Maudy's heart ached. How could his clueless sister have to suffer from such a disease. He who is poor also has to think about the operating costs whose figures are fantastic as if they are not real money. It's still a minor operation. The doctor said that as long as the heart transplant had not been done, it was possible that operations would be carried out whenever his sister's condition worsened.
"But don't worry! Usually, if it goes well, this operation will keep your sister healthy for a long time."
"What's old like, Doc?" Maudy asked.
"More than six months. However, he must remain in intensive care in the hospital!"
'Hah! What the hell is that? Is six months a long time? I couldn't breathe at all. I haven't been able to fulfill the fifty million,' Maudy thought frantically.
His hands were busy scribbling a small book in front of him. He has written many things from earlier, ranging from other loan plans, the possibility of doing many jobs at once or those that don't interfere with his main work schedule, jobs that quickly make money, to selling organs? Ah, Maudy immediately crossed out the choice strongly. 'I also need to be healthy so I can earn money and take care of Alysa,' he thought.
"Forgive me God!" he whispered in a small prayer. How could he ever think stupidly want to sell his internal organs? Even if that was the case, how would he be able to take care of his sister if she was in such an unwell?
"I thought you were here!"
Maudy, who was daydreaming, immediately closed the book containing the scribbles on her hand when she saw who had come. However, Marcel had already seen the writing. Maudy realized that and looked away with a red face.
"What else are you here for?" asked Maudy curtly. The person who was asked even smiled with joy because he felt he was holding an important card from his enemy.
"I came to propose to you. Aren't you flattered?" asked Marcel casually.
"What? La-mar?" Unknowingly, Maud spelled out a word that confused his mind.
"Yes. Apply. Have you never heard of the word propose?" asked Marcel. "Or...yes, my goodness, or maybe you've never been proposed to or haven't even been in a relationship?"
The girl looked at Marcel full of anger. "Do you think the word propose is used by people to play games?" he hissed with a sneer.
She looked at Marcel with hate and anger, but in her heart she admitted it one hundred percent. Since then, he was only busy working and thinking about his sister. Have you ever thought about dating? He never even thought about getting married someday.
"I'm sure I didn't. I didn't say that as a joke. Well, I also wanted to ask you. Do you think the numbers on your paper are play money numbers?" said Marcel with no less cynical face.
Maud was silent for a moment. He seemed to have guessed something from Marcel's words but he wasn't sure. "Explain what you mean. Just tell me what you really want! My brain can't handle riddles right now."
"Wow!" Marcel chuckled and clapped his hands three times. "You're smart too, aren't you. It's not wrong that you went to a top university."
"Are you spying on me?" accused Maudy of being on the verge of exploding with emotion.
"Calm down! Don't be angry, honey. You'll get wrinkled quickly. My aim is good, really." Marcel leaned closer to Maudy and whispered, "I just wanted to help, my dear!"
"Shut up, you. Who loves you?" Maudy pushed Marcel's body in annoyance. He quickly grabbed his bag and left the place.
"Maud. Wait! Wait! Listen to me first," said Marcel as he continued to follow Maudy.
The woman kept walking without heeding Marcel's words. 'In fact, now he dares to say my nickname,' thought Maudy irritably.
"Looks like they're a grumpy couple," said a grandmother dressed in patient clothes.
"So remember our youth," said a grandfather who was with the grandmother.
Maudy held back her embarrassment as she quickened her pace. Marcel followed in silence. They didn't speak a word until they entered the payment room. Actually, Maudy wanted to confirm the last date for the payment of her sister's surgery costs. However, because the man was following him, Maudy pretended to pass by. Suddenly Marcel grabbed Maudy's hand and pulled her closer. Maudy felt that she couldn't contain her anger any longer towards this impudent man. He was ready to beat the man up, but didn't because Marcel seemed to be pulling him closer to a married couple.
"Marcel. Where have you been? He... who?" asked the middle-aged woman wearing branded clothes. That woman is Kirana, Marcel Beret's mother.
"This is my girlfriend, Ma. She's my future wife."
"Future wife?" Kirana looked at Maud with a suspicious look. "Really? Isn't it because you don't want me to match you up?"
"Mom... no, Auntie!" Maudy moved her hand to move Marcel away from her.
