Adam Bancroft Jr. was splashed all over the news, he was
apologizing for the trouble the protest caused. Molly
watched in horror at his smug smile when he turned the
tables on her.
"I just want to clear the air. Bancroft Enterprises is giving
every family in Memory Lane a huge settlement and a
year to move. Miss Hansson is a young and inexperienced
woman, we are doing these people a favour. The
buildings are old and run down, that land will also have a
building that will be strictly used as a lab. They will be
running tests and trying to find a cure for diseases,
nonprofit, of course. Donated by Bancroft Enterprises."
Adam leaned in towards the camera, staring at it. "Stick
to what you know Miss Hansson, shopping and doing your
nails, leave the business to the big boys."
Molly flung the TV remote down, cursing under her
breath. Adam had turned the table on her, he was now
getting support from the media. And now donating a
building for medical research, who was he kidding, it
would be a tax write off for him, would end up costing
him nothing. He was making her out to be a bored dumb
bimbo, now she was even more determined to fight.
****************************************
The next day she was busy writing letters when she
received a call from Adam's secretary. He wanted to
meet with her at the Chandler Hotel Dining room at eight
P.M. It was advised that she show up if she wanted him
to reconsider his decision.
The Chandler Hotel was a place that only the very wealthy
could afford to eat and stay. Molly wore the only fancy
dress she owned, a little black number.
Adam stood up when she was escorted to his table.
"Molly, I'm glad you could make it."
"I didn't have much of a choice Mr.Bancroft," she replied
curtly.
"Call me Adam."
"Sorry I'm late, but I was busy doing my nails," she said
sarcastically.
Adam laughed. "Oh, so you saw the news did you?"
"Yes, and you have some nerve. What you said about the
buildings falling down are untrue and you know it."
"It's nothing personal Molly, just business," he said as he
poured them both a glass of wine.
"Look, Mr. Bancroft, I mean Adam. I'm here to talk about
Memory Lane and nothing else."
He glared at her, his patience running thin. "I never talk
business until after I've eaten, we can talk later. Shall I
order for you?"
"I'm not here to eat, this is not a date," she snapped.
The waiter came over and ignoring her Adam ordered the
steak for the two of them.
Molly figured if she had to eat she would not let Adam
decide for her. Though the steak sounded delicious she
picked something altogether different. "No, I'll have the
fish with a side salad," giving Adam an icy stare she
thanked the waiter.
Adam smiled to himself. This girl has spunk, it might be
fun getting to know her.
"I brought you a folder to look at. Inside is a full report on
the people and their business. If there is anything else you
want to know just ask me."
Adam held up his hands to stop her from talking. "Molly
after we eat. Now let's get to know one another, tell me
about yourself."
She inhaled deeply and let out a sigh. "What do you want
to know?"
"Is there a man in your life?"
"That's really none of your business, but no, there isn't."
Adam raised his eyebrow, letting his eyes roam over her
body. "I find that hard to believe. A beautiful woman like
you single."
A rosy tint appeared on her face at his compliment. "I've
been busy, I just finished college and returned home."
"What was your major? and how did you do?"
"I finished top of my class in Business and Finance." She
gave him a smug look. See, I'm not such a bimbo, after all,
you jerk.
"So you're smart as well as beautiful. If you're so smart
you must know I could sue you for slander."
Molly swallowed the last bite of her fish, a wicked smile
crossed her face. "Do it, but how do you think the public
will feel about you when they find out you're using a poor
young woman, one whose community you're tearing
down?"
Adam's eyes grew eerily dark as he stared at Molly,
dropping his fork on his plate. "You have some nerve
talking to me like this Molly. But be careful with that
mouth of yours before you get yourself in a whole lot of
trouble." He leaned over towards her and snarled. "I could
destroy you with one phone call."
Molly stood up, tossing her napkin on the table shouted,
not caring that the people around them were listening.
"Don't you dare threaten me. I'm not one of your bimbo's
you can push around." Tossing the folder down in front of
him stormed out.
He watched her leave, a smile formed on his face. There
was something about her, she was unlike any woman he
had ever met.
