"That's what I'm going to do." I walked over to the mirror and started taking off the fake skin slowly. I need to take off my wig too. I can't believe how hard I tried to keep all of these on me without gaining any attention.
"Tada... Your brown hair is back..." August childishly spoke as he threw my wig on the floor. I have been living as Felicity Todd for a year. She helped me a lot, but her life wasn't great. I met her in a bar one night. She drank too much at the time I seated next to her.
"You are getting wasted. How are you even going to reach home?" I started the conversation with boredom.
"Why do you care? You are nobody to me. I have no one in my life. And my ex-fiancé ran away. My vacation got wasted, just like me." She shouted. She was sobbing the next minute. Before I could reply, she took some pills silently.
Sitting next to her is a wrong decision. But it would be unfair to walk away after hearing her situation. I talked with her for half an hour. Everything seems normal until she passed out on the table.
"Oh shit, I can't be the one to take her home. I do not know where she lives." I shook her shoulder, unsure of what to do. But then I felt the urge to see if she was breathing. Killing someone isn't new to me, but seeing someone die in front of me... is the first time.
After some minutes of trying to wake her up, I found out overtaking of the pills killed her. She's fucking dead and there's no going back.
I carried her on my back. It's difficult because she's fat. "Why do you have to die in front of a stranger, Felicity?" I muttered and walked out of the bar.
"Hey, hey stop right there. Did she pass out or something? She hasn't paid me yet. Do you even know her?" The bartender asked, running breathlessly.
"Fuck."
"What?"
"Nothing. Take this whole purse. She's my cousin. I will take her to her home." I told him and threw the purse. Am I rich enough to give the whole purse full of $50 for free? No. But if anyone knows she's dead, the cops will be here at any moment. It's better to take her to my house and execute the plan I had for a very long time. Anyhow, get all of her information. Use her identity and own her phone. Get out of this city and restart my life as Felicity Todd. Is there any better idea than this?
...
"Do I look good?" I asked August, becoming my shelf successfully. Victoria Flynn. It feels good to be back.
"Awesome. Is it being centuries since you are Victoria Flynn or it's just me feeling it?" August asked.
"You have only known me for three years, August. Centuries can't be compared with it?" I told him and grabbed my phone to call my brother. They are my only family left. My dad could never forgive me for what I have done in the past and my mom... she's dead. If there's any way I could bring her back, I would have done it. But no. All I can do is get my revenge on one person who killed my mom.
13 years ago:
My mom is going to be promoted to the company she's working for. Today is a family day union as the 20th anniversary of the company. Me, my dad, my brother, Peter and my sister Jenna is here too.
Dad is taking care of Jenna, who's two years old. My brother and I ate all the snacks items provided at the party. Peter is savouring an ice cream while I got distracted by seeing my mother getting inside the company building alone.
"What is she doing?" I wondered, wanting to follow her.
"Peter, can you stay here for a minute? Don't go anywhere. Do you understand?" I told him, quite afraid of leaving my five-year-old brother.
"Umm... yeah, Vic." He said, licking the ice cream. The next second, I ran up to catch up with my mom. Maybe she got some work, but it's time for her name to be called for the promotion.
I went in, looking cluelessly around the hall. My mom's brown hair flashed in my eyes before she took the stairs. I followed her but was too slow to catch up. Finally, she went into a room and started talking with someone. I took time to catch my breath and listened to their conversation.
"You know you don't deserve this position, Celena. Why don't you just__" I heard a woman's voice inside the room. Through the small gap in the door, I watched them.
"If this is the reason you have called me here, I will be out of here. You never change, Miranda. Always jealous of everyone." My mom snapped. Miranda. She's my mom's best friend. Even I spent a lot of time with her. Why would she talk like a bad person? This is so...
Before I could finish my thought, I heard my mom's scream as Miranda got closer. Why is my mom screaming? I looked clueless, like an idiot, until I spotted a knife in my mom's stomach. I got stuck like a statue. I can't break. I'm feeling something strange in my body. Panic. Shock.
