Chapter 6 A Two-faced Piece Of Work

The man walked straight to me and smiled at me.

I was confused because I had no idea who he was.

Gabrielle asked, "What did you mean by that, Mr. Jenkins?"

It turned out that the man was Corbin Jenkins. I'd heard about him from the other employees. He was the CEO's executive assistant.

Corbin sighed audibly, peered at Gabrielle, and said, "You really need to improve your comprehension skills, Miss Aston. I can't be explaining things to you all the time."

Gabrielle blushed at Corbin's thinly veiled insult, but she dared not retort.

"I'll say it again. Eliana Pierce can't leave. And that's Mr. Moran's decision."

As soon as Corbin finished speaking, everyone instantly darted their eyes on me.

Suddenly, I felt butterflies in my stomach.

Gabrielle, on the other hand, reacted violently and whined, "That's impossible! This bitch... Eliana offended an important client on her first day of working for the Moran Group. How could Mr. Moran let her stay?"

Corbin's face darkened. "Are you questioning your boss's decision, Miss Aston?"

With that, Gabrielle suddenly fell silent. She cleared her throat, smiled awkwardly, and said, "No, of course not. It's just that Antwan Blake..."

"You take care of Mr. Blake yourself. You're supposed to be guiding Eliana on her first day. This is your screw-up, not hers," Corbin remarked firmly.

I wanted to smile triumphantly, but I kept on my mask of professionalism.

Gabrielle was irresponsible, and she threw me under the bus. It was only proper that she was taught a lesson.

But why did Mr. Moran help me?

We hadn't even met.

"Eliana, it was just a misunderstanding," Gabrielle muttered, suddenly reaching out for my hand and flashing me an apologetic look.

Her pretentious expression made my skin crawl.

This woman was really a two-faced piece of work.

I dodged her touch and knitted my brows.

But Gabrielle didn't get angry. She even approached me with a smile and explained, "I left last night to go to the bathroom. I didn't expect that you'd have a misunderstanding with Mr. Blake while I was gone. It was thoughtless of me to leave you alone with him. How about this? I'll ask Mr. Blake out to dinner so that you two can sort things out, and we can continue with the project."

I scoffed, "Wow. You don't just give up, do you?"

"You..."

Gabrielle was about to lose her temper again over my comment, but Corbin narrowed his eyes at her.

She collected herself again and whispered, "If we get the project, I will share the commission with you."

I stared at Gabrielle with wide eyes. I didn't know that the project was commission-based until now. Gabrielle hadn't mentioned a word about it before.

Seeing that I didn't say anything, Gabrielle added in a low voice, "You'll get sixty percent of the commission, and I'll get forty percent."

"Deal," I responded with a faint smile. How could I refuse that kind of money?

The next day, I went to work as usual and went about my routine.

I'd waited the entire day for Gabrielle to let me know about our scheduled dinner with Mr. Blake, but I hadn't heard from her.

When it was time to clock out, I decided I wouldn't sit around and wait for Gabrielle. I shut down my computer and prepared to go home.

"Eliana!" Gabrielle shouted from behind me before I could walk out the door.

Her high heels clicked against the marble floor so loudly that I thought she was going to trample me to death.

I turned around, beamed at her, and asked casually, "Hi, Miss Aston. Have you arranged our dinner with Mr. Blake?"

"No, I haven't. Mr. Blake is still pissed about last time. He refused to meet with us." Gabrielle glared at me and shoved a note into my hand. "But I've found the hotel where he stays. Let's wait for him there. You go ahead. I'll rush over there after my meeting. And don't screw up again. This may be our last chance with Mr. Blake."

After saying that, Gabrielle rushed to the meeting room without waiting for my response.

I unfolded the note and read the address written on it. I couldn't help wondering, 'Is this another trap?'

After thinking for a while, I decided to go.

If Antwan agreed to speak to me, I wouldn't come with him to his room. We'd talk in a neutral environment where he couldn't harass me.

When I arrived at the hotel, I went to the lobby and found a seat. While waiting for Gabrielle, I noticed three men standing outside the hotel's cafe. They looked a little out of place with their hulking builds and tattoo-covered arms.

The one I assumed was the leader wore a thick golden chain around his neck. He was watching someone inside the cafe with a murderous look on his face.

Everyone that passed by avoided them.

I was also a little scared and wanted to leave. When I turned to look at the person the men were watching, I saw a familiar face.

It was the gigolo I slept with five years ago.

He was wearing a black shirt with the two topmost buttons loose, revealing his collarbone. He looked extremely sexy, but his demeanor was surprisingly cold.

He was sitting with an attractive woman who was looking straight at him and holding his hand on the table.

I couldn't believe it. I was watching the most popular male escort with one of his clients.

Then, my stomach flipped as a horrifying realization dawned on me.

Were the three burly men watching them?

At this time, the woman rose from her seat and walked around the table to his side. Her plump breasts looked like they were about to pop out of her blouse.

From where I was sitting, I could see that the woman clung to him like glue.

I turned my head back to the three men, and I saw that they had started moving toward the cafe.

The one with the golden chain around his neck clenched his fists, and his eyes were red and burning with rage.

I was stunned for a few moments.

Then, I slowly understood what was going on.

The gigolo's client was a married woman. Her husband was here with his men to catch her cheating.

Damn it! The three men were so huge that they looked like they could snap the gigolo in half like a twig. What if they beat him up right in front of everyone?

Without thinking about it, I started walking toward the gigolo and the woman, but after a few steps, I stopped.

This was none of my business. Why should I meddle in other people's affairs?

Then, my phone rang.

It was Gabrielle. "I just got off the meeting. I'll be right there. Have you seen Mr. Blake?"

"No, I..." I stammered and looked at the three men again. Their leader reached behind his waist as he marched toward the cafe with his two associates.

What was that? A pistol?
