Chapter 5 My own way

Getting to Singapore didn't take an hour as they were in a private helicopter and needed not to board a plane.Without hesitating Nadine and Dave rush over to the private hospital where her brother is admitted.

"God please don't let this happen, he's my only relative and I won't survive without him."Nadine silently prays as the car pulls up at the driveway of the hospital. Without for Dave, she rushes into the hospital towards her brother's private ward to see the bed empty."No this isn't happening, where is my brother"she screams throwing tantrum only to be restricted by Dave who holds her as she cries out her eyes.

"Miss calm down, your brother is in the operating room and needs to be operated on as soon as possible because he's hemorrhaging internally.Please pull yourself together and sign these papers"Doctor Joachim, the resident doctor incharge of Fred, Nadine's brother says calmly.

"Oww is that so, thanks alot, I was so scared.Please do everything possible to save Fred and I can join you at the ER if you want."

"No Nadine you can't because you're not in the right state of mind for this besides my team and I can handle this perfectly.I will be going in now"he replies before nodding towards Dave who returns it with a smile.

"You think Fred is going to be okay"she asks Dave looking towards the operating room with her hands on her hips.

"Yes he's going to be alright just believe"he responds before enveloping her into a hug as she weeps.

Still waiting on the doctors to finish up the surgery, Nadine and Dave sits outside the ER with her resting on his shoulder.

"I have something to ask you, how did Fred get so hurt that he has been in coma for two months now and why didn't you tell me"he bombards her not ready to get a no for an answer.

"It was an accident,car accident to be precised"she lies which he knew and persists for the truth since he knows when she's lying.

"Actually it happened when I came her to spend a few days with him.When I arrived he was down with fever and couldn't even move a muscle.I was in the kitchen preparing something that could make him feel less feverish, when I heard him struggling with someone and screaming faintly.I rushed out with a knife and saw this guy on mask with a spartula which he had already used on my brother.He stabbed Fred on the guts and tried cutting his throat when I rushed on him.He fled but I succeeded in stabilizing Fred who had gone into cardiac arrest"she narrates teary but composed.

"You're really a brave girl"he mutters before flashing back to his brother.

"I'm sorry I couldn't save you"he thinks to himself before looking up at her.

"I wonder what would have happened to Fred if I weren't around"

'", You're indeed a life saver and I know he would be proud of you.

I couldn't do anything to save my brother back then, so I carry the guilt around, it's painful and I wonder maybe he would have been alive if I tried doing something .I did nothing absolutely nothing to help him.i left him to die,I failed Kaven woefully."he replies with unshed tears in his eyes.

"Life is cruel"

Now quiet with them lost in their own little world, the door to the ER opens with doctor Joachim and other doctors and nurses walking out exhausted but quite cheerful.

The look on their faces makes Nadine to smile knowing fully well the procedure went well.

"Thanks doc"she calls after doctor Joachim who returns it with a smile and a bow before leaving with the rest.

"Fred you did well"she mumbles more to herself with a smile slightly forming by the corner of her lips.

Eager to see Fred who is back to the ward, she rushes in while Dave waits outside for her to have a private moment with her brother.

"Dave I want to thank you for coming with me to see Fred,I appreciate"Nadine says as they leave together to her lunch.

"You're welcome"

"Actually I won't be able to return to California with you so you can go back alone while I stay here to take care of my brother.This way I would make him fight out of coma with my presence and care.

I also have something to do here"she says as they walk into the restaurant at the hospital.

"Don't worry I'll be here with you,your problem is mine too"he responds before giving her a peck which knocks her speechless.

*Two weeks on*

"The police aren't doing anything to stop this serial killer, always telling us he would be brought to book. I want to get revenge for Clive

and the three ladies.I can't let Clive's killer go just like that.Nadine says with all amount of seriousness and determination as they meet together in Dave's office.

"Calm down and don't make a costly mistake. This guy is a psychopath and can harm you. I once thought of of getting revenge on my brother's killer but couldn't because I was a minor then.That hunger for revenge is still there but I can't take a life though I can kill, don't ask me to do so.Take it easy and bring him to book But don't kill."Dave tries talking her out of it but her demeanor shows she has made up her mind.

