Chapter 4 Trust issues and another death

Detectives from the police headquarters California rush into Logan hotel to room 48 to be precise where a young woman with the name Rain was killed the night before.Nadine and Dave gets called to the scene by detective Park who examined the almost unrecognizable body.

" This way doctors"one of the detectives say as they enter the building.

"Detective Park has been waiting for you but just stepped out"he chips in before leading them to the body which has been covered up to conceal the horrible sight.

Lost in thought and with hands trembling, Nadine slowly uncovers the body and gasps at the disgusting sight.

"Ohh my gosh what's this"she mutters under her breathe to the hearing of Dave who looks away after glancing briefly at the body.

She breaks down into tears as memories of Clive comes rushing back making her shrink in fear and regret."I should have saved you" she mumbles before covering up the body while Dave suddenly clutches his chest in pains.

"Dave are you alright?" she asks with her hand on his shoulder.

"I'm fine" he responds before wincing again but this time louder.

"You're not okay"she chips in before gently guilding him to the car with her eyes full of concern for his well being.

"Thanks"he mutters after taking his pills which she learns is for anxiety and panic attacks.

"You're sick right?"she asks yet again looking at him.

"Like I said before I'm fine just a chest pain"

"Really,just a chest pain.What do you take me for,a dumbass or someone without brains or maybe a pushover.Someone who doesn't have sense of reasoning really.You don't seize to amaze me with your lies and tricks.You think I'm not hurt seeing you this way,not telling anything happening to you.

You want me to trust you but you can't even confide in me.Do you think we can win this case with the way you're acting, am I really nothing to you.Have all the stuffs you've been telling me about trusting you a mere trap to get me.Look I don't have anything to tell you now and listen carefully you can die from whatever it is you're suffering from,I don't bloody care."she barks at him angrily before stomping off in anger and hurt.

"What have I done now, Dave why are you like this,but no I can't tell her" he thinks to himself watching her go.

"She would find out one way or the other definitely"his inner thought chips in making him shrink in guilt.

"Could you please shut the hell up let me think"he screams inwardly at his thoughts.

"I'm quiet, remember I only talk when you're behaving like a shallow minded person."it giggles inside of him.

Nadine sits under a tree to vent out her anger or possibly cry it out.She thinks about how hard to live without Dave if he ever dies from his illness, making her weep more.Detective Park while returning back to the building spots her at a distance and walks towards her,to see her crying.

"Doc did you have a fight with Dave,I saw him looking glum inside the car. All I can say is that you should bear with him and I'm sure he would come around."he says before leaving her to her thoughts.

She gets herself together and walks towards the car ready to be leave for home.

Without saying anything to eachother they remain mumb with Dave throwing glances at her eyes glued on the road.

"I'm sorry Nadine please don't shut me out please"

"Now are you ready to tell me what you're suffering from" she replies without battering an eye.

He grows silent contemplating on what to do to pacify her.

"Fine I don't want to hear it from you ever again and from now onwards let's start keeping secrets,be my guest."she chips in as she drives into the driveway in Dave's mansion.

Later in the night, Nadine hears a mumbling sound like someone struggling with something in Dave's room and consciously walks towards his room with a baton in hand incase of any intruder.

She gently opens the door to see Dave not struggling with anyone but battling to breathe with his hands clutching his chest.His eyes now pale and bulging out of their socket and unshed tears at the rim of his eyes makes her shrink in fear.

A rush of adrelaline prompts her into running to him as he twitches on the bed wincing and wimpering in pains.

She rummages through his stuffs until she finds the pills which she administers to him before gently raising him up alittle inorder to free his airways.

Still twitching and wincing, she hugs him in a reassuring way with tears in her eyes and her hand carassing his hair to calm him down.

"I'm here now,no need to be afraid okay, listen to my voice I'm here"she keeps on mumbling until he stops twitching, but breathing shallowly and weakly.

Few minutes later he becomes aware of his environment and breaks down on her shoulder, crying to his heart content.

"You did well and can I'm here"she mutters before letting go of him as he collects himself.

"Thanks alot Nadine,I appreciate"he says while she nods before leaving for her room with alot in her mind.

Shutting the door after her,she falls at the foot of the bed letting out her tears with her hands on her chest.

"What would have happened to him if I weren't there to help, please God keep Dave safe"

Dave leaves his room for hers and stops at the door.

"Nadine are you still awake, please let me in" he calls out.

"Come in"she says before opening the door for him.

"I've come to say thank you for saving my life,I don't know what could have happened to me if you weren't here.Knowing that you're here lessened the pain and made it bearable for me though I couldn't control my body movements,I was aware of your presence.Thanks alot and about what I'm suffering from it's hmm panic attacks and PTSD."he slowly says with his eyes fixed on her.

"I know that already and I'm a doctor,at first I thought it was seizure or epilepsy, but you weren't foaming from the mouth.Go to bed you need to sleep so as to regain your strength." she replies with a smile before pulling him into an embrace and a peck which leaves him speechless.

Very early in the morning, Nadine wakes up to see her phone beeping with a message.

She slowly reads the message and screams out at the content.

Dave now awake rushes towards her room with the speed of light before banging on the door.

"Nadine let me in,open this door, what is wrong" he calls out but gets no reply from her.He rushes off and returns with the doors spare key and unlocks it to see her sprawled at the foot of the bed weeping profusely with her hands clutching her phone.

"My brother"she mutters under her breathe before rising to her feet as Dave takes the phone from her.

He reads the message and looks at her dumbfounded and surprised.

"You kept this from me Nadine,I can't believe this.We will talk about this later but first let's go to Singapore and save your brother first."he ekes out before leading her out of the room after grabbing his car key which he left with her.
