Chapter 3 She Couldn't Let Him Know That She Was Pregnant

Cheryl knew that although Jarred looked aloof, he wasn't a ruthless man. No matter how immersed he was in his lust, if she was uncomfortable, he would restrain himself and be tender to her.

Seeing that the document pouch was about to be opened, Cheryl nervously clenched her fists so tightly that her fingernails dug into her palms.

"Ping!" A shrill ringtone interrupted them at that critical moment.

It was Jarred's phone. His number was kept under wraps, and very few people had the privilege of knowing it.

Sure enough, Jarred stopped what he was doing and answered the phone first.

So answering this phone was more important than everything, right? Cheryl released her clenched fists.

"Hello?" Holding the document pouch in his hand, Jarred answered the phone in an indifferent tone.

"Mr. Fuller, Miss Sampson's on the balcony and she refuses to come inside. She's also in a bad mood."

The caller was a maid who took care of Ines. Her tone was very serious.

"I'm worried that she's considering suicide."

Jarred's eyes instantly darkened. "Give her the phone."

"Yes, Mr. Fuller."

After a rustling sound, a sad, feminine voice sounded on the other end of the line.

"Jarred..."

"The wind is strong. Go inside now."

While Jarred might've been frowning, his tone of voice was gentle and tender.

"Ines, please be a good girl. For me."

Cheryl's heart dropped to her stomach as she heard this.

She couldn't even begin to describe how it felt to hear her husband coax another woman in front of her.

Cheryl smiled bitterly. She felt like such a joke as she lay on the big bed, but she didn't have the strength to get up, as if a boulder weighing a ton was dropped on her chest.

They hadn't divorced yet, but Jarred already cared so deeply about another woman.

So what about Cheryl? What was she to Jarred?

Cheryl could no longer bear Jarred's ruthlessness.

She buried her face in her palms and her whole body trembled.

But Jarred didn't notice at all. His sole focus was on the sad woman on the other end of the line.

"Jarred, I'm sorry!

Saving my life was unnecessary! I can't have children anymore!

I can never have a child with you..."

Ines couldn't continue. She was too choked with sobs.

Hearing Ines crying, Jarred rubbed his aching temples. He had never even considered having a child with Ines. Even though he had decided to marry her now, it was only because she had saved his life before.

He tried to comfort her. "Don't worry. I've never thought about having a child."

"You... Don't lie to me... You're the CEO of the Fuller Group. How could you not have a successor?" Ines wailed.

"I don't even like children. Don't think too much. Now, be a good girl and go inside. Let the maid take care of you."

Jarred wanted to end the conversation as soon as possible. He still wanted to find out why Cheryl had gone to the hospital.

Unfortunately, he didn't catch the desperate look on Cheryl's face after he said that.

Cheryl had clung to the small hope that their marriage would be saved due to her pregnancy.

But now, she thought that she was so stupid!

If Jarred found out that she was pregnant, he might force her to have an abortion so as to protect Ines.

As she thought about this, Cheryl's heart sank. She couldn't let him know that she was pregnant!
