Chapter 4 4

It was the break time. Not waiting for the bell to finish ringing, the students all shouted and ran outside to play their social activities. Sophia was busy solving some calculations with Emily beside her when there was not any teacher in their classroom.

As she heard the bell jingled, she tapped Emily on her back to notify her. Emily rose on her feet as soon she heard Sophia told her, packing the books she used to lay her head on while sleeping earlier inside her bag. She told Sophia to also do the same which she did. Emily walked alongside Sophia to the Lunchroom to eat their food.

Just as they were about stepping outside, she remembered that Mrs. Smith asked her to come over to the staffroom during the break. She turned to face Emily and told her "Emily, please I have to go to the staffroom now" she pleaded to her and Emily, who has been anxious to come out after a long time of sitting in the classroom, suddenly squeezed his face.

"Why don't you do that later? You know our break is a short time" she tried to tell but it didn't stick into Sophia's brain as she was being persistent to go there as soon as possible, before doing any other activities.

"Will you follow me or you go ahead so I'll meet you at the Lunchroom when I am done there?" she asked Emily, as she already knows she would go with the second option. So as Emily was about to answer her, she cut her off. "Oh No! Let's go together, Emily" she held her hand so tightly, not wanting to let her go until Emily surrendered to follow her.

"Not now, Emily" she joked and instructed her "But promise, you wouldn't stay long because I am hungry already and I cannot wait to devour my food anymore" she instructed and they both laughed. "I promised" she said and they ran towards the staffroom while they chasing themselves.

They got there not too long and Sophia dropped her lunchbox with her friend who waited for her outside while she went inside. She straightened her dress and opened the door. Sophia strolled down the staffroom to the other edge of the table where their class teacher is.

She greeted almost all the she came across in the staffroom, before she could reach her seat. "Mrs. Lawrence" Sophia called out to her while standing in her front. Mrs. Lawrence, who has been carried away with a book at her front looked up suddenly and found Sophia with her glasses on at her front. She replied "Oh! Sophia. How are you?" she asked, closing the book she was reading.

Sophia answered humbly "I am fine, ma. You asked me to see you in the morning". "Yes, I did" she replied, thinking of what she called her for exactly because she has already get carried away with the book she was reading earlier on and then, her mind clicked on what she called her for in the morning.

"Isn't it about the contest?" she asked, looking at her from her seat. "Yes, it is ma" Sophia answered.

"Okay...That's why I like you because you are always active. I have even forgotten that I asked you to come over" she smiled, showing out her Gap teeth.

"Thank you, ma" Sophia greeted.

"Okay Sophia... We are still deliberating over the matter so I'll let you know so you can inform your classmates" she told her.

"Okay ma" she answered, when Mrs. Lawrence cut her off "Less I forget... How is it about the Newcomer, Leila?" she asked Sophia to hear her response.

"I haven't met her because we just came outside from class to eat lunch that's why" she said to the teacher.

"Alright Sophia. You can help to put her through anytime you are less busy" she said and added further "because she joined you guys lately in class and you know this is your last term in High school" she remembered her.

"Yes, I know ma... I'll do just that" she replied.

"Okay then. They will soon ring the bell now so you can go over to eat your lunch before that" she told Sophia. "Thank you, ma" Sophia said and Mrs. Lawrence continued with what she was doing earlier on before the interruption from Arianna. Arianna left the staffroom and she met with her friend outside.

"Oh! Thank God. I thought you wouldn't come out again" she rolled her eyes up and Arianna jumped unto her, saying "I am sorry, Emily".

Sophia embraced her friend from the back when she was trying to leave her to go her own way. Just then, Leila saw them from afar while seeking direction to the lunchroom from one of the students. She watched them as they were cuddling each other, shouting all over the school corridor.

Before Leila could know it, they already turned to other side of the corner. She shrugged her shoulder while nodding her head to their action and she smiled to herself. Emily and Sophia arrived the Lunchroom. They found their usual spot they used to eat before the holiday. Emily sat down, with Arianna facing her.

They both brought out their food and spread it on the table, opening them so they could eat. "I've missed us like..." Emily started.

Leila found her way to the Lunchroom and went directly to order for what to eat. As they were attending to her, she scanned her eyes round the place when she saw the two jolly friends. She looked closely at them and she confirmed it was them.

Just then, one of the kitchen servants beckoned to her to have her food. She paid and collected the food from her, walking towards the direction of Sophia and Emily. When she got there, she met them discussing that they didn't even notice her so she decided to speak and said "Excuse me... May I sit with you if you don't mind".

Without Emily looking up to see who it was, she said "This is actually our spot so I don't think it can occupy us". Just as she finished answering, Sophia looked up to see who the person was and she found it was Leila. She beamed at her and said "Sure, you can".

Emily was amazed with her response because they don't like anybody being nearer to them whenever they are eating so she looked up to see who the person was and she found that it was the Newcomer. Emily managed to shift for her by adjusting, then she spoke "Sorry, I never knew it was you" she said and Leila smiled it off.

"I've been trying to even look for you so I could put you through what we've learnt in the last term because you are just joining us in High school now" she said, facing Leila.

"Oh! That's so thoughtful of you... I'll be so glad for that" Leila replied. "That's not a problem actually... We will be seeing each other around then" she said, while she continues to eat her food.

"Sure, thank you" she thanked Sophia and they both introduced themselves with Emily. Emily then turned to face Sophia and said "It seems we will need more chairs now with Leila around.

"Don't you think?" she joked.

"Absolutely" Emily answered, nodding her head along while staring into Sophia's eyes.

"Awn... I'm glad and happy to be friends with you. Thanks guys" Leila blushed.

"That makes us three jolly friends then" Sophia and Emily chorused and they both laughed, making cheers to their new friend.
