DAVID'S POV
Life hasn't been easy since I graduated from University, I've been feeding on hand to mouth. Things get complicated by the day, and sometimes I wonder if I'm ever gonna succeed in life.
As the first child of a family of five children, the pressure was too much to handle. I had to run away from home to Lagos to squat with a friend named Jeff. Things ain't Rossy for him too, but he accommodated me cos of old times sake. We used to be good friends back then in the university.
**********
Jeff found me a job in a bar two days ago, abs today is the interview. It is quite weird though, because what is a well-trained mechanical engineer doing in a bar?
What better option do I have - none?
I just have to do it till something better comes my way.
I prepared for the job interview, and I headed to 'Tis Ventre d'ours' It is one of the biggest bars in Lagos.
The place looks so much like a party arena, flashy cars parked all at the right spot.
I walked into the building, and everywhere was filled with customers. I can see different couples facing each other as they sit across tables. Other men and women were sitting alone with expensive drinks in front of them. I don't even know some of the brands of those drinks. The structure of this place is so amazing.
Just in, I saw two ladies at the bar stand.
I walked up to them, cos they were the only staff insight, their uniforms speak volumes.
"Good morning" I greeted, directing it to none of them particularly.
Then the one who's fair in complexion replies "Good morning, how may we help you?"
For a second, I was lost looking at her alluring blue eyes, she's indeed an epitome of beauty. Her round face is enticing and innocent like a newborn child, her perfectly curved lips to my breath away that I begin to gasp for breath. I've never seen a woman as beautiful as this in my entire life, damn.
"I'm here to apply for the bartender vacancy," I said, still trying to distract myself from the interminable admiration in my heart for her.
"You're welcome. I'll take you to the manager's office, come with me," she said as she walks and I was following her lead like a lost sheep who was just found by its shepherd.
Everything about this lady is just so perfect and flawless. How curvaceous and pneumatic she is? - don't mention it, no man can resist her charm.
We go to an entrance and she walks in and asks me to stay outside so she can announce my arrival to the manager.
Moments later, she comes out and said "You may go in, the manager is expecting you"
"Thank you very much," I said appreciatively.
"You're welcome," she said and walks away. I can't stop looking at her as she walks away, and suddenly she turned back to look at me too, and our eyes met. We maintained eye contact for a few seconds until she looked away. I guess she is shy.
I walked into the manager's office and greeted "Good morning sir"
"Good morning, please have a seat" he summons
"Jeff directed you to me, right? He asked
"Yes sir" I affirmed.
"Good. What's your name?"
"My name is David sir, David Dickson," I answered.
"Alright. Jeff has told me so much about you. We need a bartender here, and he said you're the right man for the job" the manager said.
"Yes sir, I can do it," I said.
The manager looked at me consciously for a while and said "That's great, I like you. You have the job"
Just like that? I can't believe I finally have a job. I can't contain the joy in my heart right now.
"Wow! Thank you so much, sir, I'm grateful. I promise to be diligent and hardworking" I said, almost kneeling out of joy.
"I hope so, your salary is fifty thousand Naira and you'll be starting tomorrow." He said.
"That's okay sir," I said.
"Very well then, see you tomorrow" the manager concluded.
I walked out of his office with a happy countenance like I won a lottery. At least, I'll begin to do something productive with my life until something better surfaces.
Just in, I thought of the beautiful Angel that accompanied me here. I need to get to know her, I like her so much. Oops, by the way, we'll be working here together. That implies I'll get to know her better. But for now, I should at least know her name. I'll just walk to the bar stand and thank her for her kind gesture and then ask for her name.
I walked to the bar, and I saw her attending to a customer, so I had to wait till she was through.
The other girl seems to hate me, the look on her face says it all. She gets irritated by my presence, and I don't know why. At the same time, I don't care, she's not the bone of contention here. She keeps glaring at me as I wait at the bar stand for other lady to come back.
A few minutes later, the lady I was waiting for approached where I was sitting and said "Hey"
"Hi... Thank you so much for taking me to the manager's office" I said.
"You're most welcome. So did he give you the job?" She asks.
"Yes he did, I'll be starting tomorrow," I said
"That's great. Congratulations. You're welcome to Tis Ventre d'ours" she said.
"Thank you so much... My name is David, what's your beautiful name?" I asked
"I'm Omobolanle, Bola for short," she said confidently.
"That's such a superlative name for a gorgeous lady like you" I complimented.
"Oh, please, don't pull my legs like that." She said smilingly.
"I'm being honest. You're so gorgeous I must confess." I said
"Aww, thanks for the compliment," she said.
We were silent for a while, looking at each other swooningly until the devil incarnate came.
"Bola, Mr. Collins wants to see you right now.* the other girl says as she shot me a deadly glare.
"I have to go now," she said.
"Alright, I'll be on my way too. It was nice meeting you Bola. Thanks once again for your hospitality" I said.
"You're always welcome, see you tomorrow," she says and walks away.
Wow! I just got myself a new job and a new friend, what else would I have wanted? I guess the heavens are smiling at me today.
I went back home so ecstatic. I can't wait to commence work tomorrow.
