"Can you hear yourself, Jane? You know that I don't stand a chance to win!" I told her. She raised a brow.
"You have the chance to win, Aethel. You became the secretary and that's because they voted you!" she said persistently. I rolled my eyes. "Yes, and that's because Justin encouraged them to vote for me!" I argued.
"You're the top student here in the university, Aethel, and don't you think that it's your time to shine?" she asked and chew her fries. I sighed heavily and shook my head. I have never dreamed to become the president of the council. I am very aware of all the heavy responsibilities that a president needs to carry. I've already seen it with Justin, and I don't think I can do it.
"Being a secretary is enough for me, Jane," I said. Jane talked about that matter the whole break time until we finished eating. She thinks I'd be a better leader which I don't want. I went back to my class after break time with Jane. But because it was the first day of school this year I didn't pay much attention. I don't know why but it makes me think, what if I'd become the president of the council?
Would they stop thinking ill of me? Would they stop looking at me like some disgusting disease? Would they start to like me as a person?
Maybe I am just thirsty for attention. I want everybody's attention that's why I am thinking of so many possibilities. I sighed heavily and didn't notice that the instructor already dismissed the class. It means it's time to go home.
I properly put back my things inside my bag and head out of the room. My phone vibrated and saw auntie's message.
Auntie:
Visit here after work. I cooked dinner for us.
I smiled inwardly and texted her my confirmation that I'll come. I can feel how auntie got attached to me after so many years of staying in her house. Now, I felt guilty for leaving but then...it's for the better. I have to be independent.
Jane also texted me that she's now out with Jeremy. I also replied before I slid back my phone inside my pocket. I looked at the heavy clouds in the sky. I think any moment now heavy rain will fall. Damn! I don't have an umbrella!
I sighed heavily. Well, there's a roof here in the waiting shed, maybe I'll still be here for a moment instead of getting soaked under the rain. While waiting for a cab in the waiting shed, I heard footsteps coming toward me. I glanced at whoever walking toward me and was stunned when I saw that this guy is familiar. My brows furrowed when our eyes met. Our eyes met and exactly the rain pour.
Damn it! I don't have an umbrella, yet my eyes are fixed on this guy who stood beside me. Wait...he's the guy in the supermarket, right? Damn...and he's wearing the same uniform as mine! He's studying at this university?!
He glanced at me which made me stiffen.
"Why are you looking at me?" he asked coldly. My lips parted as realization hit me. He doesn't remember me! I don't know why but I'm suddenly pissed!
"N-Nothing..." I looked away and just stared at what was in front of me. The heavy rain is falling like crazy. I swallowed hard. Why is he here? I thought he has a car? What is he doing in this waiting shed?
I heard his phone ring. I felt him answer his phone.
"Where are you?" he suddenly sounded pissed. I wonder who's he talking to? Damn! Why am I curious?!
"Fuck you, Mark. If I saw a single scratch in my car, I'll kill you," he sounded so angry. So...his car is with someone that's why he's here. Wait? Why am I eavesdropping on someone's conversation? Well, he's beside me and it's impossible not to hear his conversation because I have ears! Damn it!
I felt him hang up the phone and sighed heavily as he slid back his phone into his pocket. I swallowed hard and tried not to care for whatever he was doing but as time goes by, I couldn't help but glance at him. I didn't know that he was studying at this university. The world is so small, isn't it?
I looked away when his eyes turned to me. Damn! I almost got caught!
"Do you know what time the cab will drop by?" he asked impatiently. He looks pissed at what's happening. Is this his first time waiting for a cab here?
"I-It'll come any time soon," I only said and turn back my eyes front.
"Damn it!" I heard his heavy curses. I bit my lower lip and hugged myself as the cold wind blew on us. Damn! And just what I expected the cab arrived but unfortunately, it was only one cab.
The guy and I looked at each other.
"Can I go first? I still have work-"
"But I am in a hurry. You can wait for another cab if you want," he cut me off and was about to get near the cab when I blocked his way. Damn it! I won't let him! That is my cab!
"But I was the first who waited here!" I reasoned out and hurriedly went to the cab, but he immediately caught my arm and pulled me away from the cab and he was the one who opened the backseat! My eyes widened and stopped him from coming inside. We were like stupid who were pulling and pushing each other just to come first inside the cab!
"Damn! Get off me!" he shouted pissed off. No! I won't let him! I have enough of letting him pass!
"I've come first you bastard!" I shouted so mad, but he was still pushing me away until I fell off the ground and now, I end up soaking because of the rain! I glared at him, but he seems unaffected and just smirked before he successfully slid inside the cab. My blood boiled but before I could get up the cab drove away.
"Fuck that man!" I cursed so hard feeling so angry! Damn it! Whenever I bumped into that man, I always end up so unlucky! He always brings trouble! Damn him!
Feeling so mad, I still have no choice but to wait for another cab. Soaking wet because of what happened earlier, I entered the restaurant where I work.
"What happened to you, Aethelred?" Vince asked, one of the waiters here in the restaurant. I frowned at him.
"Isn't it obvious?" I rolled my eyes at him. He laughed at me, but I walked past him and just entered the girl's room to change. Thankfully, I have spare clothes inside my locker. I changed into my uniform before I go to my cashier machine. Jane looked at me.
"You're a bit late. What happened?" she asked while getting the order from the customer.
"It's raining outside," I just said. She nodded and just focus on her work. I did the same. It's raining heavily outside and that's why maybe we have so many customers right now.
"What's your order, sir?" I asked the next customer while typing on my computer to record his order. Even without looking, I know that he was a he because I could see his black leather jacket from my side view.
"I want a cappuccino for two," the familiar voice said. My brows furrowed and finally faced the customer and stiffened when I see his face again. I blinked twice checking if I am hallucinating or what, but he seems so true.
"You..." I mumbled. He stared at me for a moment and from his look, I know that he also recognized me. Am I getting played at? Why am I always seeing him? It's just fine for me if he's a nice guy but he isn't!
"You're the girl from earlier..." he said and smirked. My blood boiled, remembering what happened earlier. I suddenly want to get even.
