Chapter 6 The Contract I

Chapter Six

Lying on the floor was a femidom. How on earth did a female condom get into her bag?

Anna was dumbstruck. How was she supposed to explain to him that she wasn't the owner of the femidom? She wondered what was going on in his mind right now. She never imagined that this kind of thing would ever happen to her.

She must have taken Vannessa's bag by mistake. Vannessa and Anna have always liked to couple up. They had been friends for over eight years. Being an only child had its pros and cons. Anna had always wanted to have at least one sibling. She found this in Vannessa. They were more than friends, they were like sisters. They sometimes got the same kind of shoes, bags or bracelets.

"I- I- I don't- "

"Miss Houston, as a grown-up woman that you are, I don't see any reason why you should explain anything to me. Your sexual life is none of my business. But what I do find offensive is the fact that you're so clumsy that you dropped a femidom in my office. I don't care if it was a mistake. I dislike awkward and uncoordinated people. This is a work environment and I demand that you treat it as such. Are we clear?" He demanded with a harsh tone.

She slowly nodded her head in response, not daring to look into his eyes.

"Words, Miss Houston. Words!" He snapped.

"Yes."

"Good."

He called for the janitor and ordered him to come to clean his office. A young man who appeared to be in his early twenties came almost immediately to clean up the room.

"Follow me." He took Anna into the inner room of his office where they both sat while his office was being cleaned.

The room though smaller than his office still had a reasonable size. There were a loveseat and two other chairs in the room. It had a table made of ceramics which had a flower vase on it. The room was well decorated with lighting and plants which were standing alone on either side of the room.

"I must say that I wasn't expecting that you'd be here. I thought that you'd probably not show up because you can't handle the task but here you are. You even impressed me by coming right on time. I must commend you for that."

He took some documents from his breast pocket and handed them over to her with a pen.

"Here is the contract. Go through it and particularly pay attention to the terms and conditions. If you have any questions, let me know."

She picked up the document which was about ten to fifteen pages. The first page contained the personal information of the parties, Mr Alexander Justin Williams and Miss Anna Houston.

Anna glanced at an expressionless Mr Williams briefly before she continued checking the documents. She wondered if the name "Justin" was a good fit for him. He looked more like a John to her.

Alexander just watched her as she went through the document, with his head cocked to the left while his hand rested lazily on his head.

The next page contained the definition of certain terms like "personal assistant", "boss" and other terms. She paused when she saw the definition of the term "errand" which was defined "as any task, work, or duty in particular party A, Mr Williams demands of Party B, Miss Houston."

"Uhm...I have a question."

"Go ahead." He said authoritatively.

"You mentioned here that an errand is any task at all that you demand of me. I'd prefer it if you could specify what exactly I would be doing. The thing is, I don't- "

"Trust me, you have nothing to worry about. You have my word that there would be no errand I would ask of you that would be too tasking or difficult for you to do." He nodded.

It seemed as though this billionaire had the habit of cutting people short when they spoke. She couldn't count the number of times that he had done this since they met.

She flipped through the pages and froze when she saw the length of the contract. It was a long-term contract of two years.

"I- I- I thought I would be your personal assistant only till I can pay you your money back in full. I thought that would be about a year or even less than a year. Why does it say two years here? Will it take two years for me to earn that kind of money?" She asked, staring at him will dilated eyes.

He looked at her with scrutiny for a while as though he was thinking of how to communicate what he wanted to say to her. Anna saw something like hesitation in his eyes which went as soon as it came, making her wonder if it was just her imagination. His face was once again unreadable.

"Usually in BrooksWill and Sons, the minimum length of this contract is five years, as long as my personal assistant does her job well. I gave you special consideration because your case is quite different.

Also, if you read ahead, you'll see that you should be able to finish paying your debt to me after a year and six months. You can choose to leave after a full year and six months. You are not required to continue working after the other half of the second year. It's optional.

If you however continue regardless, it becomes mandatory for you to complete the five years. That would mean that you would be working as my personal assistant for three more years."

She nodded, taking in everything he was saying like a child.

"So, it's up to you to choose what you want, Miss Houston."

She continued reading and stopped when she reached the section for "breach and termination of the agreement".

The third clause in the section caught her attention. It reads, "The contract is hereby terminated if Party B fails to maintain the relationship required of her to Party B. On no account must Party B fall in love with Party A. The contract shall cease to be in effect where this happens."

"You should check the third clause under Termination and Agreement", Xander said in a very serious tone. He moved closer to her, his face almost in hers.

"I can be very irresistible. In all you do, ensure that you do not fall in love with me. If you do, the contract will come to an end. Understood?"

Xander raised his brows in anticipation of an answer.

"Trust me, that will only happen if you cease to be Mr Alexander Justin Williams."

He simply nodded and added. "Good. I'm glad that we are on the same page."
