Chapter 5 WHO WOULD

Crawford realized that Sapphire was looking at their hands. He didn't let go of her hand, not until she let go herself. She reluctantly withdrew her hand and met his eyes with nothing but curiosity.

The alpha could see her eyes glimmering. He swallowed the lump in his throat as his eyes went down from her brown eyes down to her lips. He fought the urge to kiss her and to own her.

"Why is everyone here saying that you have no wolf? " He distracted himself by asking the question he really needed to ask.

Sapphire slowly blinked and didn't know where to start. She wasn't exactly proud of what she became and why it happened. The mate bond used to be really beautiful in her mind. The concept of meeting your soulmate is surreal yet very idealistic. But the reality of it could be cruel, which is why she sees it as a curse instead of a gift now.

"Were you born with no wolf? " He asked again, insisting on an answer from Sapphire.

She quickly shakes her head, "It's not like that. I was born like a normal werewolf. Five years ago... my mate rejected me, and just like that, I'm wolfless. " She averted her gaze. His eyes were too deep and intimidating. She felt like she would get drawn into his eyes, which were dark as the night with no stars.

"You still have your wolf. " He declared it with confidence in his voice. The woman let out a small chuckle. She didn't know how to properly react to this, and her frustration translated into a small laugh.

She gave a nod and said, "That could be right, but my wolf decided not to resurface anymore. I'm basically a human right now. I can't shift, I don't have enhanced senses, or the ability to talk through mind link. The only thing that lets me not get lost in this forest is my sense of direction and my familiarity with it. "

"No. " His strong opposition gave away that he knew something. The Alpha took her hand again and pulled her close, "It's impossible to be mated when you don't have a wolf. I saw your eyes change before you lost consciousness. I called on you, my wolf called on you, and your wolf responded. "

Sapphire didn't know what to be surprised about. Their distance, above all, couldn't let her think straight at all!

"What do you mean you called into me? " He growled in frustration. Sapphire could see annoyance in his eyes. No, it wasn't directed at her, but she could feel how conflicted he was right now.

She cleared her throat and firmly waited for his answer, "exactly what I said. My wolf called to you because you're my mate. " Something jolted inside of her after she heard what he said.

There was a short silence between them. Crawford realizes how close they are right now. He could hear her breathing and almost hear her raging heartbeat. It enticed him, almost like inviting him to dwell deeper into their bond.

Sapphire was about to speak but was welcomed with his lips instead. His kisses were firm but reassuring, and they quickly erased all of the questions she had in mind. All she knew was that if this wasn't right, then nothing was.

He felt her hands making their way towards his neck, pulling him closer. He growled deep in his throat and his actions grew rougher with his wolf intervening. It was still calling out for her wolf, as if to pull her out to where it was hiding.

Sapphire could hear her own hoarse breathing. His hands were snaking all over his body, making their way to places that made her gasp in pleasure. Was he really her mate? Did the goddess give her a second chance mate to prove that it was a gift or to show how severe a curse could be?

"We shouldn't be doing this. " She managed to utter. He was already half lifting her to compensate for their difference in height, but the alpha never stumbled. The opposite of Sapphire, whose knees felt like jelly right now. She could imagine herself stumbling if Crawford suddenly let go of her. Her grip on him tightened as a result of those thoughts.

He leaned in and whispered, "Just say stop and I will. " Sapphire heard herself moan, with the man playfully biting her earlobe. It's like every bit of his touch could send thousands of pleasures to her end. His kisses continued with Sapphire's no response to his offer. He kept on murmuring how much he regretted not knowing her earlier and that she didn't deserve what she had gone through for the last five years.

How could she stop this whole thing when all she heard and felt were the words she had been yearning to hear ever since? Her family has been very supportive and protective of her, but she knew that they considered her situation as a handicap, but she couldn't feel it one bit from Crawford. All she felt was complete acceptance. It was too good to be true that she was actually doubting it.

More importantly, how could she stop him when all she could think about right now is how she wanted to explore everything in him?

Sapphire doesn't know where to place her head after his kisses went down from her lips down to her neck. The mate bond would be completed with them marking each other as theirs. Her reaction shows how much she wanted to be marked, but Crawford managed to stop himself before he could make a decision that both of them might regret later.

Still, they had fallen deep into a bond both of them were unfamiliar with.

"You're my mate. " He declared as if he hadn't confirmed what they did. She felt blood rushing to her face. She was flustered, but not in a bad way.

The woman busied herself by fixing her blouse, which thankfully didn't lose a button from their "encounter" earlier. She couldn't even remember how Crawford removed the hook from her bra.

After prolonging the silence, she finally spoke. She doesn't have a choice. "I believe you, but can you really accept a mate like me? " He couldn't answer her question, and that is when her face went from hopeful to devastated.

She questioned the bond and the goddess. This is probably her punishment.

"Don't worry, I won't insist myself on you. " She walked back into the pack house. Sapphire was the one who asked the question because she thought it would feel less painful, but it wasn't the case.

What was she thinking? Who would love a werewolf that lost her wolf?
