Chapter 5 Never have I ever

Chapter Five

Anna's alarm chimed, disrupting the calm after the storm. She'd barely had enough sleep the previous night, as her thoughts were clouded with her mother's health condition and of course, the mystery man. Right! The mystery man! She had an appointment with him at his office today.

She hurriedly checked her clock and saw that it was exactly 9:00 am. She jumped from her bed the moment she remembered his words which replayed in her head very clearly, *"Time is exactly 10:00 am in my office, Miss Houston, I hate lateness. If you come in a minute later than ten, forget about the contract."*

Just then, her doorbell rang. Anna wasn't expecting any visitor, so she wasn't sure who it could be. She headed for the door and almost screamed when she saw that it was Vannessa, her best friend. She had told her a few days ago that she would be coming over but Anna hadn't expected it to be this soon.

"Oh my! Nessa! It's so good to see you! This is such a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect that you would be coming this soon." She exclaimed, giving her best friend a big hug.

"You could say that again. After all, I'm the-full-of-surprises-Nessa." She gloated.

"I'm so sorry Nessa, I have an appointment today. I'd say that this is bad timing because I hate to leave you like this but I must really hurry. I'll give you all the juicy details later."

"It's alright as long as you don't leave out any detail on what you have been doing lately." She teased, raising her brows mischievously.

"Once a Nessa, always a Nessa". With that, scampering immediately into the bathroom with her legs almost in the air.

In less than forty minutes, Anna was out of her apartment. She'd made a firm decision to make a good impression on her first day. She pondered on what the contract could contain. The man wouldn't tell her to run frivolous errands like buying groceries for him or cooking for him. She'd heard stories of rich men who make their personal assistants run very mundane errands. I am couldn't be that callous, could he? She must have said those words out loud because the driver immediately turned towards her, shaking his head in disbelief. The poor man probably thought that she had some mental aberration.

She reached for her cell phone and Google searched, "Duties of a personal assistant". Her eyes scanned the content and she froze the moment she saw "run errands AS REQUESTED". She just hoped that his requests wouldn't be something outlandish.

"We're here ma'am".

The driver said, pulling over at an almost larger-than-life building. Anna's jaw dropped the moment she saw the building. She was stupefied by the sight before her which could not be described as "beautiful" as the word is an understatement.

The building wasn't the typical skyscraper kind. It was curvy like those curves drawn in a graph book which were used to solve simultaneous equations. The entire building had wave-like shapes on its surface which made it look like some parts of the building were sweeping the marble-like floor. Never had she seen any building as exceptional as Brookswill and Sons Limited. If there was something to describe the company, it was the word- perfect. The lighting appeared very appealing to the eyes, leaving Anna to wonder just how beautiful the building would look at night.

As she walked closer to the building, she was conscious of her movements, afraid that the delicately looking floor would break if she stomped her feet on it.

Just then, her phone chimed, notifying her that it was 9:50 am.

She immediately closed her eyes and muttered a few words of prayer before running swiftly into the building. Luckily for her, she met the receptionist who directed her to the CEO's office. She kept checking the time now and then as she made her way to the elevator, hoping that she would make it in time.

When she eventually arrived at Mr Williams' office, she held her breath before knocking. She waited for a while and decided to knock again when she got no response. However, the door creaked open the moment her hand was in mid-air. Anna walked into the office and met Mr Williams sitting lazily on his chair, his hand resting on his head while tapping his fingers repeatedly on his desk.

She wondered if he was waiting for her or if that was just one of his random gestures. Before she could announce her presence, her phone chimed again very loudly, notifying her that the time was exactly 10:00 am. Anna clumsily searched for the phone and dismissed the alarm which announced her. She silently prayed for the ground to swallow her as she apologised to Mr Williams, who was clearly not having any of it. His ice-cold eyes bore into hers as he narrowed his gaze at her, creasing his forehead. Anna knew that she had messed up with the look in those dangerous eyes of his.

"What exactly do you take my office for, Miss Houston?"

Mr William asked, eyeing Anna with those menacing eyes of his, his expression unreadable.

"I- I- I'm so sorry Mr Williams, I didn't mean- I- I completely forgot about my alarm. I should have turned it off. It wouldn't happen again." She said, pleading with the puppy dog eyes look.

Mr Williams exhaled before rising from his seat. He walked closer to her and stopped just about a meter before her. Anna's heart was thumping loud in her chest as those piercing eyes of his gazed at her.

"How much longer will you stand here for before you remove "that thing" around your feet from my office?"

He asked with his arms crossed, his eyes never leaving hers.

Anna blinked, wondering what he meant by "that thing". She took a few steps back and looked down at her feet with a puzzled look. The moment she saw what he was talking about, her eyes flew open in astonishment. Her mouth gaped in surprise and she could feel her cheek go red hot from embarrassment. Never had she felt so embarrassed.

Lying on the floor was a femidom. How on earth did a female condom get into her bag?
