Chapter 5 A SUPRISE

CHAPTER FIVE

The next day I forced Eric to school, Do you know how I did that?: I lied to him that we were having a test as early as 8 a.m. but to my greatest surprise, he woke up early today, took his bath, and skim his teeth he even woke me from sleep.

I couldn't imagine my eyes seeing Eric with these manifestations first-time Eric develops an interest in school activities.

"Eric why are you so in a hurry won't you have your breakfast?". I asked yawning so loud.

"I don't have an appetite for food I have a test in school today". He said concocting books in his bag as he prepares for school.

" This is as serious as I think".

I said this silently, while I took a nap thinking I have won the battle Eric left to school before me, I could hear mum calling our names from the dining table.

"Eric and Nelly your food is ready".

I ran to the dining table but mum was surprised when she couldn't find Eric.

" Where is Eric"?_ she asked.

"Ohh!! Eric has gone to school I told him to wait for breakfast but he said he has no appetite for food today". I explained.

" Hmmm, And he didn't inform me before leaving".

"I guessed he used the back door". I replied.

" And that shouldn't be an excuse, don't you think something is wrong because I wonder why a foody like him will ignore his food". She mumbled looking worried.

"Mum!!, I know Eric so well if he is worried he will tell me about it, so nothing is wrong with him he is absolutely fine". I said trying to take both foods.

" You have been influenced by Eric you better eat yours and leave his food alone". She said trying to collect the food.

I quickly ran with both plates of food scampering towards my compartment, Mum was speechless as she stood by looking at me.

"I believe you know these are your three square meals for today don't bother asking for more".

I paid deaf ears to her words while I ate both foods to my satisfaction, meanwhile I scanned the time it was 9:30 a.m.

"Oh my God!! I'm late".

I said this running helter-skelter looking for my school bag, thank God I later find it, no one taught me how to run as fast as a cheetah I practically did that which I took to my hill and ran to school.

AT SCHOOL

The whole class was calm as I entered wondering what was going on, I greeted Mr. Henry then I preside to my seat.

lo and behold before I could seat I just heard a voice from the back

" 2 minutes more".

I was surprised when I saw everyone seriously writing. I looked at the board it was a Test.

"Oh my God, I came late!". I said this within my mind. I tried hunting for a script to write my test unfortunately the time was up.

All scripts were collected from everyone as Mr. Henry took the script and presides to his office.

My script was left blank and never submitted, I sat down looking worried.

"I thought you're always punctual May I know your reasons for coming late?". Beauty curiously asked.

I was so tense I couldn't even answer her, but I have no choice but to tell a lie.

" Well I wasn't feeling too well this morning I was contemplating if I would be present in school today due to my state of health and now it has affected me more since my script wasn't submitted". I mumbled confronting my face to the ground.

"Sorry about that, everyone was affected as well because we weren't prepared or even informed about the test".

" Possibly it was a surprise test," I said.

"Yes it was, and we are all surprised".

She mumbled while we busted into laughter, unknown to me she gave suggestions.

" Well, I guess you should worry no more let's visit the cafeteria so we can have some lunch".

"I don't feel like eating anything yet and besides I'm cashless".

" Don't worry about that I will sort the bills". She said.

I was a little bit timid seeing a lady sorting my bills, "Hope she won't use this against me in the future". I silently say this to myself.

We went to the cafeteria to have our lunch, she ordered fried rice and salad with a lap of chicken, together with soft drinks and some Pizza.

Indeed my stomachs start rumbling as I began to salivate but I have to comport myself in other not to be a disgrace in public.

The food was served at our table.

" Make yourself comfortable don't tell me you don't have an appetite". She said while absorbing her food.

I glanced at her and was worried thinking where she got this money because she mostly spends extravagantly I thought of this and I was curious to ask.

"Indeed you do Impress me most times but I always felt like am being ungrateful, to be candid the way you spend your money triggers me to inquire about your parent's wealth". I curiously asked.

" Hmmm...in a nutshell, you want to know what my parent do for a living isn't it?". She asked while she sipped her soft drinks.

"Exactly, and sorry if I'm being too pushy". I grin waiting for an answer.

" Well you aren't, so there is no need for an apology although I barely discussed my family wealth to people I believe they are my privacy but since you asked I will just tell you a little part of it ". She sips more drinks as she explained further.

"My Dad is a businessman he owns a Multi-Company both home and abroad, he barely stays at home due to his business routine he travels a lot we rarely see each other even my mom she is a medical doctor, she owns her hospital this two couples barely stay at home but one thing I love about them is that: they are always there for me when I needed them, they supply all my needs, I'm the only child of my parent and I never stay a day without receiving some money from them". She smiles after her explanation.

I was marveled at her smile.

"You are the daughter of a billionaire I want to be like you when I grow up ". I said.

"Stop the flattering am just a small girl with a big God". She replied laughing out loud.

After our lunch, we went back to the class, my love for her grew more than my expectations but I wasn't bold enough to express my feelings to her.
