Molly was surprised to hear back from Bancroft
Enterprise, not after she stormed out of his office
swearing at him. She really had no desire to see him
again but knew she had to give it another shot. So the
following day she found herself standing in front of Susan.
"He's in the gym," She points to a set of glass doors.
"Through those doors and to the left." Her attitude was
even less friendly today than it was before.
Molly couldn't be sure but she had a distinct feeling that
Susan disliked her, but why? she had done nothing to the
woman.
She walked through the glass doors and taking a left turn
entered another room. Looking around she saw all the
gym equipment. There was everything from exercise
bikes, treadmills, weights, even a small boxing ring.
"I'm over here Miss Hansson." A husky voice rang out.
Molly looked over to where Adam was lifting weights. He
was shirtless and his muscles glistened with sweat. She
couldn't help but notice how fit he was. His muscular
body flexing with every movement he made. She again
felt that unfamiliar feeling coursing through her body, a
throbbing deep inside her core.
Adam smiled when he saw her checking him out and
thought it was adorable how her face turned a light shade
of pink. "Well Molly, can I call you Molly?" When she didn't
reply he took it as a yes. "Ok, Molly say what you've got to
say. I can work out and listen at the same time." He
looked at the curve of her neck when she turned away
and thought how sweet it would be to put his lips there
and suck gently, making her squirm.
"I want you to put a stop on the project, Memory Lane."
She turned to look at him.
"Now why would I do that?" he asked, lifting another
weight.
"Mr. Bancroft, it's a family community made up of people
from all around the world. They came here years ago, and
they're good honest and hard working people."
Adam glanced back over at Molly, she was wearing a cute
little green dress which matched her eyes. He noticed
how toned and taut she was and wondered how it would
feel to have her squirming beneath him, with her legs
wrapped around him.
"Mr. Bancroft, are you listening to me?"
Her shrilled voice shattered his thoughts, bringing him
back to the discussion at hand. "Yes, and please call me
Adam. They can find another place to live and work, we
are after all giving them a decent settlement."
Molly was becoming frustrated, hands clenched by her
side. "Most of them are too old to start over, and not
educated, they won't survive anywhere else."
Stopping what he was doing Adam stood up and reaching
for a towel wiped the sweat from his face. "That's not my
problem. Do you expect me to drop an operation worth
billions of dollars just so that a bunch of immigrants can
earn a few bucks?"
Raising her voice she stepped closer, lips quivering. "It's
not about money, it's about the people. A community
that's more than that, we all grew up together, we're
family. If you would just come down there and meet the
people, get to know them. You might just change your
mind."
Molly hadn't realized it but as she talked she kept edging
closer to Adam. As they came face to face he stared into
her eyes, they were filled with so much passion and fire,
pleading with him. "Please, can't you let it go? you have
so many other places that you could buy."
His eyes traveled down her neck to the hollow spot at the
base of her neck. He placed a finger lightly on it, her skin
felt so warm and soft, he noticed she didn't move away.
Molly's eyes closed, she was frozen to the spot. His
touch was warm and soft, seductive, sending her into a
trance. She felt the heat from his body as he moved
closer, touching her, his breath warm on her face.
Suddenly her eyes fluttered open when they were
interrupted by a female voice and Molly backed away.
A Brunette, wearing a short tight dress with a low cut
front walked right up to Adam. Wrapping her arms around
his sweaty neck pressed into him. Purring like a cat.
"Adam darling, why aren't you ready?"
Grabbing the woman's rear he leaned down, giving her a
long kiss. He kept his eyes opened and stared into Molly's
eyes as he did this. Molly was disgusted and turned her
head away.
"Wait for me in the office baby." Giving her a pat on the
rear sent her away, then turned and smiled at Molly. "Let's
finish this another time Molly."
Groaning she snapped at him. "Of course, I wouldn't want
to keep you from yet another date," she replied
sarcastically.
He moved swiftly, backing her up against the wall, taking
her by complete surprise. Brushing his lips against hers
and said in a low murmur. "I could always send her away,
and you and I could go somewhere more private and
continue our talk."
Molly was hypnotized, she couldn't move. Her eyes glued
on his damp chest and had an urge to reach out and
touch it. Then she nudged him and moved away, a scowl
on her face. "You're being offensive."
