Chapter 9 Handsome

CHAPTER 8

He smirked at me like he was trying to provoke me. It's obvious that he's teasing me and he's enjoying it! I gritted my teeth.

"I didn't know that you're working here," he said while the smirk on his lips is still on. Something is urging me to slap this computer machine on his face to erase that funny smirk on him.

"Of course, you won't know. I didn't tell you," I responded sarcastically but it seems like he doesn't care about it. I just looked away at him and typed in his orders.

"I'm sorry I did that to you earlier. I was just running an errand," he told me. My brows furrowed and looked at him. Is this true? He's saying sorry? In the supermarket, he didn't even care that he acted rudely! He just left without saying sorry! And now...am I dreaming?

"I didn't know that you know how to say sorry," I said still pissed. Well, I'll forgive him easily if he didn't inflict so many troubles on me.

"Excuse me?" he asked like he didn't get what I said. My brows furrowed and fixed my eyes on him. I won't deny how handsome he is but knowing his attitude, he's not worth it.

"Your order is fifteen dollars, sir," I said politely like I didn't hear the last words he said. I looked at him and his brows are still in a furrow. He took out his wallet from his pocket and give his payment to me. I was about to get the money when he moved back his hands. My hand was stopped mid-air.

"Sir?" I asked because we will be here long if he does not give his payment yet. But he just looked at me with his annoyed face. What is his problem?

"Why didn't you accept my apology?" he asked which made me stop a bit. What?

"Can't you see? The other customers are lining up waiting to order and you're here wasting their time," I said grittily. His brows furrowed like he didn't get why I am so irritated with him. Maybe he didn't remember what happened in the supermarket. He only remembers what happened earlier.

That's fine. I am not an important person to be remembered by someone like him. I am totally fine. Damn him!

Without words, he just gives the money I immediately recorded his payment until the receipt come out.

"Here's your receipt, sir. I put the number on your receipt so that the waiters could identify you as they gave you your order. Thank you for coming!" I said joyfully like I like him being here. God knows how much I hate this man. Damn!

He looks at me for a moment before he accepts the receipt and leaves my face. I rolled my eyes as he walked away. I smiled at the next customer and asked for his order but for an incomprehensible reason, my eyes followed where he'd sat, and I saw a girl sitting at the table where he takes his seat.

I looked at the girl. She's familiar. I feel like I have already seen her on some front page of a magazine. Is she a model? I just shrugged it off and focus on my work.

Time passed by and work has finished. My body feels so sore from all the hard work we did earlier. Our work needs to stand for the whole hours. We also have to move our hands fast so that customers won't feel bored as they line up. We don't want to get called incompetent workers.

I take off my uniform and change clothes as I wait for Jane to finish with her report. Our final duty before we go home after work is to report the earnings and gave the money to our manager. I was done with it earlier and Jane hasn't.

So, while waiting for her, I opened my phone and visited my social media accounts. I stopped scrolling on social media when a familiar name appears on my screen.

"In his in loving memories, we loved you, Andrew Simson," I read what it said. My face turned cold as I stared at the man's face. Tomorrow is his death anniversary. It means...his murderer will be remembered too.

My father killed Andrew Simson eleven years ago. Like I said he was an influential person in this country. He's wealthy. He has everything and he got killed by my father. The truth is I tried to investigate what happened that night, that night when my father killed him.

They said that my father was reckless and accused Andrew Simson of cheating on the game. When I was young, I believed my father, but...as I investigate, it was impossible for Andrew Simson to cheat because he's rich, what else can he get with the little money that my father has?

I put down my phone and lean on the wall behind me. It damaged my whole life. It changed my life and I experienced getting bullied by others because of it but I never hated them or my father because I know none of them wants it to happen. It just happens and no one could stop it.

I laughed at myself. I have a huge heart when it comes to others yet...they couldn't give me any care. That's why I value people who love me. Without them, I am nothing.

"Aethel?" I heard Jane's voice. I immediately stood up and smiled at her.