"Wow, so you're really his girlfriend? You even defended Marcel," Kirana said with a happy face.
"Not a girlfriend I mean," continued Maudy.
"You are right, Marcel. Is this because we want to match you?" asked Yutama, Marcel's stepfather who is of mixed Indonesian-Japanese descent.
He seems to be surrounded by good and rich people, Maudy thought.
"Hey. That's okay. I'll pay for all of your sister's medical expenses," Marcel whispered in Maudy's ear. The girl widened her eyes at Marcel's offer.
"It seems that he is so insecure, Ma, Pa. Even though I told you that Mama and Papa would not do anything bad to their future son-in-law just because he was poor. Even though we were very compatible and agreed to get married. That's why I always refused to be matched , said Marcel confidently.
"Really? Is it true, son? What's your name?" Kirana asked while looking at Maud with hopeful eyes. "Come on, don't be shy."
"I'm Maudy, Auntie. That...that is if Aunt and Uncle don't mind." Maudy answered while pinching Marcel's arm secretly. The boy bit his lip in pain. I didn't expect a woman's pinch to hurt so much.
"That's good then. Ah, you guys love each other too, huh. Hmmm... how about we have a wedding at the end of this month?"
"What?" Maudy couldn't believe what she heard. "Isn't that too soon Auntie? Actually... we haven't talked about that yet." Maudy gave a pitiful facial expression.
"Then, just talk about it now. Early next month, we have to go abroad," said Kirana to which Yutama replied with a smile. "Besides, Marcel must have told him about his grandfather being sick. His request is for Marcel to get married and add a new member to our family."
"But..." Maudy looked at Marcel, shaking her head. Marcel put his arm around the confused Maudy's shoulder.
"We go first, son. Come to the house. We will take care of your wedding preparations together. Until the wedding day arrives, you just sleep at home, Cel. Just leave your house empty until the wedding day," Kirana said. The man took his wife away.
Geez. Children and parents are crazy, huh? thought Maudy.
Bruk.
Maudy kicked Marcel's calf.
"Ouch!" Marcel jumped in pain.
"Explain! What does all this mean? Are you and your family weirdos?" Maudy asked annoyed.
"You can say I'm weird, but don't be mom and dad, Maudy. There's a reason for this. But you don't need to know because you're not officially my wife yet. My grandfather is seriously ill."
"Then?"
"Like my parents said earlier, they want me to get married soon."
Maudy held back her irritability. "Okay. Explain what you mean by paying all my sister's medical expenses!" Maudy crossed her arms waiting for an explanation from Marcel.
"I'll pay for all of your sister's medical expenses. You see...I don't think how many times there's a riddle in that sentence. Obviously I made a simple sentence that's easy to understand," challenged Marcel. "I thought you were smart."
"Okay. Okay. I just want to make sure. I haven't agreed to marry you. I need to be clear about everything. All that cost...that...including the twenty billion I need to pay for my sister's heart transplant if there is a donor later. ?"
"Yep," Marcel said with a smile.
Maudy felt her head expand from astonishment. "Including the remaining payment for my sister's surgery?"
"Hmm....yes."
"That's...thirty million more, you know..." Maudy said.
Marcel nodded in agreement.
"Including all the other surgeries to be performed and the cost of the hospital stay?"
"Yeah, Maud."
Maudy looked at Marcel with a suspicious look. "So what do you want? I don't like you and never imagined living my whole life with you."
Marcel laughed haughtily. The way he laughed was more like an insulting snort.
"Don't worry. I don't like you either. I really don't even like you."
Maudy felt insulted by Marcel's words even though she didn't really want him to like her at first. Why? Of course because Maudy wanted to hate him freely.
"Two years. Let's get married for two years and then divorce. I will pay for your sister's medical treatment as well as you while living in the same house with me."
Two years, huh? Twenty billion and other expenses like it, well worth it for my sister's recovery, Maudy thought.
"Of course, the first condition from me is never to love me! Never like me as a member of the opposite sex. Second, to be affectionate when in front of others like a harmonious husband and wife. If no one is watching, please act like a stranger. However, remember! During those two years I've paid you a lot, so treat me like a housekeeper."
What request is that? Maudy gritted her teeth hard. Did he just give up?
"And the most important thing is that during those two years, you have to give me a child," Marcel said.
