Chapter 4 Unusual job

Olive spent the coming days in her car. She showered at her gym before going around the city to look for a job and she wasn't really having the best of luck.

She went from interview to interview the entire week, in pet shops and veterinary clinics. The animal hospital she used to work at, blacklisted her in the whole city. The reason why she couldn't find a job related to veterinarian medicine and was too overqualified to be a dog groomer.

It was 7:00 on a rainy Thursday night. She didn't bring an umbrella so she couldn't walk to her car, so she decided to just sit and wait for the rain to stop. 'Great! Can this day get any more worst?' she said to herself. She wanted to cry but she's a fighter and she refused to show weakness.

"I need someone who works on scales and shells," a foreign man said to the receptionist. It was obvious that his English was subpar and he forgot the word reptiles.

"We mostly work with dogs, cats, fishes, hamsters sir, can you be a bit specific," the receptionist answered politely but was low key shutting him down.

"You Americans! You think I don't have any money!" He spat. He sounded quite desperate. Like someone was going to kill him if he doesn't find anyone to care for his concerns.

"Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to step outside," the security guard then escorted the foreign man out of the establishment.

Olive watched and couldn't bear not to find them rude. The man couldn't speak English well and looked so anguished at the same time, so she followed him out of the establishment.

"Sir, do you need any help?" She asked but the man just stared at her angrily.

"I'm a vet as well. Do you need help with your pet?" she added. The man looked so relieved when she said that.

"Yes! Yes! My boss pets... snakes and tartaruga, they die without medicine. No dogs," Olive then realized that the reason why the man looked so worried was that his pets were not in a good condition. "I pay you, thousands!" He said.

Olive thought about it. If this man was telling a lie, she was done for anyway, so she agreed to it and decided to drive over with her equipment and medicine.

The man was driving an expensive car and was wearing a nice suit. Even though he was ridiculed at the vet hospital, he looked like he came from money.

When she drove over to the address given to her, she couldn't help but be surprised at the vast gates that guarded the residences. There was a big letter M sign on the gate and it was heavily guarded by security.

"Who are you here for?" The guards asked.

"I'm a vet. I'll be doing service on this property," she then handed the card given to her by the man he met an hour ago. He went here first since Olive still had to ready her equipment and got lost along the way.

The guards then opened the electric gates for her. The main house was 100 kilometers away from the gates and the residence was covered with lush gardening and heavily guarded men. "Is this a mafia?" she joked to herself.

At the entrance stood the man. He opened the door for her and offered to park the car. Olive was then greeted by Flavio a middle-aged man who spoke with the same foreign accent. "Are you the doctor Juancho got?"

"Yes, my name is Olivia Petsch. You can call me Olive," she introduced herself. "Call me Flavio," he then shook her hand. Her beauty radiated in the house filled with big brusque men who were walking around catching a glimpse of the doctor.

Before she could enter another man raised her hands up as if groping her. "Hey!" She stepped back.

"Manuel here will be frisking you before you enter, this is for safety measurements. Will also be inspecting your bag. Don't worry he is professional," Olive couldn't help but find it weird. "Aren't there any females who can do it instead?"

"We're running out of time Ms. if you don't attend to these animals, I believe there would be trouble," Flavio said and true to his words, Manuel professionally frisked Olive's body and it didn't make her uncomfy.

After she was checked, she was then led inside the victorian style mansion. The colors were mostly black and dark. She was then led into the office not too far from the main entrance.

"I'll be needing you to sign this contract." Olive looked at the contract that stated 'Non-disclosure agreement' and her heart started beating fast.

"You are not to tell anyone about what you see or hear inside this place. You will attend to the animals until they are of health. You can name your price," Flavio said. "Don't worry, you are not the ones in danger here. They are!"

"I'll have to see them myself first before I could charge. But for home service consultations, I'd say that's a $150," she stated dumbly. For sure whoever owned this place could buy her soul but she felt intimidated so she started splurting useless words. Flavio smirked and passed the pen to Olive.

"Just write the invoice. We'll handle the rest," after Olive read the whole contract, she realized that this person might be an A-list celebrity or politician and so she didn't question. After signing it she was handed tea and sandwiches before they went into the house at the back of the 19000sq. foot home.

The place was quite dark and unusual. She almost felt like she was going to be trafficked by these men. But then she saw the snake enclosures. There were 2 giant snakes in the glass enclosure and from the looks of it was molting unevenly and looked very weak.

Olive couldn't help but feel remorse for the animals.
