Chapter 4 The Argument

Lisa POV

The day's activities were over and I wished my parents hadn't taken me to that school. Pretending to be a rich girl didn't suit me, Richard was frustrating my life on the other hand and making me feel miserable.

I managed to fulfil just one of his wishes, he decided to keep the ring till I fulfilled all his wishes.

I stood in front of the school waiting for my dad to come and pick me when I heard someone call my name. It was Kate, she was obviously tired.

"What's wrong?" I was concerned.

"Nothing, I just came to see if you were heading in my direction, maybe we could walk together." She answered.

"You're going home now, aren't you?" I ventured cautiously.

"Yes, I've just finished taking Richard to the teachers, he fainted, I'm sure they'll be ... " Her voice trailed off and she looked at me.

"What happened to him?" I asked, concerned.

"Actually, he's alright, Mike's not used to punishment." She answered.

"Who wanted to give him punishment? How did he lose consciousness?" I asked and she frowned.

"Why do you care? Few hours ago, both of you were like Tom and Jerry, don't ask about him, we're going to see him in the hospital this evening, will you come?" She proposed. I realized she was right, I didn't have to be so concerned about someone who made my life miserable today.

"I'm not coming." I replied.

"Why?" She asked, pretending to be concerned. Of course, the look on her face showed no remorse at all, it was completely blank.

I didn't reply, I just smiled at her, a genuine smile that eased the tired lines of my face.

My dad's car pulled to a stop in front of me and I entered. "Good afternoon dad." I greeted and he smiled.

"Who's she?" He inquired, noticing Kate who was leaning on the wall of the school.

"Nobody important." I simply replied as he started the car's engine and started driving.

"Who's she?" He asked again. He frowned, his expression troubled.

"She's a friend, we got along and she was the first person that approached me today."

"How's the school? Do you like it here?"

I paused for a second long before answering. "Boring," The words came out with a ragged smile and his smile faded. "The class wants to propose to the principal to stop the teachers from teaching them, they want to have an excursion or something but the management hasn't allowed that yet." I added and he nodded.

"That sounds interesting." He said.

"Interesting?" I asked with humor in my voice. He chuckled and continued driving.

"I managed to convince Miss Betty, you'll be coming home everyday now, no more staying in the school's hostel." He said and I beamed with joy, it was better than living with those rich students in one hostel.

He drove into our compound and parked in the garage, I came out of the car and walked into the house with my school bag. I greeted mom softly and she looked surprised to see me.

"You're here?" She asked rhetorically. "I didn't mean that, I …." Her voice trailed off. I walked into my room and sat on the bed. I brought out my phone and played some games before coming out of my room.

I heard my mom and my dad arguing, mom had definitely wanted me to stay in the school's hostel and dad wanted me to be happy in his house.

"If that's what you want, she's my daughter and I also have the right to make decisions." She said.

"Yes...decisions," Dad retorted and paused. "You don't mean useless decisions, do you?" He asked.

"Sometimes I wish I didn't quit my job to stay at home but thank God, I've been appointed as the head of administration in my office and I deserve some accolades, I won't be the housewife you want me to be." She answered.

I cleared my throat noisily for them to notice me and walked to the parlor. "Dad, what's wrong?" I asked him.

"Nothing, your dad and I were having a sweet conversation." Mom answered and he looked embarrassed.

"That didn't look sweet though."

They both looked at each other and looked back down at me. "Is dinner ready?" Dad asked, rubbing his belly as he changed the topic entirely.

"I.. I... Uhh..." Mom stammered. Of course, she had forgotten to prepare something for us to eat.

"I can't believe you stayed at home all day to do nothing, you eat my food and watch my TV." He said and I sensed the humor in his voice. He wanted to make everywhere lively so she would apologise for her behavior.

Mom smiled. "I'll prepare us something to eat." She replied and walked into the kitchen.

I went back to my room after eating and laid on the bed, I was feeling sleepy and I kept my phone on silent.

My mind drifted to Richard, I was worried, I couldn't wait to see him in school, I prayed he'll be discharged quickly. With that, I fell into the arms of sleep.

It was morning again and I was done preparing for school, I walked into the parlor after dressing up, there was no one there. "Dad," I called out but Mom came out of her room. "Good morning Mom." I greeted with a smile.

"How was your night, angel?" She asked.

"I slept well, where's dad?" I asked her. She put on a worried face. "What's wrong?" I asked her again.

"Something came up, he had to go to his office, his boss needed him urgently, I would have loved to drive you to school but I don't know how to drive." She said and I chuckled.

"Mom, I'm not a kid, it's nothing actually, dad even learnt how to drive recently, you'll certainly learn soon." I replied.

"But what if your classmates see you alight from a bike, what do you think they'll say?" She asked, concerned. She was actually right, I just wished I could tell them I was poor without being insulted.

"Mom, you don't have to worry. I'll sneak into the school." I assured her and she nodded. I walked out of the house and my Mom ran to meet me. "Your food is in your lunchbox, don't share it with anyone, I want you to eat so you don't develop stomach ulcer ." She said.

"Thanks Mom, I love you so much." I replied and noticed her expression changed after I told her those words. She seemed excited, it was actually the first time I told her that I loved her since I became Senior student.

"I love you more honey."

I walked out of the compound and stopped a bike. "Where should I take you to?" The bike man asked.

"Preston's high school." He named the amount and I paid him the amount he wanted. I marveled at the sight of the big buildings and beautiful houses as he followed another route to my school. Lisa Angeles had really developed and I was happy about that. I couldn't contain my joy... It was sma beautiful scene.

"The roads are wonderful." I blurted out and the bike man seemed to hear me.

"The roads are dangerously wonderful." He replied with sarcasm. I couldn't help but notice the humor in which he said it, it was like he was mocking someone.

"I don't understand your point sir." I said.

"When a road is too smooth, it causes a lot of accidents." He replied and I laughed. He stopped in front of the school and I came down from the bike.

I couldn't understand his point as I kept on laughing as he drove off. When the road was bad, they complained, now that the road is good, they're still complaining.

"Stop right there." A familiar voice ordered and I stopped immediately and turned back. It was …..