When Adam left the restaurant he saw Molly across the
street. She appeared to be having car trouble. The hood
was up and she was bent over looking inside. Her dress
had ridden up, showing off a great deal of leg. He walked
over and asked what was wrong.
"It's this stupid car of mine, It won't start again." She
looked up at Adam. "Do you know anything about cars?"
she asked.
Shaking his head he laughed. "No, but I do know this.
From the looks of this car, I'd say scrap it."
"Easy for you to say money bags," she said in a snarky
tone.
"Let me give you a ride home."
"No thanks, I'll call a cab."
"You won't get one now, maybe in an hour or two, if
you're lucky." When she shook her head no again he
turned and walked away, shouted back over his shoulder.
"Ok, good luck, watch out for the drunks coming out of
the bar."
Molly's head snapped towards the sound of three men
laughing and carrying on, they were obviously drunk. Not
wanting to deal with them yelled out to Adam. "Wait, I'll
take that ride."
He opened the door for her then got in himself. "Did I tell
you how sexy you look in that dress?"
Shaking her head she rolled her eyes at him. "Don't bother
flirting with me, it won't get you anywhere."
"I'm just saying, are you always this defensive?" he asked
as he pulled up in front of her father's shop. "This is where
you live?"
"It is, and thank you for the ride."
He stopped her from opening the car door. "I'll walk you
to your door," he said as he got out and over to her side.
She waited for Adam to open her door. Stepping out she
looked at him, wondering why she suddenly felt nervous.
"There's no need to walk me to the door."
He paid no attention and walked her up to the door
anyway. As soon as they got there he put his arms around
her waist. "I need some form of payment for the ride
home."
She placed her hands on his arms and pulled them away
from her waist. "If it's a payment you want then I'll give
you the cash."
"I don't want money." He put her up against the wall and
his lips came down on hers. They tasted like honey and
velvety soft. His hands went around her tiny waist and he
pulled her close as his kiss deepened.
She gave him a shove back. "How dare you," she said as
she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, turning
she dashed inside.
Molly was furious, her body trembling from his kiss that
left her lips swollen. She thanked God that her parents
were asleep, she didn't want to explain why she was
trembling and her lips swollen. She was starting to lose
hope. Adam was playing with her, he had no intentions of
stopping the building project. They were doomed and she
never wanted to see him again.
That night as she laid awake she thought about Adam
and that kiss. No man had ever kissed her like that before,
with so much urgency and passion. His lips so soft yet
firm, his tongue so moist when it tickled her tongue with
his. It sent flames through her body like a raging fire right
down to her core, an intense throbbing began and she felt
her panties getting wet.
Molly couldn't understand how this man, whom she hated
could make her feel what she was feeling. She gave
herself a mental slap and told herself to stop thinking
about him, she would never let him kiss her again, which
would be easy since she would never be seeing him
again.
*********************************************
Adam drove home with a smile on his face. Well, at least
she didn't slap my face. He thought to himself. Arriving
home to his suite at the hotel he grabbed a beer from the
fridge and sat down on his leather sofa, stretching his
legs and removing his tie. He couldn't get the feisty little
blond out of his head, boy she had a temper. If looks
could kill he'd be a dead man from the way she glared at
him, and from the way she shoved him knew she was
strong as well.
Adam wanted to see her again, but he knew she wasn't
like the other women. No, Molly was not impressed with
money and fancy things, she could not be bribed with
diamonds or expensive gifts. He wanted her in his bed
and was determined to have her, one way or another. Her
lips were like a drug, he'd had a taste and wanted more.
Getting comfortable on his sofa leaned back. Taking out
his phone checked his messages as he looking at his
luxurious surroundings. Everything was new and
expensive, all bright and shiny, he loved being surrounded
by beautiful things, one of the perks of being wealthy. But
there was something missing, though he always had the
company of women he sometimes felt lonely.
Finishing his beer clicked off his phone, they were from
women he had bedded and wanted him to call. Normally
he would have called one of them, but tonight his mind
was distracted by Molly. For whatever reason, he couldn't
get her out of his head.
