Chapter 7 Something Happened To Ivan

Sheila went to the dressing room to change her clothes. When she walked out, she found Saul standing outside. He looked at her as if he was about to say something but decided against it at the last minute.

"Thank you for helping me out just now, Saul," Sheila blurted out, flashing Saul a grateful smile.

"This is the reward for being the stand-in. What happened between you and Mr. Lamont?" Saul couldn't help asking after giving Sheila a thousand dollars, thinking of her abnormal reaction in front of Gerald.

"He and Winnie are soon to be engaged. I don't want to have anything to do with him. I don't want any trouble," Sheila confessed.

"I see. But Sheila, you should understand your own situation. It's not easy to build a career in the entertainment circle. I wouldn't have helped you if it weren't for your great potential," Saul said, patting Sheila on the shoulder.

Sheila nodded and clutched the hem of her shirt to keep her fingers from trembling.

Saul eyed her carefully and sighed, "Winnie... It's also because of her that you have lost so many opportunities."

Sheila shook her head and said, "Stop it, Saul. At least... At least the Newell family has paid for Ivan's medical expenses."

Saul was about to say something when Sheila's phone suddenly rang.

It was Dr. Sherman calling.

"Hello, is this Ivan's family? Ivan is not in good condition. Please come to my office immediately."

"What?" Sheila exclaimed, feeling her heart leap to her throat.

She held on to her phone so tightly that her knuckles turned white. "Okay, I'll be right there."

"I'll drive you." Knowing what was going on with Ivan, Saul offered Sheila a ride to the hospital without hesitation.

As soon as Sheila set foot in the hospital, she rushed to Dr. Sherman's office at the end of the corridor and knocked on the door.

"Dr. Sherman. How's my brother?" Sheila said, trying to keep the nervousness out of her voice.

"Ivan's condition is getting worse. We must prepare for the next phase of his treatment," Dr. Sherman replied, looking just as worried as Sheila.

Getting worse?

Sheila gnashed her teeth together. A new phase of treatment meant Ivan's hospital bills would pile up, and she wouldn't be able to make enough money to pay for everything in a short period of time.

"What about the bone marrow transplant? Have we found a donor?" Sheila asked.

"Not yet. We need to be patient. It's not easy finding a match," Dr. Sherman answered, shaking his head.

"Dr. Sherman, please try your best to save my brother at all costs."

Dr. Sherman sighed, "I am trying my best, but at this point, whether or not he can survive depends on his own luck."

Sheila would never let Ivan die!

As long as she was drawing breath, she would stop at nothing to make sure that Ivan could beat his sickness.

Sheila opened the door and entered the ward. Without blinking, she looked at the sleeping young man on the bed.

Ivan had just come out of the operating room. His face was deathly pale, and he had lost a lot of weight. He looked as fragile as a porcelain doll, and his illness had sucked almost all the life out of him.

Sheila and Ivan grew up together in an orphanage. They weren't blood-related, but their bond was just like that of real siblings. Ivan looked up to Sheila and treated her like a big sister, and Sheila protected Ivan like a little brother.

Unfortunately, something unexpected happened. Ivan was diagnosed with leukemia, making him unsuitable for adoption. He had to rely on Sheila to survive.

Looking at her helpless little brother, Sheila blinked away the tears that stung her eyes.

"I've already paid for the first operation, Ivan. Please hold on a little longer. I will find a way to cure you."

Sheila stayed with Ivan for a while before leaving the ward and returning home in a daze.

As soon as she entered the house, she was greeted by a splash of cold water.

Somebody dumped it on her head, drenching her all over.

The coldness immediately seeped into her clothes and skin, making her knees buckle and almost sending her crashing to the floor.