I wanna break in, but how would an eleven-year-old be enough to save my mother? Especially when the Attacker is holding a knife. I ran for my life to find my dad. He's going to help me. I will save my mom.
I spotted my dad with Jenna in his hand and holding Peter in his other hand.
"Dad, mom is..."
"Shut up, Victoria. I gave you one job. Take care of Peter. You just left him like he's not your brother. Haven't you grown up enough to do this simple job?"
"No, dad. I went to..."
"Where? Did you got lost in some shops with bunnies and unicorns? Peter would have walked out on the road if I hadn't found out in time." He shouted. Suddenly, I heard a loud, sobbing voice in the distance. Miranda is running with some blood stains on her dress.
"Everyone... please help me... Someone attacked me and Cel... Celena got stabbed..." she cried.
"What the hell?"
After 2 days, we all attended my mom's funeral. I'm the only person who knows Miranda's the killer. If only my dad had listened to me, we would save my mom. She died running out of time without any help. The police are trying to uncover the murder case. But Miranda is too cunning to not leave any evidence. She's the killer, but in everyone's eyes, she's just another victim who didn't die.
Why would try to kill someone in a huge company? The securities are absent for some minutes and there wasn't any camera in that particular room. But still, there's a chance for Miranda to get caught if a single piece of evidence shows against her. Or maybe I'm enough to break the truth. My dad is grieving and refuses to talk. I don't even wanna say the truth to him anymore if he's not ready to listen. That doesn't mean I will contact the police department. I want her to feel the pain my mom has felt.
Miranda started visiting me and my siblings to make us feel better after what she has done. Even her daughter Regina is hanging out with us. She's the same age as I am and the girl next door. Every time I see her face, I remember her mom.
"I miss my mom so much, Miranda." I hugged her tightly, crying and wetting her clothes. I feel the urge to do something bad to her, but all I'm doing is acting like I know nothing of her crime.
Whenever I'm in the kitchen, I look at the knife like it's a weapon to kill Miranda, not to chop the vegetables.
Finally, I have called her to my room to tell me bedtime stories.
"Victoria, you are too old to hear bedtime stories?"
"I know, but it makes me feel better. After what I have been through, I need this small satisfaction. It reminds me of a time when mom used to tell stories to me." I told, making her feel sympathetic to me. I let a single tear out of my eyes. The tear means both sadness and madness.
"And they lived happily ever after...." She finished telling a story. I didn't listen to it at all. I just acted like I'm asleep.
"Wow. Why did I get myself into this family mess?" she muttered and walked to keep the book on the shelf. You created this mess; Miranda and you are not getting away with it.
I looked at her as she's tapping on her phone facing the wall. I clutched the knife inside my blanket. If I hesitate, I could never do this. It's now or never to end this. I slowly walked up to her without making a noise. She's too distracted by her phone to see me.
I raised my knife. My hands are shaking. I can't go back after deciding to take this risk. This is for my innocent mom. I stabbed her in the back with all the force, using both of my hands.
Miranda turned, facing me with an unbelievable look.
"This is how my mom would have felt when you stabbed her," I told without showing the fear I'm having as I looked at the bloody knife.
"You little bitch... I already suspected that someone ran..." she stopped in the middle as I stabbed her in the heart. I want no more reply. Just revenge. No fear of my future. It's already ruined.
"Go to hell, Miranda," I told her and I heard Peter's scream outside the door.
"What have you done, Victoria?" My dad yelled, closing my brother's eyes.
"I did what I had to. You wouldn't understand." I said, dropping the knife on the floor. I'm feeling nothing. Just nothing. The ambulance and the police came at the same time. I'm glad Miranda couldn't be saved, and I confessed everything about Miranda to the detective. Still, I ended up in Juvie. My dad refused to see me ever again. As years passed by, my siblings understood me.
...
"Babe, you are getting a call." August brought me back to the present as he handed over my phone.
"Hello?"
"Victoria Flynn. It's good to hear your voice. But you won't feel the same, since I'm keeping your little sister as a hostage. Now, tell me. Do you remember how I am?"
"Regina?"
