Chapter 5 MUTUAL ENEMIES

"So rude!" Jace blurted out, ignoring the tug on the hem of his shirt by his mother, probably telling him to keep shut. He wasn't willing to listen to her on this one. He knew just how to take care of ladies like Davina.

Davina shot Jace a sharp gaze.

"He is umm... He is my son... Your father agreed that he could live here with me," Mrs. Darlington's words made Davina shift her gaze from Jace to her.

"Huh!" was what escaped her lips.

"You are Davina Swift... Wow! So much hype on you but you really are super smaller in person."

Davina glared at Jace. He could almost see flames shooting at him from her chocolate brown eyes. Jace almost got lost in them though. Her eyes. They were the most beautiful pair of eyes he had ever seen in his life.

"What do you mean by that?" Davina asked with a raised eyebrow.

Jace smirked. "I don't know, I am just saying, they call you Miss Perfect right? I just don't see what is so perfect about you... It could be that every one of them is blind..."

Mrs. Darlington decided that her son had gone too far and pinched on his bare skin, making him yelp and flinch in pain. Davina bit back her chuckle and smirked instead.

"Mom! That hurts!" Jace complained, rubbing on his arm, which his mother had pinched.

"So do the words you just said to Ma'am Davina... Apologize to her this moment," Mrs Darlington pleaded, her voice came out as a whisper though.

"No mom, I won't apologize to her until she apologizes to you first for calling you by your first name, that is just so disrespectful and totally unacceptable. You are even calling her ma'am Davina yet she calls you by your name!" Jace muttered, his voice was loud.

Mrs. Darlington sighed. "So, that was why her son was so upset? No wonder!" she thought as she turned to him.

"She is my boss," Mrs Darlington explained.

"She is?" Jace voice went a pitch lower as he questioned.

"Well, technically, since I report to her but her father is my actual boss," Mrs Darlington replied.

Davina cleared her throat dramatically and when they both turned to look at her, she waved one hand at them.

"I am right here, you know that right?" were her words.

Jace noticed her dramatic pose. Her nose was held up so high in the air as she stood with hands akimbo. He scoffed. Ladies like Davina were the kind of ladies he hated the most. But he knew just her medicine. It was game on for the both of them...

"Cassie, the cook isn't in, I am hungry," Davina said and even moved one hand to rub on her stomach. Jace shook her head doubtfully at her.

"I am pretty sure the cook prepared a variety of dishes for you to pick from and stashed it in the refrigerator so why don't you just go help yourself," Jace challenged. He knew he had to be right considering the little things his mother had told him over the phone about how she ran the household.

Davina scoffed. "And I am supposed to do what, eat it cold?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Well, you could. Or you could use the microwave but of course you don't even know how to use it do you," Jace said and watched Davina turn red, literally. Jace nearly burst out laughing in amusement. He couldn't help but notice how cute her angry face was especially her pouting lips.

"Shut the f**k up! Cassie control your son!" Davina yelled.

"And she has anger issues too! See, so not Perfect, maybe I should stream this. Your fans would be so, well, awed..." Jace ended with a light chuckle.

"Stop it Jace! Go into that building over there, it is where I reside, where we will both be residing now, go get settled there, I will join you shortly," Mrs Darlington's muttered, her tone was warning. She pointed at the building she was referring to as she spoke. It was a one storey building.

"Sure... See you around Miss Perfect," Jace muttered and started for the direction his mother had pointed to him.

"Hey! You! Who the hell do you think you are! Hey!" Davina shouted after him but he didn't even budge... He kept going and left her to watch his back in frustration.

"You have a very rude son!" Davina turned to Mrs Darlington.

"He only gave you a taste of your own medicine," Mrs Darlington wanted to say but she didn't. She couldn't. She didn't say anything. She just kept a neutral expression.

"I really do not think I want him here I have to talk to my dad..." Davina went on.

"He mentioned a life stream, what if he does that and sabotage my career... And he is a full blooded man and I am an attractive young lady, a very attractive one at that... What if..."

Ordinarily, hearing her words, Mrs Darlington was supposed to be scared, after all Davina had the authority to make her father change his mind and her son wouldn't live with her anymore, but she wasn't scared. Not even in the slightest.

Her mind was already made up anyway. If her son couldn't live here with her, she couldn't continue working with the Swifts. It was as simple as that.

She had first signed a one year contract as a housekeeper and her one year was already up. She was yet to officially renew the contract too. but Mr Swift still wanted her to continue working for them, stating that she had been the best housekeeper they had ever had. The longest too. Her runner-up had not even lasted three months, or so she heard.

So, she had agreed to a contract renewal but had given the condition that her son had to live with her when he returned to the country and he had.

So, Mrs Darlington knew that there was only little Davina could do but who knows...

"Come on, I will serve you dinner in a jiffy," Mrs Darlington said and started to lead the way into the main house.

Davina followed her but she paused to look at the building Jace had just disappeared into.

"The guts of that jerk!" she mumbled under her breath, and then continued to follow the housekeeper.
