Chapter 5 Going For A Run

****Lily's POV****

I woke up from my nap feeling refreshed and almost forgetting about my encounter earlier. Once I remembered, I realized that it actually wasn't that bad. Matt has moved on and so should I. I can't keep wallowing in my sadness. I can't be the girl who's parents died and her boyfriend broke up with. I had to be more than that. "I'm going to go to the ceremony and I'm going to have fun." I said aloud to an empty room. I looked at the clock and realized it was 7:34 pm. "Wow, I really slept for 4 hours." I said aloud again. It's a weird feeling being home alone even though my parents had died a year ago. I still said my thoughts out loud, half expecting someone to hear them and respond. I began to think about my parents, their death, and their funeral. I missed them. It was a Rogue attack on the pack that took them from me. They were on the front lines when I begged them not to go. There were so many losses that day on both sides, my parents just so happened to be two of the casualties. Their funeral was harder than hearing that I had lost them. It could have been a case of mistaken identities on the battlefield or they could have just been missing, to return home when the battle was over. When the words "I'm sorry." came out of Elder Tobais's mouth, I froze. I didn't drop to the floor, I didn't scream, I just stood there in the doorway staring through him. The words "I'm sorry" aren't final but being at their funeral was final. There was no mistaken identities or missing person in the caskets. It was my parents laying there, cold and gone. Matt was there for me for that. The whole pack was. I'm glad that I had family outside of my family when it came to things like that. I tried to switch my direction of thinking and thought, "Maybe Matt is right and we can still be on good terms." I shrugged my shoulders and went to the fridge. I don't know why I even opened the doors to the fridge, I wasn't hungry. "Maybe I'll go for a run." I thought. "Run?!" Azalea howled in my head. "Yes, a run Azalea." I said in my mind to her. I closed the fridge door and went out the back door. I neatly folded my clothes on the back porch and placed my shoes next to the pile. I looked up at the moon and took it all in. The waning gibbous was beautiful tonight. I stood there so long I almost forgot I was standing on the back porch naked so I shifted quickly and let Azalea take over. It had been a few days since I had let her out and she was going crazy inside my head. But she was a patient and respectful wolf, as far as they could be. Azalea shook her pure white fur and made a B-Line for the wood's entrance. Our pack's territory spanned for a good 5 or so miles and she took full advantage of it. "Thank you for letting me out tonight.' Azalea said in my mind. "You're welcome, you deserve it" I replied. I let her run and hunt for about 3 hours before we finally went home. When I got home I was finally hungry enough to eat. I grabbed lunch meat, cheese, and lettuce from the fridge to make a sandwich. Once I was done I brushed my teeth while my day replayed over in my head. "So weird. I was not expecting this today." I said while finishing up in the bathroom. I decided it was time for bed and went to sleep.

I was alone in the woods. It was so silent I couldn't even hear the birds chirping. What time was it? It had to be late at night or early in the morning, I couldn't tell by the position of the moon because it was hidden by the clouds. A breeze swept around me, rustling the leaves in the trees above me. Suddenly I heard a twig snap. I whipped my head around to find the source of the noise. Behind me were a hundred glowing eyes, all red. When they noticed that I noticed them, the growling started. It started low and deep and slowly crescendoed. The growling was echoing in my ears so loud that I had to cover them. I didn't notice that I was screaming until the growling stopped abruptly. One pair of eyes slowly inched out from behind the trees and they began circling me. The moonlight came out without any warning, and so did he. He was a giant gray and brown wolf with a scar going through his right eye. He stopped about 10 yards away from me and that's when we finally made eye contact. Something seemed familiar in his eyes but I couldn't pinpoint what it was. I cocked my head to the side and so he did, almost like he were me in a mirror. I opened my mouth to ask the question "Who are you?" and that's when he lunged towards me, snarling.

I woke up sweating. Ever since my parents died, I would have dreams of being attacked by Rouges. The dreams were just another painful reminder of what had happened. I got up to brush my teeth but heard a noise in the kitchen. I was on high alert as I slowly made my way down the hall to the kitchen careful not to make any noise. As soon as I turned the corner I saw Amelia with an apron on and I could smell smoke coming from the oven. I misstepped and stepped on the floor board that always creaked. Amelia whipped around, surprised and said "Oh shit! I was trying to surprise you!" I cocked my head to the side, what was she surprising me for? "Umm...surprise me for what?" I asked, very confused. "Well it's after midnight so it's your birthday you big dummy! Here's to 18!"
