Chapter five

I got to the room I would be sleeping in. It was moderate and okay though I was claustrophobic. I had always been used to spacious rooms but well a beggar has no choice. I stowed my important things at a corner. There was a wardrobe there but I decided to leave my things at a corner instead. I wasn't planning on staying too long anyway. I sat on the bed

It was a bit hard. My butt ached a little so I stood up. I felt pains in my stomach and clutched my belly. I felt nauseous .Could it be that Clara poisoned me? We ate the pie together so that's a no. I rushed to the toilet and threw up. It seems my stomach definitely didn't agree with Clara's gooseberry pie. I was washing my face when I heard a knock. I hurriedly wiped my face with a towel and rushed to open the door. It was Jayden with a cool smile on his face.

"Oh Jay"

"So hope you like the room?

" well its okay " I said with a shrug.

"Let me guess ,not big enough for you right? He asked raising a brow and I smiled.

" You know me too well. But its okay though. I'm not complaining. Thanks so much for letting me stay "

"Anything for the queen of ice cream. Just try not to finish all the ice cream on the freezer"

I laughed.

"I won't except if it's yours "

. "You wouldn't dare"

I placed my hands on my hips in a challenging manner.

"Is that a challenge?. You know you can never win me in any challenge Jay. I always win" I said cocky and he smiled

"Just cause I was a big loser back in highschool doesn't mean I am now"

"We'll see about that "

I said and we both laughed Clara walked in on us that instant.

"What's going on? She asked curiously peering at Jayden's face .

" Oh its really nothing babe I was just checking on Kyla"

"Oh. Well you should let her settle in first. Gosh sweety,give her some breathing space! Clara said sweetly throwing a smile at me. Somehow her smile felt insincere. Was that a warning or... Nah! I was just being paranoid. She wasn't a bad person. Just a lady trying to protect her relationship. I simply nodded.

" Anyway lunch is ready babe. Its on the table"She said tilting her head in flirty way.

"Sure"

Jayden turned to face me.

"You should come join us Kyla"

I opened my mouth to say yes but I saw the smile on Clara's face disappear. I quickly shook my head.

"Its okay I'll eat maybe some other time "

"Come on babe The food'll get cold" Clara chirped in dragging Jayden along with her. I watched as they disappeared into the living room. I heaved a sigh of exasperation. Okay it was final. Jayden's fiancé had serious issues. She didn't even want me to have dinner with them!!

Well,that wasn't my problem anyway. I had to stay more focused on getting a job so I could get out of here. I slumped lazily on the bed and sprawled awkwardly. I laid on the bed for some few minutes rethinking my decisions.

Was this me? Kyla Downer's at the mercy of others? How did I ever get here and why? I was doing just fine until that bastard came along. Or should I have just succumbed to his requests. I quickly shuddered in disgust. No way. I'd rather die of a stroke. I wished one would happen to me right now. At least it'll rid me of my worries.

Since when did Kyla Downer's become a quitter? Since when did she mope?

I heard a tiny voice in my head and I sat up with a jerk. Enough of pitying myself I need to get a job. I brought out my laptop from my bag and started surfing for jobs online.

I was glued to my laptop for two good hours before I finally decided to shut them. My eyes had begin to ache me and my stomach was waging a war within. I gently laid my laptop on the mattress and stressed so hard. Getting up,I took some giant strides and flung the door open. I heard gentle laughter as I made my way to the kitchen. That was probably Clara's voice. I had to walk through the sitting room to get to the kitchen. They were watching TV together. Clara seated on Jayden's laps. I smiled to myself. Essh! Lovebirds. I walked steadily in order not to attract their attention. I opened the fridge . The sound must have gave me away as they turned to my direction.

"Finally you're out. You've been in that room for hours. Anything the matter Teeny? Jayden asked concerned and I shook my head.

" Not at all. I was just surfing the internet. Nothing special" I said taking some casserole from the fridge.

"I hope you feel okay. I mean I know its not what you're used to" Jayden said narrowing his gaze at me. Wasn't it nice to have someone who cared about you that much. Such a sweetheart.

"Its okay, its just for the meantime I'll manage .Thanks JJ" I saw the way Clara looked at me .She turned away quickly to prevent Jayden from noticing it Oh I shouldn't have called him that. But wait everyone called him that. This lady is giving me the creeps.

"You wanna join us. Your favorite show Double Blaze is on"

"Whoah really? Funny,you still remember my favorite show? Don't you ever forget something" I said in mock surprise and he chuckled.

"Well you were so annoying back then forgetting anything about you is hard"

"You wouldn't want your casserole to melt and get sticky Kyla"

Clara chirped in with a sweet and sour undertone in her voice. I quickly got the message. I was probably interrupting their moment.

"There' s no rush babe besides the fridge is always here. Kyla you should come sit with us" Jayden said but I quickly shook my head.

"No thanks I'll just eat in the room. I'm not really in the mood to watch TV" I said and rushes out of the living room. Goodness! If stares could kill Clara would have killed me by now. I must really seem like a threat to her. I just couldn't fathom why. Was it that she didn't trust Jay ? She barely knew me and someone like her couldn't probably be intimidated by me. She was a definition of what I call angelic beauty. I really wanted to get on her good side and avoid stepping on her tail. Even though Jay was my most cherished friend and I had missed him a lot, I didn't mind keeping a distance from him. The last thing I would want is to get killed because of a guy who I have completely nothing for.

I shut my room door behind me and sat on the bed. I suddenly didn't have the appetite to eat the casserole. I dropped it at a corner. Ugh God help me!

I flung myself on the bed and drifted off to sleep like I didn't have a problem in the world.
