Chapter 4 DID YOU SHOOT ME

"This is Prince Ash, the Young Leader of the Kranio" Doctor Mera introduced skeptically. She didn't know why Prince Ash would want her to introduce him as who he actually was - A criminal.

She could tell that the Prince was interested in this girl, while she didn't know if the two of them were familiar with each other before the girl's injury, she was certain that the wounded girl had nothing to do with criminals. And that certainty was because she was provided May's records by Grace. She knew May was nothing but the assistant of a business tycoon in Vharlad.

May turned to look in surprise at Prince Ash.

"Is that a gang or something?" she asked.

"Or something" Prince Ash replied with a small nod and May looked away again seemingly without care.

"These are my friends, Reign and Desmond" Prince Ash introduced the two people with him and stepped closer to May's bed.

"Do you remember anything at all about your accident?" Prince Ash asked curiously. He learned long ago from the Sallie that there was no way to take revenge on the man responsible for killing his men because of some sort of political reason. However, just a month ago, the Sallie again came to him with new information. There was hope! A way for him to take revenge for the men he lost and this girl was standing at the center of it all.

"No. Did you shoot me?" May asked a slight crease on her brows, the first expression she made since they walked in.

Prince Ash was stunned by the question. He remembered that the Sallie's love interest had also suspected him of the same thing. Was there something about him that made him appear suspicious to people? He was a criminal but to move around he couldn't wear that badge on his face.

"It's okay if you did. I can recall my memories in time according to Doctor Mera. I only lost a year, I'm not that old yet so it doesn't matter" May continued to talk.

"I didn't shoot you." Prince Ash replied, his expression ugly.

May didn't seem to notice that though as she continued her assumptions.

"I got caught in a shoot out between you and someone else then? They did it?"

"No. I had nothing to do with what happened to you. I don't know what happened to you" Prince Ash was forced to explain himself but his face didn't look too good still.

"Oh, well then thanks for saving me anyways. By chance do you happen to know my name?" May asked.

"May, your name is May" Prince Ash sighed as he replied. It seemed it was too early for him to come here. She needed more time to recover.

"May. That's not so good, my parents must have hated me" May muttered to herself stunning everyone in the room.

All of a sudden a feeling of profound sadness overwhelmed her and two drops of tears fell from her eyes.

"Why am I crying?" she muttered aloud and looked up at Doctor Mera as if expecting an explanation from her.

All of a sudden she passed out causing Doctor Mera and the two residents to hurriedly check up on her.

May had a dream. In this dream she walked into an office where a beautiful motherly looking woman was working behind a desk. When she heard someone entered, she raised her head and a beautiful smile appeared on her face.

"May, you are here, come on in" she beckoned and May walked in, closing the door behind her.

"Your office is beautiful" she commented after looking around at the office designs.

"My husband was just playing around" the smile on the lady's face blossomed brighter at those words.

"You have a baby? I didn't know you had a child" May noticed a photo lying flat on the table. In the photo was a tired version of the lady in a hospital bed and in her arms a beautiful baby.

"She's gone now" the lady hurriedly took the picture away and put it in a drawer, bitterness briefly flooding her face.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know?" May qucikly apologized.

"It's okay. It only takes one" the lady replied and all of a sudden blood splashed on May's clothing. In shock, May raised her head to see blood pouring out of a whole in the lady's chest but she seemed oblivious to it as she continued to smile. Not in a creepy way but with genuine happiness.

Words echoed in her ears as the world began to spin rapidly.

"It only takes one... takes one... takes one.

To... to... to life. Take a life. It only ta- kes one. Takes one" the words continued to repeat over and over again breaking in many places like a recording on a bad plate.

May who had fallen backwards on the bed opened her eyes with a start and silently stared at the light Doctor Mera was using to check her pupils.

Because May hadn't really opened her eyes (Doctor Mera held them open with her hand to check May's pupils), and May just stared straight ahead when she came so, Doctor Mera had no way to know that May was now conscious.

As May suddenly moved her pupils from the light to the concerned face of Doctor Mera, the poor lady screamed and leaped backwards in shock! She hadn't expected the sudden move from May at all.

"It only takes one" May muttered blankly.

"May? May!" Prince Ash called.

"Hmm?" May seemed to just remember that May was her name and she turned to Prince Ash in confusion wondering why he was screaming her name when they were so close to each other in the same room.

"You passed out for a second there" Prince Ash explained frowning with concern. Was she really going to be okay? He wondered.

"I think I may have recalled something but it's a very vague memory. Can I get a pen and a pad to write it down?" May asked sitting upright.
