Chapter 4 The Betrayal

I was about to say further when suddenly a shadow appeared in the doorway of hall. The sun was setting which was giving hazy effect at the doorway. So, I was having problem to see the face of the person.

The shadow became clearer as the person came closer and stood beside the sofa. My heart stopped for a minute. I couldn't believe on my eyes. I didn't know whether I was dreaming or not.

Gaurav was standing right in front of me. His facial expressions were blank. I abruptly stood up from sofa and held his arm. "Gaurav , how did you find me? You specially came here for me?" I asked him in disbelief. Although I never loved Gaurav but we always treated each other with equal respect. I was feeling lighten to see him here. The light of hope started to illuminate again.

Gaurav put his hand on mine and freed his arm from my grip. I was processing when Malvika stood beside him and patted his back. "Good work, Gaurav. I know I can count on you". There was satisfied grin on their faces. I was feeling that my world has completely spun around me.

"You said that it's possible that you are not virgin". Malvika said while moving towards me slowly. "While Gaurav made sure that you remain untouched by getting engaged with you".

I felt betrayed. Gaurav was working for her. Why he betrayed me like this. My eyes were burning but there were not any tears.

Then Malvika continued," You know you fainted on your engagement. That day Gaurav brought you to the hospital immediately." Then she stopped for bit and crossed her arms "well, the reason yours unconsciousness the drug Gaurav added into your drink. He took you to the hospital where our doctors could do your virginity test."

My eyes widen in shock. I was looking at Malvika and then back to Gaurav in shock. It was like someone punched me hard in my stomach. My virginity test, without my knowledge! I was feeling sick.

Somehow I managed to still my breath and asked, "What do you want from me? It's not like that I am the only one who is both manglik and virgin."

Malvika stilled her gaze on my face for a moment. After passing few seconds she finally said, "Yes, we can get anyone. But you know it is very difficult to find a manglik girl who is virgin and things got more difficult when we don't need only beautiful face but caring nature also."

"That's true that we can find any girl. But whoever we found they either not virgin or have beautiful face. Who have they just think about themselves but not family."

Then she looked at me and said," but you Amayra, you have soft spot for your family and loved ones. You can easily agreed to this marriage and remain shut if the life of your loved ones is at stake."

My heart almost stopped by hearing her words. Why is this marriage is so important for this woman? "what will you get from this marriage?" I asked finally.

She looked at me angrily." That's not your concern. Your only concern is the safety of your family which is in your hands only." She said aggressively.

"And one more thing. If Yug ask you about your family then you will tell him that you lost your parents in an accident when you were very young and I am your only aunt who sent you Punjab for your upbringing to a relative and never allowed you to come here. Am I clear?" she arched her eyebrow.

My eyes were burning from crying continuously and my mouth was dry so I just nodded.

"Good girl" she hugged me. But I was frozen at my place as ice. I couldn't react.

"Now go and take some rest. Tomorrow you are going to meet Yug. You need to look fresh." She signalled the women who took me to the room.

As I stepped inside. The door was locked again. My legs had given up and I smashed on the floor and cried harder. My whole makeup was smudged with tears. I took off the jewellery furiously and threw it across the room. Feeling helpless, I cried to my sleep.
