Chapter 5 Pain Keeps Me Alive

Abhaya drive the car that Yx had given them. While Jackylyn examines the folder containing the background of the person they will be watching. Mostly, Jackylyn tells her what she needs to know. She is a slacker when it comes to reading, which irritates her at times.

They stopped in front of a big mansion worth millions of dollars. Jackylyn no longer accompanying her inside. After all she's the only one needed. Jackylyn is like a lookout. Yx was no longer with her because he was flying to China the next day, and Yx was confident in their abilities.

She wore red stilettos, a red spaghetti top, a white faux leather jacket, and sexy high waist jeans. Her body is curved, and she does not appear to be an undercover agent. She look like a run away model. She's not the same person she used to be. Who would have guessed she'd act like this now, as if she owned the world?

She was still wearing sunglasses when she went inside, where the maid directed her after she said her fictitious name. She rolled her eyes at the house's luxury, but she didn't have time for it.

She noticed a man and woman in their late 60s in the living room. She quickly approached them and shook their hands after introducing herself as the one sent by Yx. She looked around, hoping to spot the man she'd be watching so she could finish the job.

"We know our son will be upset, especially since we took a girl, but we don't have a choice; we desperately need it. He almost died and was burned inside the yacht the other day," said the lady, clearly upset by the incident.

After all, what mother isn't concerned about the safety of her child? "I understand you, Mrs-" She took off her sunglasses and wait for it to reply.

"Mrs. Hayes. "

She was flabbergasted and drew back her tongue. Her heart skipped a beat when she heard the lady's last name. Hayes? She was shaken, and maybe it was just a coincidence that her last name was the same as the man she no longer wanted to see. Who cares? She was no longer interested in the man.

"You can rely on me, Mrs. Hayes. I solemnly promised that we'd do everything to protect your son," she said flatly, but everything she said was true.

"Thank you Ms. Kianna Trunt, we're glad to hear that," the couple said at the same time.

"Who is she?" A voice echoed through the house like thunder and lightning.

She stood up and turned around gracefully to introduce herself to the man, bringing her world to a halt for a brief moment. The man in front of her now was the man she didn't want to see again, the man she had cursed to die!

She immediately removed the shock and reapplied the mask, which should not have been used because she had buried it for a long time. She pretended not to recognize him and smiled sweetly at him.

I'm going to kill you on this one, Yx. This is complete nonsense. She screamed in her head.

She could see the shock in Hudson's eyes when he saw her and obviously couldn't believe the sight of her beauty. She wanted to laugh sarcastically; it was impossible that Hudson still knew her, and just in case, she might hang a medal around his neck with great verve. It should be honored for that!

"Hello, my name is Kianna Trunt! Your personal assistant, also known as your bodyguard. Nice to meet you, Doctor Hayes," she said emphatically. She is disgusted even when she pronounces his name. Hudson's face was expressionless as she stared at him and stepped closer to her.

"Son, we hired-"

"Don't worry, Mom, she's hired," he said, interrupting his mother.

The two elders were stunned and looked at each other, obviously unable to believe what they were witnessing, but they did not speak any further. Excitement can be seen in their eyes, and it appears that they had no hesitation in agreeing to escort her.

"What's your name again?" Hudson sat on the single sofa.

She sat up and smiled with no emotion. "Kiana Trunt."

It stared her down as if he was reading her, and she just let him because Hudson could never read her. If she'd known Hudson was the man they're protecting, she'd never agreed to this assignment!

"You look familiar," he said flatly.

"Really?" She didn't want to answer him, but she didn't have a choice.

"I believe we should leave. Bye, son. We're still going to see Cuhen's twin. Kiana, we'll go first. Thank you once again." Ahis parents say as they wave her goodbye. She only nodded.

She was awed by the news that Ellah and Cuhen had twins and secretly smiled, happy for the couple. How would Ellah react if they saw each other? It's ironic because this is her first assignment in the Philippines. She mostly digs her own grave abroad.

Hudson immediately let her come to his meetings. Surprisingly, Hudson never complained about her role as his bodyguard, despite the fact that she is a woman. Pfff! Maybe it's one of those women he hurt before who are trying to kill him now. Protecting him? She wanted to laugh. She might have backed out if it hadn't been for Yx and if she had just read the information.

They were sitting alongside in the passenger seat, both silent. She and the young Doctor both just stared straight ahead. This is the most difficult assignment she has ever had! Her fist was clenched. Why, of all people, is she still here with the person she still despises?

"What agency do you work for, Ms. Trunt?"

She twisted her eyeball in private. She would rather not speak, but since he is now the boss, she's obligated to answer every question.

"Ask your mother about it, Doctor Hayes."

He gave her a surprised look, but she ignored it. She's too tired to give a damn.

"She looks exactly like you," he said later, his gaze fixed on the road.

She did not respond. She simply looked ahead and hoped that they would arrive at their destination. The only thing that bothers her is that she watches him 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which means she can always see Hudson.

