Chapter 5 Those Eyes

Sabrina ran to the burial ground just as the coffin was about to be lowered into the ground.

"She is here"

"Sabrina is here"

"Why did she come so late? I thought she was not going to come back"

She heard different comments from the people there.

It did not even seem like any of them was sad about the death of her father. It just seemed like they were there because they had to be there.

Sabrina's steps had slowed down as she took slow steps to get father's coffin with fresh tears welling up in her eyes.

She got to the coffin and broke down beside the coffin. She hugged the wooden coffin, crying out loud.

She was really alone now, she really had no family now.

Now she was regretting not having spent time with her father for the past 14 years, she regretted not calling him more, not talking to him more.

Now, he was gone and she would never have the opportunity to hear his voice and once he was let into that grave, she would no longer see his face just like he could not see the face of Jake and her mother anymore.

"Sabrina" Derrick called and held her by her shoulders, trying to comfort her.

"It's okay. You have us"

Sabrina sobbed against him.

"Derrick, open the coffin, I want to see his face one more time" she requested and Derrick looked at one of the men there, motioning him to do so.

The man moved towards the coffin and opened it. There was the body of her father, lying motionless in the casket.

Sabrina cried more with Derrick trying more and more to comfort her and put her at peace.

"It is time to send him into the grave" one of the elders announced and Derrick motioned the man who had opened the coffin to close it up.

The man closed it and the act of lowering the coffin into the grave began. Sabrina cries got louder as they did so.

Derrick held her back, wrapping his arms around her shoulder.

"It's fine. We will be here for you"

About half an hour had passed.

Sabrina was sitting on a bench, tears still quietly rolling down her cheeks. She made no noise as she cried her loss.

"Sabrina" she heard an elderly woman call and she looked up at the woman, giving the woman a smile that she forced out.

"Ma'am" she could not remember the woman's name but she knew she used to see the woman back then when she still said in Australia.

"Sabrina, I understand very well how much this has affected you. Your father was your only relative after all" the woman started and sat on the bench beside her.

"But he is gone and he can not be brought back to life"

"How... How did he die?" Sabrina asked.

"Contrary to what you are thinking, the wolves didn't kill him directly" the old woman replied.

"Didn't kill him directly? But indirectly, right?" She asked and the woman sighed, knowing how much Sabrina was against their whole activities of hunting down wolves.

"Your father was mapping out a plan to get rid of as many wolves as we can in this town when he died. He died of the stress and fatigue"

Sabrina nodded with pressed lips.

"It is so sad but yet honorable that he died while upholding our cause" the woman remarked.

"What silly cause?" Sabrina mumbled, raising her face up to stop more tears from rolling down.

"Our cause is not a silly one. Our cause is to make the world a better and safer place for all of us and other humans. As long as the wolves exist, we won't have that safe world"

"Really?" Sabrina asked.

"Yes, Sabrina and I think it is time for you to take on to the greatest wish of your father and the wish of every other wolf hunter here" the woman replied and Sabrina smiled, a smile she gave to try to hold back her anger at the old woman in front of her.

"You know what that wish is" the woman mumbled and took Sabrina's hands into her own.

"He is dead but we are not and the wolves are not dead too. You have to take on your father's post and lead us to victory against the wolves" The older woman caressed her hands gently.

"You want me to do what led all of my family to their death?" Sabrina asked.

"That is not it, Sabrina. You need to..."

"I need to do what? I just want to be a normal human" Sabrina took her hands away from the older woman's hands and was about to go on speaking when another man approached her.

The man looked like he was in his early fifties.

"Sabrina" the man called.

"Uncle" Sabrina called him respectfully.

He was the younger brother of her father.

"I heard what Mrs. Smith was saying to you and you know that is what you are supposed to do and that is what you are going to do"

"Really, Uncle? What if I do not want to?" She got off the bench.

"What if I do not want to get myself involved in all of these things that you guys do?" She asked, her voice getting raised in annoyance and anger.

"You have to. Even your father did not want to back then but he had to, you can not leave your duties"

"Why do I need to take onto a duty that I do not want?" Sabrina asked her uncle.

"Because..."

"Because it is in my family line, ugh?" She asked him.

"Calm down and listen to us" Mrs. Smith tried to talk.

"No, I am not going to calm down. How can you two even talk about this right now? My father just died days ago and we just buried him! Do you two even think of how I am feeling right now? Do you two even ever took my father as a friend, as a family? You... You are talking of me being a new leader like one changes a phone when it gets ruined!"

"Of course we did take your father as a friend and family but still yet duties must be taken on...."

"I won't take on to any silly duties!" She yelled at them and then came to realization.

"Yes, a pregnant woman can not be made the leader until she gives birth, right? Then I am going to do that, I am going to get pregnant! And within those nine months, you all would find someone for that position because I am never going to take on to that damned position that took all of my family away from me!!" She yelled at them and ran away from there, leaving her uncle and Mrs. Smith a little bit shaken by her attitude and outburst.

"She would have to give in eventually"

Sabrina ran, with tears blinding her vision. She was not the only one filled with water, the skies were also filled with water and she knew it was going to pour soon.

She ran towards her car, opened the door and jumped into the car.

"What the..." She heard a deep masculine voice cuss as she shut the door of the car.

That was when it dawned on her that she was not in the right car. She turned towards the man in the car to apologize but as soon as she looked into his eyes, there was something inside those glowing, mesmerizing eyes.

Eyes that looked familiar and yet distant.

"Your... Your eyes"