"When my parents died I was a minor too and vowed never tow let anyone close to me to die in such manner under my nose.Clive died because I wasn't there and enough of this serial killing.My Clive must not die without his death been avenged."she responds already on her feet with her back towards Dave who gives her a bear hug.

"Nadine don't think that way leave everything in the hands of the police for your safety and that of your loved ones.Remember you're a doctor and not a killer."

"I will maim Clive's killer because he designed Clive as if he were a mural or collage.

Today is Clive's funeral and my promise to him is that I will maim his killer and make him live the rest of his life miserably withe his eyes gushing out their socket.

He will pay for the pain and trauma I feel right now. He will beg for death and see hell here on earth."she screams clutching Clive's picture in her bossom, weeping bitterly.

Dave hurt and not knowing how to soothe her, cups her face with his hands and kisses her passionately.She let's him kiss her with tears spilling from the side of her eyes to her cheek."I love your Nadine and didn't want us to have our first kiss in this situation"he thinks before parting his lips from hers.

"Nadine do you have anything to say to Clive before we send him to the life beyond"the priest asks as the body is being lowered to the ground.

"Clive, I'm sorry for not being there for you when you needed it most. I regret this day and wish I can turn back the hands of time.You and Fred were the only I had and every moment we spent together was splendid.Goodbye and memories will always bring back you."she breaks down completely, clutching to Dave for support as the grave is being covered up by the undertakers.

"Seeing Nadine this way made me realize how much Clive meant to her.Her shattered heart would take a long time to heal and I will be here come rain come shine".he thinks to himself as they walk towards the car.

"Nadine you look like a wreck"he chips in scared that she would fall ill.

"This is the last time I'm going to cry in such a manner because Clive asked me not to cry"she responds as he drives off.

"Are we going back to the hospital or home"he asks looking at his side mirror.

"Take me home"

"Okay but I'll be going back to the hospital to get some documents"

"No problem just come home early"she replies before facing the window to prevent him from seeing her tears.

Making sure noone is in sight, Dave enters his office and rushes over to his secret safe rummaging through the evidences he collected over the years.He careful picks up the bottle of anaesthetic administered on the last victim to notice a paper wrapped carefully on the lid.

"How come I never noticed this all these while"he asks himself because carefully unwrapping the paper.

"I know you're reading this now and have waited for you to do so, you're really smart like your brother and inquisitive.Do you think I can't harm Nadine if I want to or maybe kill you.I don't want to ruin my laid out plans and making the movie less interesting.

Just grab a drink and put on your seat belt because the ride would be bumpy. I am closer than you think,I might be your shadow.

I should kill you in front of her or maybe the other way round.See ya"

Dave stares at the letter with alot of things running through his mind and freaks out when Nadine barges in.

He clutches his chest feigning to be in pains so as to make Nadine leave toe get his drugs.

Immediately she leaves,he hides the letter still wondering how the killer knew about Nadine.

She returns with his drugs and water which he takes though not in pains,but to prevent her suspicions.

"Are you alright?"she asks before sitting down staring at him.

"Yes I'm now, thought I dropped you off at home"he says comporting himself perfectly well.

"Yes you did,but I was scared of staying alone.Remember anyone who's left behind in horror movies could drop dead like in Friday the 13th, Hello Sydney"she responds calmly.

"Let's go have some snacks"she chips in already on her feet.

"Nadine you go home now, I will be with you shortly,just have to see detective Park"Dave says before ordering a cab for her.He returns to his office, rewrites the letterie and leaves with the one he wrote.His face shows that he isn't sure of what he's doing but determined to find something in his search.

He drives off thinking of what would happen to Nadine if he doesn't make it alive"I hope this

I am doing isn't wrong and won't hurt anyone. I'm tired of waiting and putting her life in danger.I'm sorry Nadine, but I have to so this for our sake" he thinks before stepping on the accelerator.
