Chapter 4 Cheryl's Childhood Sweetheart

She immediately reached out and snatched the document pouch out of Jarred's hand.

A hint of surprise flashed in Jarred's eyes.

He turned to look at her questioningly.

Jarred's eyes were, simply put, beautiful. There was an indescribable deepness to his eyes, as though there was a deep tenderness hidden behind the dark curtains, which had always fascinated Cheryl.

But this time around, Cheryl forced herself to look away from his tantalizing gaze and walked out of the room with the document.

Although she hated to admit it, it seemed their marriage was coming to an end.

Cheryl was about to lose her beloved Jarred.

But she refused to lose her child.

Cheryl retreated to the secondary bedroom alone.

But Jarred didn't follow her.

Cheryl leaned against the wall, slid to the floor, and hugged her knees. She rocked back and forth on the carpet like a soulless puppet.

After a while, she heard the sound of a car starting.

Cheryl touched her belly and tried hard to control her impulse to run after Jarred.

"My baby, your father has left me for another woman. What should I do?" Cheryl murmured with tears in her eyes.

The next day, it was morning by the time Jarred went back to River Villa.

His posture was still straight, but the exhaustion on his face was undeniable.

As soon as Jarred stepped foot on the stairs, a pair of bare feet came into his view. The dark brown hardwood floor made Cheryl's fair toes stand out more, making them look more attractive.

Slowly, his gaze moved upward.

When his eyes landed on Cheryl's face, he guessed that she had just woken up, for she looked sleepy.

She was still wearing a soft silk slip and her head was innocently tilted to the side. She looked pure yet sexy and ravishing. All the tiredness was wiped from Jarred's eyes and was replaced with a look of desire.

"Don't walk around barefoot," Jarred said in a low voice.

He stepped forward and was about to scoop Cheryl into his arms as usual, but Cheryl coldly swatted his hand away.

She looked him up and down and sneered coldly.

He was still wearing his clothes from yesterday, which meant that he had spent the night with Ines! When she thought of this, her heart was crushed. She blurted out angrily, "When will you give me the divorce papers?"

Jarred's expression darkened.

A red palm print appeared on the back of his hand, which showed just how hard Cheryl had slapped him.

She had never been so cold to him in their three years of marriage. Now, it looked like she couldn't wait to divorce him. Wasn't this marriage worth fighting for?

Was it because Enoch was coming back?

If he hadn't overheard Cheryl talking with her best friend Sheila on the phone the day before yesterday, he wouldn't have known that his wife had loved another man for more than ten years and she still loved him till now.

This realization frustrated Jarred. Wasn't he good enough for her? Why didn't she ever stop loving that man?

The conversation Jarred heard at the door the day before yesterday resurfaced in his mind.

Sheila had asked, "It has been more than ten years. Why do you still love him so much?"

Then his wife had said in a voice so tender and gentle, "I want to love him now and forever-even until the end of my days."

He didn't dare to eavesdrop on their conversation any longer, nor did he dare to rush in and question her. For the first time, he fled his home like a coward.

After fleeing, he asked his assistant to find out who this man could be.

The investigation revealed that there really was a man who could have stolen his wife's heart.

He used to be Cheryl's neighbor. The two grew up together and had a deep friendship.

They had remained good friends until he went abroad to study.

The man's name was Enoch Sewell.

Thinking of this, Jarred narrowed his eyes fiercely.

"What's the rush? You can't wait to leave me and go to your childhood sweetheart? Is that it?"
