Chapter 8 THE SPEECH I

There were lots of people gathered around a building. The building was extremely tall, it was painted yellow with a brown roof. On top of the building was a sign which read -: 'The City's library.' There was a red ribbon that was wrapped around the library. A man was standing by the podium, he was trying to address the crowd before him. The majority of the crowd were sitting on plastic chairs, there were a few people who were on their feet. Some were dressed in black, they were responsible for overseeing that all things went alright.

"So without further ado," The man on the podium said. "Join me to welcome the man who made all these possible, he singlehandedly contributed the money that was responsible for the make-up of this wonder that we have gathered to see," He motions over to the building. "You all know him, he's a very popular politician, he was also a great sponsor during the time for the yellow fever vaccine campaign. I present to you our most beloved philanthropist, and politician. Jude Hones!!!!"

The crowd went wild, most of the people who were sitting got to their feet. They began to slap their hands furiously, he was loved by the people of this city. Why wouldn't he be? He had helped them on several occasions so they couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude to him.

Jude Honks got up from a chair that was adjacent to the podium. He was roughly 5'10 in height. He had auburn-colored hair, deep-sea blue eyes, and a strong chin. He was of athletic build and had rosy pink lips, he was handsome by every standards. He was dressed in a white checkered suit, he kept a straight face as he walked towards the podium. The crowd got even wilder, their hands were being jammed furiously. He was getting more love and cheer than even celebrities got from their fans.

He eventually got to the podium, the man who was addressing the crowd turned towards him. "Big fan!" He says excitedly.

"As expected," Jude answered him without a smile on his face. "Keep doing what you are doing, you are also an invaluable asset to this place. If there's any way I can help the people of this city, I can trust on you to let me know, right?"

"Yes!" The man was excited. "You can."

"Good," Jude replies. "Good work can be done by a man but great work is impossible without the unity of the people."

The man was about to say something else but a man that was roughly 190 centimeters came behind him. "I don't know if you have noticed," He began. "But the nice philanthropist has got people standing on their feet who are dying to hear him speak. You are the only thing that's standing in their way from hearing the greatest speech that can ever be given from a mortal tongue."

The man was astonished as he thought 'How did he suddenly get behind me? I didn't hear his footsteps at all, maybe it was as a result of the noise of the crowd.'

"You are right," he sighs. "How could I have been so absorbed in myself! I will be leaving now," the man ends as he leaves, he was also 190 cm tall. "Jude's P.A can be such a dreg," he muttered to himself.

"Thanks for that," Jude grins to his Personal assistant.

"Wonder why you are thanking me with your words. The money you consistently pay me is all the appreciation I need," he answers as he leaves.

Jude grinned evilly to himself as he stood before the podium. His face suddenly morphed from a cold expression into cheerful smiles. "Good morning, people of New York!"

"Morning!" The crowd chanted back.

"I would appreciate if y'all can get back on your seats."

As he said that, the crowd got back on their seats. When Jude had seen that they had all sat down, he continued. "This event isn't because of me. I am only a man who's grateful that he could be given this honor." Jude got down from the podium. "Never been the 'standing in just one spot' type," his eyes began to peer at the different people present, there were teenagers seated amongst the crowd. "I am gonna ask a question now. How do we know that today is Wednesday, and not Friday or Thursday? I mean we have got the sun to let us know it's day or the moon to tell us it's night. We have various indicators that let us know which season it is but for the specific name of the day, we have no visible indicator, how then do we know what today's date is supposed to be?"
