Chapter 7 Sweet Moments

The man stared at my eyes not saying anything and I stared him back in the eye as if to show my determination, after long silence he started to move his lips and I thought I'm finally gonna get my answer, if he wants a maid I will be but his treatment didn't fit that of a maid so it must be something else and I have to know it but what came out of his mouth made me forget my question entirely.

"That's strange, you sound nothing like a kid" what he said totally caught me off guard, of course I don't speak or act like a child of my age, if you calculate my age in the past life and here I'm already 35 years old.

If I was a real three year old child, I would just be happy and enjoy everything he gave me without questioning his intentions because my small mindset will not know the word "intention" to begin with.

Did he find out about me, will he think that I'm a witch and burn me at stake or did he already have something for me in store, no matter what, I have to think of an answer to divert his attention from me

"I was raised to be a mature and smart girl" I wrote to him then thought ' mature and smart!! Does a three year old know the meaning of mature to begin with'

My guilty conscience pierced at me and I pouted and averted my gaze from his intense gaze, it was like he was looking right through my soul, I started to sweat in nervousness, when will he stop staring, he is about to pierce a hole through my face.

Silence fell for what felt like an eternity but it was actually just five minutes, in this five minutes it felt like my whole life time and the life before passed right infront of my eyes like a film then the duke finally broke the silence

"I understand" I turned around at his words, it was just two words but I felt like it had a deeper meaning than it sounded

I looked into his eyes and he looked into mine, his gaze was no longer sharp and it became gentle

I nodded my head in confirmation then stared at my hand that returned on top of his once again, his hands which was very big and beautiful was warmer than usual today and my cold little hands held onto his

"I have another question, how did you learn to write and read?" He said so I turned around to face him so instead of my back facing him now my back was facing the door of the study

I told him about how I learned from the people around me and the books and stories in our home and that mom helped alot as well

He listened to me and asked me if it was okay to tell him about my home and life before and so I started telling him about my hometown and the cafe we owned but I couldn't talk about mom, it was still hard and I thought he would ask me about her but he didn't

Unexpectedly he was very understanding.

By the time I finished telling him everything I was very sleepy and because of my weak child body I fell asleep right on top of his chest and he tightened his arms around me as if to protect me from falling

The sound of his breath and heartbeats and the warmth that emanated from his body made me have a good night sleep and I smiled.

The duke stared at the child sleeping peacefully in his arms and his eyes fell on the smile on her face then to her hand which held his, it looked so small and weak but it had so many scars and bruises

The scars and bruises made her hand even more precious in his eyes

Blue and purple eyes and white platinum hair, a mole under her left eye and another one above her lips, white porcelain like skin and red plumb lips and there was a natural red glow in her cheeks, there is no way he wouldn't recognize her, she is alita's daughter with his brother elias

He knew when he found the necklace in the auction that Alita was dead, but now since her child is in this state he was even more sure she is dead

The first day he saw her he couldn't recognize her, she was much thinner than now, her hair was so dirty that you couldn't recognize it's color and you couldn't see her eye color from her tears and after that she was unconscious for ten days

Various doctors came but no one could know what was wrong with her, the duke was so angry that he said no doctor is to leave untill she wakes up or they are all dead in ten days

That meant they have to cure her before ten days

The doctors were desperate to cure the young girl so they can keep their lives but they couldn't do anything and their time was up and on the tenth day they decided to give up, but the lady just like a savior woke up on the tenth day on her own

Later it was concluded that her condition was caused due to a mental shock that was too big for her young mind to take and so it shut down

The child who just woke up was quite lively and cute, she tried many times to sneak out but he always caught her and although she was mature for her age, sometimes she acted just like her age, like when she holds his hands just like right now

He tried to find out about Alita from her but whenever he brought her mother up she starts shivering and crying and goes into shock so he decided to stop asking about her mother and decided to go in a round about way

He asked about her home and that gave him enough information to move with so he gestured for Rin and Rin who was hiding in the shadow all this time came up to him and bowed his head then raised his head again

The attitude of Rin now and when he was talking to the child was entirely different

Rin is known to be cold second only to the duke in power and has been with duke since war, the duke was named the war god but Rin was called with Blue Wolf because of his fierce nature and his blue hair and eyes

"You heard what the child said, you know what to do, find this hometown and bring me all the information about it, and find out how that child got here" the duke said and Rin bowed his head to indicate his acceptance and left immediately to carry out his masters order

The duke returned to staring at the child in his arms and decided to take her to her room but once he tried to put her on her bed she held tightly onto him as if she didn't want to let him go

He sighed in defeat and decided to take her to his room for the night, and this night both the duke and Lilly slept peacefully for the first time in a long time.