She tried to sneak a glance at him and read him with her eyes, but nothing changed; Hudson was difficult to read. Abhaya noticed that the man had changed a lot during her nearly two-year absence. It grew even hotter and more devilishly handsome. His hair was a mess on top, and the scent of the aftershave indicated that he had just shaved. She was shaken as she remembered the man was a demon.

When she saw the Hayes Group of Hospitals, she clenched her fist. Her heart felt like it was pounding as she remembered the past. How many nights does she cry while sleeping and waking up every time she recalls the reason for her child's death? She should have been the little angel who was now smiling at her.

As they exited the car, she quickly erased that from her mind. Kianna Trunt is her name, and former Abhaya Kienne Sahada is no longer with us.

Hudson took the lead, with her close behind. She looked around and read every human movement; she didn't notice anything unusual, but everyone who passed by was staring at them. She was, in fact, wearing sunglasses. She wanted to laugh but didn't want to look like a lost model that day, so she followed Hudson's lead.

She spotted Jackylyn in the lobby, dressed formally and holding a folder in one hand. It gave her a go signal by waving at her. She simply nodded, and they proceeded to the man's elevator. She would not want to enter this hospital if she were to be questioned. There were many bad memories left here, and she admits that she is still hurt by what happened to this day.

"As my bodyguard, I'd like to clarify something with you."

"Shoot!" she uttered as the elevator open for them.

Hudson paused for a moment, taken aback by her response. "Are you certain you'd be able to handle this job? You're frail and-" he cast a brief glance at her, "a woman. "

She couldn't help laughing. She didn't respond, but quickly moved her fist to Hudson's face, which he also avoided as if he expected her to hit him. But she wasn't finished yet, and because they were the only two in the elevator and there was plenty of space, she immediately hooked her hand on his and her other hands hit the man's face. As before, the young doctor was able to make ends meet with only one hand.

She was attacking him while the elevator is going to 47th floor, while Hudson did nothing but dodge his punch. Hudson used one hand while she used her hand and elbow. She believes she was vastly underappreciated! She moved faster and faster until her fist shattered the glass wall.

She quickly turned around behind Hudson and nudge his neck with her elbow, but he resisted once more. Hudson was caught off guard when one of her knees caught him and struck the man's thigh. She grinned as it bent to its knees. She attacked again, intending to give it a strong kick in the face, but Hudson unexpectedly pulled her foot away.

She fell and was only saved by the floor. It spilled out even after her sunglasses were removed. Hudson grins as if to show her defeat, but she quickly clasps a leg around its neck and turns to ride it on his neck using an unusual technique.

Hudson was lying down on the floor, but she didn't seem to mind. As she rode him in front, she smiled at the feeling of victory. She was unaware of how awkward their situation was.

"Now tell me, Doc Hayes, I'm still just 'a woman?'" she snarled.

But she wasn't expecting the sudden movement of their bodies, and she had no idea how Hudson managed it because she was certain she was tightly gripping Hudson's neck. She exclaimed when she realized the two of them were in a bad position.

She was now trapped on both sides because she was under him and the young doctor was on top of her. Their hands clasped, and the weight of him was one of the factors that brought her to a halt. Bullshit! It increased the pressure on her, preventing her from moving.

It gave her a soul-stirring gaze, "Tell you what, Ms. Trunt? I win." There is no emotion.

They were on the 27th floor when the elevator doors opened exactly on time. She had probably taken the elevator for the longest time in her life. As if nothing had happened, the man stood up, picked up his attaché case, and walked out first.

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment to cool down before picking up the broken sunglasses. It was only then that she realized one of her hands was covered in wounds and was bleeding profusely. She quickly went out and followed the Doctor before her memory betrayed her.

She is grateful, and she no longer cares about him. She is filled with hatred and disgust, and one day she will retaliate in a way that will cause him even more pain. She promised his parents that she would protect him, and she will do so for the time being.

All she has to do now is figure out who wants to kill Hudson as soon as possible so she can break free from the man's grip. When she sees his emotionless eyes, it's as if she's dragged back in time, and it hurts her heart even more.

She sat on the couch, bored. She was also unconcerned about the bleeding hand. She has been numb for a long time, but she still hurts when she recalls the past, which she has long forgotten. That wouldn't be a problem, she said with a shake of her head. The agony she felt was the reason she became like this, brave, and able to stand in front of Hudson as if nothing had happened. She became friends with the pain that had always enslaved her over time.

Hudson stood up and approached her, dark-faced, quickly taking her hand. She raised an eyebrow. It was only then that she noticed he was carrying a medicine kit.

She quickly withdrew her hand, "Thanks, but no thanks."

"I'm the doctor here."

"Doctor Hayes, this is my life. I don't care if you're the local doctor; I know how to look after myself. See? There were no wounds on my body that never healed during my assignment. Doctor Hayes, pain keeps me alive," she said solemnly as she stood up. She dashed down the hall to the restroom to clean the wound herself.
