Chapter 2 Job interview

Due to the research I made before sleeping last night about the company, I woke up late, it took me 20 minutes before getting ready for the job interview and one hour before arriving at the company, as I alighted from the Uber I took and walked straight to a big building with a big brown gate. I made my way towards the security guard sitting beside the gate.

"Good morning sir," I said to the aged man fast asleep on the bench with his mouth open and drool dropping on his hand which he used as a pillow to support his head.

I said again, "Good morning sir," but this time loud for him to jerk forward from his sleep. The man jumped up from the bench like a thief caught red-handed.

"Morning," he said using his right hand to clean the drool sticking on his face. What can I help you with he said in an angry tone adjusting his trousers.

"Eeeeeeeew," I said. "I am here for a job interview, please hurry up and open the gate because any minute from now I will be late.

"Oh, so you are the person the receptionist told me about yesterday," he said "But you are late for the job already. Let me just give some advice go back to wherever you were coming from because as I far as I know of the boss of this company, coming late is his number one prohibited rule which nobody dares to forfeit in this company and as for you, your case is critical," he said with a wide smile face on his face.

"Can you please just open the gate sir?" I told him. Who was he to tell me what to do, he really needs to get fired from his job because as well as I know his business is to open and close the gate not to interrogate and conclude on my fate. With a lot of arguments, the man eventually opened the door for me and I wasn't able to even ask for the receptionist office due to his attitude.

As I walked into the company, I managed to get the direction of the receptionist office wrong and my phone could have been helpful but the battery was totally down. Today was just not my day I said out loud in a frustrated tone, before I realized what I was doing, I had opened the terrace floor door which shut behind me with a resolute thunk leaving me no option but to start panicking. I got fed up of banging on the door and started looking for another way out of my mess.

Turning to my left I could see a small door which I kicked open with my left foot and to my bewilderment a man dressed in an expensive suit with glasses was sitting on a well-furnished chair holding a file with his eyes glued to it. He didn't even notice when I walked into his office until I greeted him.

"Good morning," I said. "Can you please do me a favour by showing me the CEO's office, also I have a complaint about your security guy..." I wasn't able to finish my statement when I heard a loud thud from the file he dropped on the table. He lifted his eyes piercing into mine,

" And who are you and what made you think you can give a complain about any of my staff," he asked with a Stern face.

"Actually....," I said. "I'm here for a job interview for the post of the personal assistant of the CEO," I removed my gaze from him. I just don't why am suddenly feeling hot just by looking at his face. I gaze through the room to make sure the air conditioner was on and to my surprise it was.

"Well....well.... well...., look who finally showed up for the interview if it isn't miss attitude, so you are the special person my receptionist had been talking about non-stop, but to my disappointment you are nothing compared to what she talked about, lastly find your way out of my office because you are late for the interview."

Everything he said entered my right ear and passed out of my left, my attention had drifted away since the first word he mentioned thrice since I am fully admiring the design of the office, like seriously I hadn't seen an office as big as this and well furnished. The architect really did a good job as I thought to myself smiling.

"Please get out of my office now," he said out loud as if my presence was like a thorn on his skin.

That was the statement that brought me back to reality. "Sir....... Please hear me out," I told him. "Please just give me five minutes of your time to talk, I really need this job," now I sounded so desperate.

"Sir Please," I said again.

"Sit," he said pointing to the chair opposite him. "Now let's start with the interview," he added. "After the introduction I will ask you three questions, if you are able to answer them then the job is yours and make the introduction snappy, I don't need to know about your personal life or family life."

"Isabelle Johnson, that's my name. I studied economics in Harvard University and graduated with a first-class degree," I told him. I worked as a manager in UBA bank and a former staff in Velvet Vinos company but got sacked due to some reasons."

"Hmmmm...sacked from previous work place, we will come back to that."

"First question, why do you think you are capable of this post," he asked.

"Sir," I said with confidence. "I might be an economist but working here will be my dream come true and I have a sensitive taste bud which will be very helpful for you to know the perfect taste for your wines."

"Second question, according to you what is your weak point and strong point?"

"I face all my situations whether bad or good and as for the weak point, I don't think I have any and when I know it, I will use it as a strength to boost me." I answered him.

"Ok, if you are given the biggest project in your career which the contract could help your company which is at the bridge of collapsing and your honesty is being tested what will you do?" he asked rubbing his palms together.

I thought to my self for some seconds before finally answering him. "Like I said earlier I face my situation whether bad or good, firstly about my honesty being tested, I won't partner with someone like that so I will let God take absolute control and lead me through it," I said standing up from the chair. "As for me anything beyond me is for God, I won't give in to temptation no matter how important the project maybe because what is wrong will forever be wrong and..." I hesitated before continuing.

"I think you need to change your perspective about people and sorry to say you are fucking rude."

After my statement everywhere became silent for a while, I opened my bag and took my CV and dropped it on his table.

"Get out," he said in a commanding tone.

"What!" I said in a shocked tone. "Just like that? Are you kidding me, so the questions I answered were for nothing?" I asked him again but with no response from him just his hand pointing towards the door.

I took my handbag and marched out of his office but not without shoving my middle finger at him.
