Chapter 6 Claud Is Scalded

Isabella felt that she had made the right choice when she accepted Norris as her boyfriend. He was gentle and considerate. Moreover, he always learned from his mistakes and knew how to comfort her.

"Isabella, I'm sorry. You must've waited for me for a long time last night, right?" Norris handed her a large bouquet of bright red roses.

Taking the flowers, she lowered her head and smelled them. They were pretty pleasant to her nose. "Of course! These roses are definitely not enough to dissipate my anger."

"How about I treat you to hot pot, barbecue, or even Thailand cuisines?"

"Well, then I'll think about it." Isabella smiled. Obviously, she wasn't angry anymore.

Norris held her in his arms. He gently stroked her long hair and said, "Isabella, you're the best!"

"Did you just realize that? I have always been a good woman!" she answered cheekily.

"Narcissistic!"

They didn't notice that there was a black car parked not too far away from them. Two people were sitting inside, and the headlights were turned off.

The man in the driver's seat asked indifferently, "See? This kind of person doesn't deserve you."

Frieda cried, "Claud, but I like him very much. What should I do?"

Claud took out a cigarette and gave it a sniff. "He doesn't belong to you..."

Frieda clenched her fists. Why was it Isabella again? How could she be so annoying?

Because of Norris' apology, Isabella was in a good mood.

The next day, she was woken up by the alarm clock. Isabella squinted and looked at the time. It was half past six. A brand new day. She had to get up to work.

A month ago, she successfully received her academic degree. She even managed to find a new job last week. Today was going to be her second day at work.

When it was thirty minutes past eight in the morning, Isabella carried a tray of tea cups toward the meeting room.

She was actually a designer in the company and hence, she was supposed to be in the design department. However, because of the head office's sudden inspection which left them flustered and short of hands, the department director asked her to help serve tea in the meeting room.

At this moment, several employees were standing by that door, looking at the situation inside. Isabella didn't pay attention to what they were talking about. The tea in the cups was too full that she was afraid it might spill out at any time. She dare not look away from the cups even if it was just for a brief second.

In the meeting room, there were only four people. Two of them were her superiors, two department directors from the company. Meanwhile, a man was sitting on the main seat, accompanied by his assistant at the side.

Walking in carefully, Isabella headed toward the main seat. Her eyes were fixed fully on the tea as well as the floor she was stepping on.

She breathed a silent sigh of relief when she was almost there. Lifting her head, she smiled and said, "Hello, please..."

The remaining words got stuck in her throat.

Flashing an aloof look at the startled woman, Claud didn't say anything.

"Isabella!" the director whispered to her, who was stunned in place.

"Oh! I... Ah!"

Isabella was snapped back to her senses immediately. However, her movements were too hasty that the tea spilled and splashed onto her hand. The tea was boiling hot. The heat burnt her skin and the entire tray was overturned.

Claud was the closest to her. When he realized what was going to happen, it was too late for him to dodge. The tea was spilled onto his legs.

"Isabella!" Claud stood up all of a sudden, and a huge part of his thin suit pants was drenched.

"I'm so sorry!" Isabella was in a complete daze. She didn't know what to do other than to apologize.

The director exclaimed, "Isabella! What are you doing?! Look at what you did to Mr. Lambert!"

"Mr. Lambert, are you okay?"

"Mr. Lambert..."

The whole meeting room was in a terrible mess.

It was only Isabella's second day at work, and she had ruined it by accidentally scalding Claud, the noble heir of GL Group, who was sent to the hospital immediately.

Claud wasn't looking good when he left the company, even though his scalds had been treated with a cold compress for the past ten minutes.

After being criticized by the superiors in her company for an hour, she was then taken to the hospital.

When they arrived at the hospital, several nurses at the nurse station were fighting to take care of the patient in the No. 2 VIP ward.

A doctor came by and extinguished their eagerness with a few words. "Stop arguing. Our hospital director went there personally already. The vice director has also personally treated his wound. For such an important patient, only the head nurse is qualified to take care of him."

The nurses fell silent at that instant.

The general manager asked Isabella to wait outside the door while he went in to pay his respects to Claud.

After a while, she heard the manager ask, "Mr. Lambert, I've brought the person who scalded you here. Do you want to meet her?"

There was a moment of silence in the ward before the man's deep voice pierced through. "I don't want to see her now."

"Okay, Mr. Lambert. I'll let her wait outside!"

Soon, the manager came out of the ward. Seeing that Isabella was standing at the door, he lowered his voice and scolded, "You can't even serve tea well. Our company doesn't need a useless person like you. You should wait here until Mr. Lambert forgives you. Besides, don't bother coming back to the company."

"Sir!" Isabella stopped him when he was about to leave.

"What?"

"He won't see me. Please let me go!"

The manager's eyes widened. "Let you go? Then where can I find you if Mr. Lambert wants to see you? Just wait here! You aren't allowed to leave until he is willing to see you! You'll need to seek forgiveness from him even if you have to kneel down today! Don't get us into trouble!"

Then, he told the bodyguard next to him who was guarding the door, "Keep an eye on her! Don't let her run away!"

"Yes, sir!"

Left with no choice, Isabella stood aside. She leaned against the wall and waited helplessly.

After some time, she heard the doctor's words to Claud's assistant. "Mr. Lambert has got a slight scald. Thankfully, he is treated in time so it's not that serious. I've prescribed some ointments for him and he'll be fine in a few days. He needs to be mindful of his diet too these days."

The assistant sent the doctor away. He shot a glare at Isabelle before going back into the ward.

Isabella made a face. Such an arrogant assistant Claud had.

As time ticked away, many people passed by the door. When they saw her standing there, they would either cast her a confused or a disgusted look.

She had been waiting for two hours. A lot of people came in and out of his ward, but Claud still showed no intention of seeing her.

She was losing her patience gradually. Moreover, her feet hurt so much since she was in her heels.

The moment the last person stepped out of the ward, she came forward, just in time before the assistant shut the door. "I want to see Claud."

He muttered under his breath, "How dare you call Mr. Lambert by his first name? He is still busy now. Go and wait outside!"

Then, the door was ruthlessly closed.

Isabella knocked on the door impatiently and said in a flat voice, "Claud, I'm here to apologize to you. If you don't plan to see me at all, then I'll leave."

There was no response.

Taking a deep breath, Isabella continued, "It's fine if you don't accept my apology. I'll pay for your medical bills and we're even. If your wound gets worse, don't come to me again. It'd have got nothing to do with me by then..."
