"I am still waiting sir... " Cassius answered, anxiously.

"Call the lab and ask them directly. I must know right now!"

Cassius nodded and left the office, taking his phone from his pocket and making the phone call. They promised him they would give a proper answer in about an hour and Hernan, as much as he wanted answers immediately, he would have to wait.