Grabbing her wrist pulled her into his arms but she shoved
him away. "You're a pig," she squealed and walking away
left the room, leaving Adam aroused. *****************
Molly returned home and tried to shake off the close
encounter with Adam. When he rested his finger on her
neck she felt little bolts of electricity shoot through her. A
part of her liked it and wanted more of his touch. But she
knew how crazy that was, she didn't even like him. Sure
she found him attractive, sexy and dangerous. But also a
monster who was hell-bent on tearing down her beloved
community, destroying her family and friends in the
process.
She threw herself into organizing a protest, trying
desperately to forget about the man who has lit a fire
inside her. She got several of the younger people in the
community to help, they made signs and planned what
they would say and do. She called a friend of hers, Derek
who works for the local newspaper. He promised to have
a reporter there.
The day of the protest rolled around and Molly was ready
to leave. "I'm going now dad," she shouts out.
"I don't want you to do this Molly. It's against the law, you
could get arrested."
"I won't dad, it's going to be a peaceful protest."
Close to thirty people gathered, along with Molly. Holding
their signs they marched in front of the Bancroft building
chanting. "Bancroft Jr. unfair to the poor, help save
Memory Lane."
When Adam showed up at his building and saw what was
going on he became enraged. Spotting Molly he sprinted
over and grabbed her arm in a vice-like grip, cutting off
the circulation in her arm. "What the hell do you think you
are doing?"
"Exactly what it looks like," she screamed over the noise
of the crowd. "You wouldn't listen to reason so I
organized this protest."
"Well break it up lady or else," he snapped, his eyes
narrowed into slits.
With fire in her eyes and ice in her voice, she yelled back.
"Or else what? call the cops to arrest me, go ahead.
How's that going to look for your precious reputation?"
she hissed.
"Why you little."
Adam didn't have a chance to finish his sentence due to
the fact that a young man came over and put his hand on
Adam's arm. "Get your hands off her now."
He looked at the young man and then Molly, releasing her
arm. "I don't believe this. You've got one hour to leave or I
will call the cops."
Adam stormed away, furious as hell as he fought his way
through the crowd. And he wondered who the hell that
punk kid was, her boyfriend no doubt.
Not only did the newspaper reporter show up but so did
the TV Media.
Inside the office, both Adam and his father watched the
news. Molly was being interviewed by the reporter.
"Miss Hansson, you organized this protest, can you tell us
what it's all about? and what you hope the outcome will
be."
Molly told them all about Memory Lane, the people, how
they came to settle in Manhatten. She told about how in
their hearts they were all family. And what it would do to
the older ones to lose their homes and business.
After Molly told them the whole story they asked her
some personal questions. "Miss Hansson, have you met
Bancroft Jr? if so what is your opinion of him?"
She stared right into the camera. "Yes, I've met him a
couple of times. I've found him to be a heartless and self-
centered jerk. A man who only cares about money and
power, not people."
"Miss Hansson, Bancroft is a very handsome man, the
word is he's irresistible to women. Are you not in any way
attracted to him?"
Knowing Adam would be watching stared back into the
camera. "Heck no, I find him disgusting. I could never be
attracted to a man like Adam Bancroft even if my life
depended on it."
Adam watched her on the TV, even in jeans and a
sweatshirt, her hair up in a ponytail he still thought she
looked downright sexy.
Adam Sr. laughed out loud. "That's some impression you
made on that young lady son, I'm glad she's not mad at
me. So what are you going to do? you could sue her for
slander, have the group arrested."
Adam Jr. shook his head. "No, I don't want them arrested,
just gone. As for Molly Hansson, I'll deal with her myself."
He smirked.
Susan knocked and walked in. "Mr. Bancroft, the phones
are being flooded with calls from the investors about the
bad publicity that the Memory Lane has caused.
Adam barked out orders. "Set up a meeting with PR, let's
ask them how we should handle this."
The police came and had no trouble breaking up the
protest. Molly had gotten what she wanted, the exposure
they got was sure to get Bancroft's attention. And that it
did, it would also prove to be more than Molly had
bargained for.
The news carried more on Bancroft and Memory Lane,
she was pleased with the results. The media made
Bancroft look like a greedy heartless bastard who was
driving poor immigrants out of their homes. Molly knew
Adam would be feeling the pressure and maybe he would
have second thoughts about Memory Lane.
But over the next few days, things took a turn for the
worse for Molly and her community. One she had not
counted on, it would change everything she worked hard
on, one that would change her life forever.
