Chapter four

I packed all my possessions into boxes of varying sizes. I had been asked to quit the apartment in a month's time and I still haven't been able to get a job. I sighed exasperated. Non of this would have happened if it weren't for that jerk called Mr whatever his name was who fired me for the most stupid reason on earth. I got to the last box and sealed it shut with a tape. Jayden had hired a moving truck to come carry my things to his new place while he would come pick me up in his car. I heard a car honk and moved towards the window to kook outside. I smiled. He was already here. I picked up my handbag and scurried outside.

"Wow. Aren't you early Mr" I said as we embraced.

" I didn't want to keep her ice cream majesty waiting" He said and I laughed.

"Is that who I think it is!?

I heard a high pitched voice from behind and turned immediately. To my disappointment it was Charlotte. Oh no. Lord why cant I just disappear.

" oooh la la. Kyla baby. You never told me you had a boyfriend and he is killer handsome!

I smacked my palm on my forehead.

"He's not my........

I didn't finish the statement before Charlotte walked over to Jayden.

" Hi I'm Charlotte,one of Kyla's friends"

Friends? I asked in my mind.What an overstatement. More like annoying next door neighbour.

"Name's Jayden" Jayden answered coolly.

"You know,Kyla has never told me about you Jayden. I'm so happy for her. You two must be one heck of a couple. But how do you cope with her ? She is soooo not romantic. Or haven't you two ever gone for a ride if you know what mean" Charlotte winked at Jayden and I turned red. When would she ever learn to stop assuming and shut her big mouth! I covered my face and heaved a sigh of frustration. Jayden laughed when he saw my reaction and decided to save me from the embarrassment.

"Oh no. We're not dating. We're just friends and besides I'm engaged to someone else"

Charlotte made a sound of surprise. Her mouth in the form of an 'O'. Good! At least she would finally shut up or so I thought.

"Really? Aww that's so nice. It would have been more fantastic if it were Kyla. I would have stormed that wedding and make a day to never forget! You two just look so cute together. Cant you just break up with your fiancee? Charlotte asked like she was begging. Jayden only smiled and looked at me in a way that made me feel embarrassed

That was enough.

" I think that's enough chit chat .Jayden let's go now! I said as I pulled him towards the car.

"Believe me .I'm sure she's gonna steal your heart cause she is so nice and sweet ! Charlotte shouted from a distance. I got in the car. Jayden got in too laughing. I was a bit upset.

" You have a very funny friend Kyla"

"She is definitely not my friend and will never be! I said coldly.

" Come on. She seems nice enough .A little crazy but I can tell she really values your friendship"

"She's just an annoying nosy poker! Nothing else." I spat out in anger and Jayden shook his head gently.

"Kyla" Jayden called.

" I don't want to talk about her. Or anything relating to her please. I already have a headache." I spoke fast to avoid any discussion and rested my head gently on the chair. I slept off.

Jayden woke me up when we got to our destination.

"Sleeping beauty. We're here"

I opened my eyes and yawned noisily. I snorted.

"Ugh thanks for disturbing my sleep." I said and came down. I looked around .We were in the suburbs .Not a lot of high rise buildings or companies. Just residential houses. I looked at the house in front of me .It wasn't too small or too big. It was just moderate. It was painted blue with a brown door. I smiled to myself. Blue had always been Jay's best colour. A lady came outside. She instantly rushed into Jayson's arms. He lifted her and swung her around making her laugh.Seeing the two of them hug and laugh made me smile. At times I wished I had something like that but I didn't believe I ever would. I wasn't ready to open my heart to anyone and would I ever be?

Jayden's voice snapped my mind out of my self wallowing. I realized I had been staring at them.

"You okay?

" I'm fine sorry for staring."

" No problem. This is Clara. She's.....

"I'm Jayden's FIANCEE. " Clara interrupted stressing the fiancee in the statement. I nodded gently.

"I'm Kyla its really nice to meet you Clara. Jayden has told me a lot about you and I'm very happy he found someone like you. A nice lady for a nice knight" I said smiling and she smiled too heartily.

"Aw thank you. He has also told me a lot about you. We have so many things to talk about" She said waving her neck- length brown hair. Her eyes shone like little diamonds. She was a little shorter than I was but extremely beautiful and she had a babyish face. I smiled .I think we would get along just fine.

"I'll excuse you ladies" Jayden said.

"No problem babe" Clara said tilting her head sweetly and Jayden walked to the car leaving us together. Clara immediately turned and faced me and asked.

"How long have you and Jayden been friends?

" Since we were toddlers. We separated when we graduated from high school"

"He says you are his best friend or something like that"

"Yeah. Well he is like a very good friend of mine"

"Hmmm. Okay then. I just want to let you know that he might have been your best friend but that was until I came in the picture. I am the only female friend and family of his. " Clara said possessively with an icy tone. I was taken a back by her coldness. Wasn't she the same nice person I was speaking with minutes ago. I only nodded and she continued.

"As you must probably know my lovely Jayden and I are getting married in a few month's time so I don't want any slip offs or anything that might ruin it .Have it at the back of your mind that you are only here to stay temporarily so don't get any ideas .If yo don't get in my way, I think we will both be able to live together in peace. Got that? She said bluntly and I nodded like a dumb little servant taking orders from her madam. I was short of words. What have I gotten myself into? She glared at me and I turned away. Jayden came from behind and placed a hand on her shoulder.

" Anything the matter sweety?

"Oh none at all. Kyla and I were just getting to know ourselves better. She is just as nice as you said" Clara said smiling sweetly like she wasn't the same person threatening me some seconds ago. I was stunned. It seemed Jayden was about to get married to a Tigress.

"Okay. The moving truck is already here. I'm gonna go help them off load. You two go inside" He said kissed Clara's forehead and left. She looked at me again deeply.

"You better start thinking of how to get a job chica. Wouldn't want things to get hot in the house" She said in a threatening tone and all of a sudden she smiled gently at me.

"You should come inside. I made goose berry pie"

"Um nah.....thanks......I think I'm good" I said shaking my head. She giggled when she saw the fear in me. The fear she had installed in me .Believe me I was scared. She held my hand softly. She must have read my mind cause her next statement was.

"Relax, I wont poison you silly. I'm a bit harsh and over protective but I am not a witch okay? Come on we'll even eat it together if you're still in doubt. Come with me" She said and I Followed her. It was like following someone who wanted to harm you. I prayed in my heart never to step on her tail.
