Chapter 7 Excellent Acting Skills

Eliana's POV:

I felt my scalp tingle.

They came with weapons to catch a married woman with another man?

Oh, my God! The gigolo was doomed.

As I stood there paralyzed with fear and indecision, I thought about Adrian and Aileen and how much they resembled their father. He might not be the husband I wanted, but he was still the father of my children.

No matter the grudges we might hold against each other, life had to go on.

No. I couldn't let him get killed.

"Eliana? Are you there? Hey, answer me!" Gabrielle's harsh voice through the phone snapped me back to reality.

I hung up without replying to her. I rushed into the cafe before the three men could enter.

Then, I hurled myself at the man that fate chose to father my twins. I took a deep breath and sobbed, "There you are. Let's not fight anymore, okay? I love you. Please let's make up."

Maurice's POV:

Looking at the tearful Eliana in my arms, I squinted and asked, "What are you doing?"

She stared straight into my eyes and put a hand over her belly. As a tear rolled down her cheek, she said, "Please don't leave me again like that. The stress is not good for the baby."

All of a sudden, the cafe erupted with whispers.

"What a scum! He has a wife and a baby on the way and still goes out with another woman!"

"Good-looking men are indeed insatiable devils."

I was speechless.

Was this woman crazy? We had sex five years ago. How was she pregnant now? This was ridiculous!

I hissed, "Get off me."

"No. Honey, please. Let's just go home and talk." Eliana wrapped her arms around my waist and leaned against my chest, which surprised the hell out of me.

I was about to push her away, but when I looked down, I saw her tear-stained face, and I felt a pinch in my heart.

"Sir..."

As soon as Tina opened her mouth, I raised my head and nodded at her.

Tina dipped her chin in acknowledgement, stuffed her iPad into her bag, and left.

She had been working for me for many years and helping me gather information on Gerald.

Eliana kept looking at Tina until Tina was out of sight.

Eliana turned her head back and saw me watching her carefully.

As her cheeks bloomed with color, she quickly let go of me and stepped back.

But I snaked an arm around her waist and pulled her close to me. With a faint smile on my lips, I said, "Why are you letting go of me now, honey? Are you suddenly shy?"

She widened her eyes and cleared her throat. "I'm not shy. It's just..." she trailed off.

I raised my eyebrows and waited for her explanation.

But she took a deep breath and looked outside.

Following her gaze, I saw three brawny men enter the cafe and then stand by the door like a three-piece human barricade.

"Run!"

All of a sudden, Eliana grabbed my hand and dragged me toward the cafe's side door.

I was startled, which was rare for me. "Why are we running?"

However, before she could answer, I saw a man walking toward us. It was the fat pervert who hassled Eliana at the club.

"Eliana? How dare you show your face around here?" the fat man yelled and shot Eliana a death glare. He approached her and attempted to grab her. "You're going to have to do better than a measly dinner to apologize to me!"

Eliana moved quickly to avoid the fat man's hand.

Before the fat man could make another move, I raised my leg and kicked him away.

"Ah!"

he screamed in pain.

He fell and then curled up like a chunky worm on the ground.

Eliana stared at me in astonishment for quite a while, unable to speak.

"You're welcome," I said while keeping my eyes on the fat man on the ground. I felt good kicking his disrespectful butt.

Looking back anxiously, Eliana grabbed my hand again and started running.

"Hey! Why are we running?" I asked again.

"Stop asking so many questions!" Eliana snapped back at me while catching her breath.

We ran and ran until we were in a semi-deserted place.

Out of breath, Eliana stopped running and braced her hands on her knees. She said, "They... they didn't catch up with us, did they?"

I stared at her, secretly raised my hand and waved behind me. "Whoever it is you're referring to, no, they didn't."

The three hulking men stopped their pursuit and disappeared around a corner.

Hearing what I said, Eliana breathed a sigh of relief.

But I still hadn't gotten my answers. I grabbed her wrist and pulled her into my arms.

I put a finger under her chin and tipped her head up. I looked deeply into her beautiful, panicked eyes.
