Chapter 5 An unwanted visitor

The sound of my dog barking woke me up.I stretched my body clumsily pushing and falling off books and the lamp on the stool.Looked up towards the clock on the wall again. It was blurry. Or maybe I was just the one being dizzy.

I rubbed my eyes hoping it got a bit clearer. My kind of sleep doesn't gets me energized. it just leaves me tired as it met me.I looked up at the time telling device stationed on the wall again as saw it clearly. 5:38.

Reluctantly letting myself off the bed, taking my steps gently towards the dog who was barking woke me up.He was voicing out at whatever was behind the door.Using one leg to drive him away from the door behind me.I relayed my whole weight on the door.

"Who's there" I asked

"I swear to God Wilson, If you don't open this door right now,I will.." The voice came over behind the door.

I opened the door swiftly before he could finish his sentence cutting him off.He wore a very pissed off look and he looked fancy at the same time. His outfit obviously showed he put too much effort into what he was wearing. And the smell of the overpriced cologne he wore striked me suffocatingly.

He pushed me out of his way. Barging into my home without any sense of caution or formality.

"I,Victor Kingston the third, took my precious time to send you the work I did so you could download it into your brain and did not get a decent appreciation of a thank you" he let out angrily reaching out to the refrigerator taking out a bottled water.

"Well I didn't see it, I haven't been on my phone for a while" I replied clumsily, trying to regain my balance.

"Of course you didn't cause if you did you would have seen the 7 missed calls I left you right before waiting for you on your doorstep" He interrupted not as angry as he was initially stretching out his phone to my face.

"Huh..7" I jokingly let out straining my eyes towards the brightness of his phone.Pretending not to see it.

"Yes! Seven!" He said free landing himself back to the couch landing on his butt.

"You need a life son,one without me in it" I replied teasingly, picking up the objects that fell earlier on my way to the door.

"So what do you think of my outfit and why are you still wearing what you wore to school. It's nothing personal man, but you look very derelict" he asked gesturing his finger to me moving it up and down indicating from my head to my feet.

"You know, maybe I just feel really comfortable in this" I added putting up the things I picked in their right positions back.

"Well then,I guess we are set for the party"

"What party is that exactly?" I asked nonchalantly.

"What do you mean what party?, the one the rich spoilt girls who probably don't even need the education they are getting are throwing this evening" he said making random movement with his hands.

"I never said you I was going to the party Vic" I replied moving to and fro pulling off my trousers.

"But you never said you were not going to the party either so i just assumed it was one of the times you wanted me to assume your response and act accordingly, which is what I did" He rushed before taking another gulp of water from the bottle he forcefully swallowed.

"Well it isn't one of those times Vic, So please grab yourself a bag of chips. The movie is about to start. And spoiler, It's not a Picard"I answered intentionally not facing him sitting in my underwear shorts. The Television went off in an instant. It was victor and he was holding out the plug of the TV,dropping it slowly and dramatically.

"Allow me to educate you briefly on the history importance of parties. I cannot watch you sit here and waste your life over fictional characters.I would have failed as a friend" he said crossing his leg and putting on the lamp on the wooden stool beside him where he sat. Hoping to cause a scene.

"You see, parties is where the whole fun that couldn't happen at school happens. The rumours are born, the break ups are done and hopefully if you say your lines right you successfully land one of them baddies. It is the spot where gangs are created based of shared interests and bonds are broken cause of the pettiest of things. You could get high, get laid or get wasted and it is entirely up to you to play your cards Wilson" He said slowly like something he copied from a movie interlocking his fingers.

"So what does that have to do with anything?" I asked insightfully with an eye brow above the other.

"All I'm saying is its a chance for us to get into the game, get out social lives revived ,if you know what I mean" He answered.

"People like us don't belong there Vic, Don't make this harder than it already is for me" I let out grudgingly.

"Oh no no!.Don't make it harder than it already is for me. Because trust me,this was not my intended course of action.Things could have gotten a whole lot messier." He replied in a haste leaving forward with a scowl.

"Okay. You know what? Fine. You know what,I think you made your point, and you made it clearly. We are going to go to that party and get our lives fixed up socially" I declared standing of the couch sofa to put some sort of emphasis on my words.Funny how I didn't actually feel forced to even make that decision.

We raced in towards my wardrobe of clothes in my room enthusiastic like children who had just been inspired on the new dress up they wanted to play. Something I deemed free and comfortable not as flashy as Victor wore but not as dim as someone with my taste of fashion.

Buckles ran directly after us towards conscious of the energy in the air, benigned and delighted, his tongue out and hoping around in random movements as we chose what would be decent and deemed fit for a party such as Abby's.

Getting out of the taxi to the humongous cage like gate supported by thick ancient like blocks for a fence before us.It was the address that Abby had left out on her snap story for the lot who have never been there before. But trust me, We all knew where it was.

The mansion looked like it had been a home for decade upon decade, and a small world unto itself.Maybe it was a reason everyone turns their head to watch Abby walk pass, when your name is on a million lips, it is your world and that amount of space is necessary because its all the space you have to exist as the real and vulnerable version of someone like Abby.

Nestled in the woodland, as humble as any rock face in these parts, was a mansion. It's windows were as shy eyes, large to welcome any ray of moonlight. The rock walls belonged right where it was, as if per chance it had grown up right from that hallowed ground. It was as if it had been called into existence to protect those who came to dwell within, to quell the elements and allowed the cold to build from hearths into the inhaled woodland air.