"Are you done?" I asked.

"I won't be here if I wasn't," she said sarcastically and pulled me outside. I laughed at her sarcastic remarks. We took a cab together and like at the cafeteria she convinced me to run for president. I always just roll my eyes at her.

"I told you, Jane, I don't want it..." I said feeling so tired of her persistence. She pouted at me.

"But it's your time to shine! Prove them that you can! Prove them that you're not the person they thought you to be! You are more than being just Aethelred Roberts!" she sounds so enthusiastic about it. I sighed heavily.

"They will just hate me more, Jane..." I said so eagerly so that she could understand that it won't fit me.

"No! Because they'll know your capabilities! I've seen how eager you are in getting their attention, Aethel! Don't let this chance slip away!" she encouraged me. I didn't speak and just looked at her.

I can't see myself as a leader of this university. I can't imagine it. I could imagine them throwing eggs and tomatoes at me as I speak in front.

"I really can't, Jane," I said and shook my head. Jane didn't stop convincing me, but I didn't get tired of saying a "no" until I arrived at auntie Tamara's house.

"Bye, Jane!" I said while waving my hands to her. I laughed when I saw her roll her eyes at me.

"Don't smile at me!" she said and told the taxi driver to drive. I laughed and shook my head. Auntie Tamara welcomed me with a hug before she invited me into the dining. I saw Temari already eating there. She looked at me blankly and after looking at me she went back to eating her food. Well, I didn't expect her to come and hug me as auntie Tamara did.

"You cook so well, auntie," I complimented the food. I admire auntie's cooking skills that I don't have. I know how to cook but I just couldn't make a delicious dish.

"That's because I prepared it for you both. It's your first day of school!" auntie Tamara said excitedly. I looked at Temari to see some reaction from her but it was like she didn't hear what her mom said.

"Thank you, auntie..." I smiled at auntie who rolled her eyes at her daughter. She smiled at me. The dinner went well. As much as auntie wants me to sleep there but I insist that I can't. I told her that I still need to study so in the end she let me go.

I indeed need to study. Tomorrow will be the real start of my last year in college. I have to be serious and make an advanced reading so that I could excel in class again like I did last year. I have to be good at this, especially since our internship would also start this year.

Early in the morning, I heard a car outside. I am now wearing my uniform when I checked who it was and saw that it was Jane and Jeremy. I think Jeremy fetch Jane at her home so that they could go together to school. So, why are they here?

"What?" I asked as I opened the gate of the house. Jane frowned at me.

"We're fetching you! We'll go to school together!" Jane said.

"You still have your breakfast date, right?" I asked. Jane rolled her eyes, it was obvious that she didn't have a good sleep last night.

"We're done with it! Let's go!" Jane said in a hurry. I nodded and got my bag. I locked the house before coming inside Jeremy's car.

"So...did you think about it, Aethel?" Jane asked. She looked at me in the rear-view mirror of the car since she was sitting in the front seat.

"About what?" I asked acting like I didn't know when in fact I know what she was talking about.

"Argh! You're so frustrating, Aethelred Roberts!" Jane lamented. I chuckled at her reaction. She glared at me and twisted at her seat so that she could look me, eye to eye.

"Jane! Sit properly!" Jeremy told her but she didn't listen to him.

"I'll help you! If you want, you don't need to take any extra effort! I'll do it for you! I'll do the rest! Just let me list you to the election!" Jane said eagerly. I sighed heavily. I don't want to run but...with Jane encouraging me like this...

"Fine!" I said and Jane immediately hugged me so tight. I got almost choked because of her hug.

"Jane!" Jeremy scolded her.

Jane immediately messages the council who managed the election to list my name. I just sigh. Maybe Jane is right. I need it. I need to prove myself and this is the time.

As I walk on the pathway toward my first class, I heard some murmurings and it was new because it was not about me. It's about...

"Did you hear the news? Caden will run for president! The handsome hottie of the Business Management!"
