"What's your name ma'am?"
Figuring out that the Silverados didn't really know my surname. It was much easier to continue using it. "Karen Rodirgo, I'm Karen Rodrigo."
She smiled and quickly wrote down my name. "You have a nice name miss. Where have you worked before?"
"Oh gosh, I've really suffered all my life." I faked a tear.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't know that I ...."
I interrupted. "It's fine. I've worked in a bakery before. I got sacked because my manager wanted to have sex with me and I refused."
"Ohh, I'm so sorry."
"It's fine."
She picked up her phone and quickly made a phone call. "Alright, I'll send her to your office sir."
She looked at me with a huge grin on her face. "Third floor, 5th office by the right. His name is Andrew Silverado."
My anger intensified as she mentioned his name. I didn't know if he was one of the men who raped me but I hated everyone from their family. I guess he probably didn't know about it either.
As I stepped into the elevator and pressed a number, a man joined me and also did the same thing. He pressed a number on the button and stiffened up his face. He was dressed up in a simple way but I knew his face looked really familiar. I didn't really see his full face because he was wearing a nose mask. Why do people still use nose masks?
The elevator shuddered to a stop before the lights flickered and finally went off completely, plunging the small space into darkness.
I was scared. What happened? Why did the elevator stop working all of a sudden?
I took a deep breath as my knees buckled beneath me, and cursing out loud, I grabbed the hold of the closest thing I could find – a man's arm.
The man shrieked with fear and pushed me away, I hit my head on the wall, almost unconscious.
I couldn't breathe.
The idea of being in a boxed shaped room with no sunlight and windows made me feel nauseated. And I was also with a stranger. Why was he so annoying?
"Miss, are you okay?" He asked, concerned.
My face was burning at this point as I gasped for air desperately. I tried kicking the door but it wasn't working.
I slumped down on the floor in annoyance, sweating. My clothes stuck to my back as sweat kept coming out of my pores.
I wished it was a dream. I wished I would wake up and be back in my bed, safe and sound.
But it was real.
The lights flickered on and off as he got on his knees to get on an eye level with me. He shook me, trying to pry my eyes open to look at him. "Miss," he called out in a soft voice that also felt familiar. I knew this person but I just couldn't tell who it was.
Regrets started flooding my mind. Why didn't I take the stairs? I should have just taken the stairs if I knew I would be stuck in an elevator with someone I didn't even know..
As soon as the ice water touched my face, I felt a rush of energy and sprung to my feet as the lights came back on but the elevator remained the same, without opening.
"You're so foolish," I screamed at him as I shoved my wet hair out of my face.
He frowned. "Foolish? Is that a way of showing appreciation?" He asked, angrily.
"W-what was that for?!" I screeched.
He sighed. "I only helped you."
"I never asked for your help." I screamed back at him in annoyance.
Shoving my blonde bangs out of my face, I wiped under my eyes hoping I wasn't looking like a mad woman.
"And what if we get stuck in this elevator till tomorrow?" He suddenly asked and I broke into a cold sweat.
"And that's the reason you shouldn't have poured that water on me. What if we wanted to drink water to stay alive?"
He chuckled softly. "I doubt we'll be hungry. Who thinks of food in a situation like this?"
"I just wish there's a way we could get out of here."
I leaned against the wall, watching him open the panel marked 'For Emergency Use'
He pressed the red button with a smirk on his face trying to feel intelligent when I knew he wasn't smart enough. "The elevator just stopped," he said. "Can you fix it immediately?"
After what felt like five seconds, a programmed robot replied. "Thank you for using the elevator."
He slammed the panel shut immediately with anger. A light chuckle escaped my lips as he frowned. "That was useless." I murmured.
He pushed himself off the wall he was leaning on and pushed his hand to my mouth, shutting me up.
I looked up into his blue eyes that were sparkling with annoyance. "Look, I don't want to be stuck with you. You make me remember someone I know in the past." He groaned, making me feel silly.
What did he mean by his statement? Did we really know each other before?
Pushing him, I gasped for breath. "Don't do that again." I warned him.
I also couldn't bear staying in the same elevator with him so I pulled out my phone and tried calling someone who could help us but there was no network. It wasn't even going through.
"I hope you don't mind staying in this elevator with me tonight." He said with a grin.
Returning my phone to my purse, I replied. "I don't have a choice."
"I'm sorry if I've made you angry. I just felt you shouldn't die in this elevator so I woke you up with that cold water." He apologized, shrugging his shoulders, smirking as his blue eyes trailed down to my chest.
"What are you –" I looked down at my chest as well and almost screamed.
How could I forget such an important thing? How could I forget to use my bra?
What if he was a pervert?
"Why are you looking at my breasts, you animal!" I screamed at him, pointing a finger at me.
He removed his nose mask and I was stunned to see James Silverado standing in front of me. The man who was part of the men who raped and left me for dead was right in front of me.
My eyes widened and I covered my mouth so I wouldn't scream out loud.
